What's it like in April?

Hello all you lovely people!

So, my mom and I are planning to go to Disney World in April next year for my 30th birthday. I haven't been in April since I went for my 7th birthday in 1996, so needless to say, I don't really remember what it was like. I have visited since then many other times at different dates, the most recent being October 2017.

Are there any events going on at this time? I'd like to avoid any events if possible.

How is the weather in general? It gets rainy in April up here in Canada, but I have no clue what it's like in Florida at this time.

And, of course, how are the crowds? This one isn't really a major issue as it's just the two of us going, but I'd like to get a general idea.

My birthday is on the 29th, so we'd be going around then, so it's likely our trip will run into the beginning of May. We're also planning to tack a cruise onto the end of our trip.

Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!

I was there April 24 to 29 this year, wasn't bad. Low to mid 80's, a little rain. I didn't think crowds were bad, used fastpass effectively.

Flower and Garden Festival usually is going at the end of April/ beginning of May.

In general the weather warm but not hot. It can get cool. It rains but not incessantly.

Crowds are medium to light.

End of April/Early May has been one of the most recommended times to go. Flower and Garden is happening at Epcot, but that's a reason to go then, not something to avoid. Weather is usually very nice (they've been having abnormal amounts of rain recently, but that doesn;t mean anything for next year)

The date Easter falls is something to watch for in April, but it shouldn't effect you going that late.

Thanks! That's really helpful :)

I've been to Epcot during the Food and Wine festival, and it was neat. I didn't really participate in it, but it was interesting to see.

Last week of April is our school vacation week every year and we've gone during that time frame. We've found crowds to be moderate as I think we're one of the few school systems on vacation that week. Weather tends to be warm, but not too humid.

I was worried about Easter, but I don't think it'll be a problem. It's on the 21st next year, so we should miss it altogether. Thanks for the responses everyone! :)

We were just there April 30th- May 9th. Crowds were very manageable and weather was great, we lucked out and didn't see a single drop of rain. It was pretty warm on certain days but by the time it started to really seem "too hot" it would start cooling down again for the evening. We are already planning a trip for the same time next year!

Thanks Shelby! Thats sounds great! It really does sound like a good time to go. I can't wait to start planning!

The only special event going on at that time would be flower and garden at epcot -- you definitly do not want to avoid this. It is amazing all the flowers and topiaries. Plus they have different food booths all around to sample different foods. we went this year 4/14-4/21 - I will say that I think Epcot brings in local crowds on the weekends so when planning just put your Epcot day during the week. We went on a Saturday and a Thursday and the Thursday was much less crowded. If there happens to be a band playing that you want to see at the garden rocks series then you can book a garden rocks dining package which will get you a seat in the concert venue (which is near the america pavilion.

We had amazing weather -- it was usually 80's during the day and low humidity. We really only had an occasional rain shower which didn't impact our time there.

And, of course, how are the crowds?
The crowds around the time you plan to go should be very managable. The only weeks in April that are crazy are the on leading up to and the one right after Easter. You really are picking the perfect time to go -- wonderful weather, it is when most kids are in school, it will be after all the school spring breaks and away from Easter.

My birthday is the 28 of April and I have gone for a week for my birthday every year for 4 years the weather can be anything fro nice and way to hot ( and I am a Floridian ) and there can be the afternoon shower. It can be crowded with cheer leaders and other groups there but nothing like NYE Christmas’s day. And with Easter latter next year it might be a little more crowded

We love end of April through the beginning of May! We just had our wedding in Disney on April 28th. I don't remember a cloud in the sky any of the seven days we were there. It was warm, but not unbearably humid. Epcot did seem pretty busy on Saturday and Sunday, but we love Flower and Garden. I kind of like it better than Food and Wind because it's less crowded and the flowers are gorgeous!

I think this is going to be our time frame as well, also traveling from Canada :)

Hello, fellow Canadian!

Again, thanks everyone for the info! It looks like I picked a good time to visit. I've been to Food and Wine and didn't really care for it, but Flower and Garden sounds really nice. I'm really excited!

We just got back from our trip April 28 - May 5. It was our best trip yet!

Low crowds and gorgeous weather. Not a drop of rain, highs in the mid-80's, humidity was low. (I like it warmer. Our lowest-crowd trip was late January 2014... but it was too cold for me.)

Our most crowded day was May 4th at Animal Kingdom. We saw a TON of Summit cheerleaders that day. I don't know how much they contributed to the crowding but they were *everywhere*.

Flower & Garden was lovely. It really enhanced our two days at Epcot.

I would return this time of year anytime. I do wonder how/if that week would be affected by Easter being so late next year.

Thanks for the info! It sounds like you had a wonderful time.

We could always push it so that we arrive really close to my birthday and celebrate near the beginning to beat the Easter crowds. Crowds aren't really a huge concern as there's just the two of us. And I forgot to mention that Mom doesn't do thrill rides, so for those that have single rider, I'm pretty much golden. I got on EE last time in about 15 minutes. We also aren't much for sit down meals, so that won't be an issue either.

We made a lot of use out of single rider. Our son is 14 so we don’t mind riding separately. Standby wait for RnRC on our HS day was 20-35 minutes all afternoon.... my son rode 8 times in a row using single rider. Lol. We always have good luck with EE single rider too.

We went April 11-20 this year specifically for F&G and we couldn't have asked for better weather. It is our favorite month to go. We had one rainy stormy evening, but other than that the temps and weather was good.

The main thing we avoid is week before/week after Easter - seems those are the most crowded with spring breaks. Haven't looked when that is for next year.

Otherwise, have fun!! :)

Easter is late this year. A lot of NY schools will have Spring Break the week of April 22-26.

I’m close in age to you. My dad and I went for a long weekend this April. The weather and crowds were so nice, my non-Disney loving dad got converted and is now asking to go back! It was warm, but low humidity and crowds were moderate. Flower and Garden Festival was great!
