What's it like at the end of August?

We are thinking of going the last 10 days of August, I know hot, hot, hot but what about crowds, my kids don't go back to school till Sept 6 (we are from the east coast of Canada, bordering on Maine). I'm not so sure about the heat but this way the kids (3 boys, age 12 and twins that will be 9 at that time) won't have to miss any school, also gives me more time to save LOL!

We have gone the last week of August and the third week of August. The very last week I felt was a little less crowded then the third week. But it is VERY HOT!!! The wait time is usually about 20 - 25 mins. The only ride we never go near because of the long line is Indy Speedway. We will be there again the last week of August of this year. If you go I hope you have a great time!!!!

I went at the end of August in 1998 so it's been awhile but I don't remember the crowds being bad at all - however it's not the heat even that gets to me at that time of year, it's the humidity! It's pretty bad. I went at the beginning of August last year and to me it seemed like the crowds were moderate to heavy, still hot and humid. I thought the crowds were heavier at the beginning of August than at the end. Just something to consider, the end of August and September is prime hurricaine season also :(

Good luck with whatever you decide.

We would always go the last week in august while our son was in school like in 98, 99 2000 and the crowds weren't bad at all we didn't think.

We went the 3rd week of August in 2003 with my sons who were 5 yrs old and 20 months old at the time. The crowds were manageable (you still need to plan for waits - I highly recommend Tour Guide Mike - http://www.tourguidemike.com). However it was very very very VERY rainy - sometimes would rain in the afternoon and not stop - with the thunderstorms the pools were closed for the whole afternoon and evening. We had to rearrange our schedule so that we could swim in the a.m. sometimes cause the kids were so disappointed about not being able to swim.

It was an especially rainy spring and summer that year though - but do keep in mind the regular occurance of afternoon showers and storms. I would go back that time of year again however - no question.

Have fun!

We have gone for the last 2 weeks in August twice (Aug 16 - Sept 1) and it has been great crowd wise.. but as you know hotter than Hades.

It also thunderstorms every afternoon... usually around 2-3pm then it clears up pretty fast again. The rain cools it down a tad for the evening.. like from 110degrees to a chilly 95 :D
