What's it like in May

Our next trip will have to be mid May. All of our other trips have been between Thanksgiving and Christmas. We are very spoiled as far as crowds and weather go. In May are we going to have to wait and hour to get on a ride and is it going to be 90 degrees every day? Aside from those concerns, I am excited to see WDW at a different time of year. We love all the holiday festivities. What's it like in May, do they have anything special going on? Tell me everything, the good and the bad!
Thanks

What time in May are you going? I think the crowds in May are completely dependent on when you are heading to the parks.

We went the 2nd week of May this past year. While the crowds were a bit larger than I expected, they weren't bad at all. We never waited more than 20 minutes for a ride. Even walked on Tower of Terror once without a fast pass. Soarin was the only thing that you really needed a Fast Pass for. The weather was really nice for us. Warm enough to swim, but not swealtering. It only rained once, and that lasted just a bit under an hour.

We were there over Mother's Day (Mother's Day was our 2nd day there and we stayed a week). We did not think it was crowded at all. We did do a fair amount of planning using the UG to try to avoid crowds and we really didn't wait any longer than 15 min. for any ride. I have to qualify this to say that we had our DS2 with us and I was pregnant so we did avoid some of the bigger attractions (rollercoasters and such). The weather was really great - high 70s and low 80s almost every day. We did have one day of rain (which rendered AK almost empty and we could walk onto any ride and into any show) and our last day was really hot. The only big crowds we encountered were on that last day at MGM for Star Wars weekend, but we actually got a great spot for the Star Wars parade and easily got into the Star Wars attractions. We really enjoyed this as we are big SW fans. Epcot also had the flower show at this time. We went to Epcot on Mother's Day and they gave all the mothers a flower as they entered the park. They had big topiaries of characters throughout the park and there was a walk-through butterfly experience. It was a really good time to go to WDW!

As you can see, I've been in May a few times. . . we have always had good luck with crowds. This year in Feb. was much busier than when we have been in May. If you go later in the month though, say the week before Memorial Day, it gets busier. My Mom, Sis, and I did that and by the Friday before the crowds were picking up. . . we were at Universal and there were LOTS of bus-loads of Jr. high age kids on end-of-year field trips, and they had a tendency to be rude and annoying. . . lots of running and hollering etc. . .

We have pretty much always been able to enjoy minimal wait times on most rides and take advantage of FP on the rest (Splash for example.)

It can be pretty hot in May. Don't forget to drink lots of water and wear sunscreen. Also be prepared for it to be chilly sometimes at night. . . .late at night at something like Fantasmic with all that water mist can be a little chilly in May, so you just have to watch the weather.

The beginning of May is great. it is humud, but the crowds are VERY easy to manage. Later in the month, the crowds thicken as families go on sunner vacation and the humidy gets worse.

we went the first part of May. Glad I brought my jeans. the nights were a bit chilly. we also had to buy windbreakers at the parks. as far as crowds, it was very manageable. we really enjoyed the garden show at EPCOT. we usually go in November and do the Food and Wine. I think we enjoyed the garden show better.

We went the beginning of May this year (4th - 7th) and it was warmer than I thought it would be, but I didn't think it was humid at all. That's the big difference! It's not the heat, it's the humidty that'll get ya! The nights cooled right down to a very comfortable temp, no sweat shirts or jackets required. Not for us anyway. I guess it's all relative. What's warm to me might be cool to someone else.

We're returning around the same dates next year!

I prefer the Flower and Garden Festival over the Food and Wine. I think it's a prettier time to go with everything in bloom.

Thanks! I feel much better about going in May now. I forgot all about the Flower and Garden Festival! Now I'm getting excited, not too excited though because it's sooooo far away. As you can see below, I have to graduate college first. Can't afford WDW while I'm paying college tuition on top of my mortgage and car paymets and everything else :sad2:
Planning is giving me something fun to do though and a trip to WDW puts another light at the end of the tunnel for me!

We're going for Mother's Day this year. I'm hoping it's warm enough for the Water Parks (I need at least 80-85 for that) Our April 2005 trip had a few days that were Water Park worthy, so I'm crossing my fingers for May to be likewise.

A lot more hot and crowded than January, but less so than August. Pretty much what you'd figure. :)
