What's in YOUR Owner's Locker?

Hi,

We were lucky enough to win an Owner's Locker and a years rental this past Feb. at a DVC Welcome Home Wednesday. Now we are in the process of making a list of what to bring down. We are usually in a studio, although next Feb. we'll have a 2br when we bring our DD, her DH and our two granddaughters.

So what are some "can't live without" things in your locker?

Thanks.

I have laundry detergent, shower gel, tylenol / excedrin, a small blender, a first aid kit, slippers and a few other things in ours. Things that I don't want to have to pack every time we head to our "other" home :goodvibes

Oh my - what DON'T I have stored in ours? I keep an inventory list broken into types of items & who uses them. (DS doesn't shave yet so he doesn't have razors or shave gel. DH doesn't have any hair so he doesn't have shampoo :rotfl2: etc.) I also keep track of exp. dates & note them on the list when I'm packing up to come home so I know what I need to replace on the next trip. If it doesn't have an exp. date I just check it off on the list if the supply looks adequate. Sometimes I just put an item count when I think I should replenish (ie 8 Q-tips or 6 Immodium etc.). We also just use studios so I have a few items like sharp knives & paper plates... (I also take a lot of care when packing things up that may have been used in / around water to make sure stuff is dried good so it doesn't get funky sitting all that time inbetween uses.)

We just closed on our first DVC contract and I've read so much about Owner's Locker that I knew it would be perfect for us. We plan to ship a big box of Owner's Locker-bound stuff to AKV when we go in October. Here's the list so far:

I just signed up for OL, having just purchased my first DVC contract at BLT. I plan to stock the OL with, among other things:

Shower head with the water saver removed; I like a strong shower. And a small pair of pliers.

Also, pins for trading so I don't have to take them back and forth every trip. I take the "keepers" home with me.

Clear2o Water Filter Pitcher

Collapsible and refillable water bottles

Swimsuit(s), pool flip-flops

T-shirts I'd only be caught wearing at WDW

Suction-cup shaving mirror for the shower, and disposable razors

Extra pair of walking/tennis shoes that stay in the locker when I leave

Toiletries: brush, contact lens solution/case, dental floss, toothbrush, toothpaste, Dove body wash (doubles as shaving cream in the shower)

3-in-1 laundry sheets

White socks and underwear that I don't have to cart back and forth; put away clean for the next trip

Rain ponchos, portable umbrellas

:) DH keeps 100 Aliens from Toy Story in his as well as his Blanket of Power--long story. The Aliens are the first thing out of the box and he lines the dresser under the TV in our studio. Yes, he bought 4 bags of 25. Yes, DH is strange. :sad2: But I do love him

I keep toiletries, decorations, my MIL's fav mug for hot chocolate when she joins us and kitchen utensils.

Kitchen stuff
Jack Daniels

BWAHAHAHA! Love it!

Can I get some info on these lockers? We just bought in Feb and our 1st trip will be for Christmas. Love the idea of not needing to bring things all the time but wonder if it is worth the cost?

BWAHAHAHA! Love it!

It was the easiest way to convince DBF we needed an Owner's Locker. "Honey, wouldn't you love to be able to make Jack and Cokes to take down to the pool each day?" Worked like a charm. :thumbsup2

Here's the Owner's Locker Web site: http://www.ownerslocker.com/

Just to give you an idea of how it works, this is from Owner's Locker Web site:
How much does it cost? There is a one time Membership Fee to join Owner's Locker of $75.00 (which includes your Locker and your initial delivery/pickup which we call a Visit) and a yearly storage/delivery plan which you choose. The Standard Annual Plan costs $99.00 per year and includes storage in our climate controlled warehouse and one free Visit per year. Additional Visits are $25.00 each. The Premium Annual Plan costs $179.00 per year and includes storage in our climate controlled warehouse and unlimited visits per year.

Not coming right away? Not a problem. You can sign up now and you won't be charged the one time Membership Fee until 30 days before your first Visit. Your yearly storage/delivery plan is not charged until your Locker comes back into the warehouse filled for the first time. This date then becomes your Anniversary Date for your yearly storage/delivery plan.

If you're a DVC member, they offer a discount on the mebership fee. You can get there through a link of the DVC member Web site. Hope tis helps. :goodvibes

Thanks a lot! I was poking around on the DVC site but I must be blind!:3dglasses

So you have to go pick it up? From where? We won't likely have a car as we fly in and make Disney cart our booties around  Is it heavy? Like how would I carry this thing? Nana won't be of much help with something like that :rotfl:

No, no, no. They bring the bin to you and pick it up at the end of your trip. The only thing you have to figure out is how to get the stuff you want to put in it.

We're putting our locker together during our October trip. Our original plan was to rent a car that week. But when we were going over our plans this afternoon, we realized we were spending almost every evening at the Food and Wine Festival, which means driving may be out of the question. So we decided we'll ship a big box to the resort with much of the stuff we want to put in the locker and the shipping will be MUCH less than a week's worth of a rental car.

We keep:
Toiletries
laundry soap
12 oz size coffee mugs
8 cup Pyrex glass measure( great for cooking in microwave)
spatula
pitcher
large 16 Oz plastic cups
metal forks spoons knives- I hate trying to eat with plastic
Plates and bowls
first aide stuff
ponchos
If we leave clothing we keep them in one of the travel bags that squeezes the air out.
If the time between trips is less than 3 months we will have:
small lap top
Oat meal new sealed container
raisins
canned fruit/veggies
popcorn

We love our owners locker. and if you go on a cruise out of Port Canaveral they will deliver there too!

wow guys this sounds really great! I totally agree. Knowing I don't need to go pick it up and tote it myself is even better AHAHAHA. AND I really like the shipping a big box down idea. Was thinking of that anyways as we will make our next trip in Dec (we already had a June vacay set up before I bought into DVC) and I'll need to send down some Christmas pressies, why not send the locker stuff, too, right!

So I get this right (oh and I FINALLY found the link from the DVC page, thanks!) when trying to decide between the 2 plans ($99 a year and $179) since you get 1 free visit a year with the $99, then you would have to visit 4 or more times a year to Disney to make the $179 make sense, right (I'm thinking 3 visits would be $75 extra). Is a visit equal to pick up AND drop off or each trip to the locker to either pick up or drop off constitute a visit?? Oh boy oh boy!:headache: I'm so glad I'm not the first person to go through all of this! I'm so thankful to you guys who have been through all of this already to help me out :teacher:

Yes, you would need like 5 visits a year for the multiple visit plan to make sense. A "visit" is a round trip drop-off & pick-up for your locker. The year we signed up they were offering a special deal with 2 free extra visits for the first year or something so we had 3 trips that year for our $99. Then last year we didn't get to go down AT ALL for our $99. (sniff sniff:sad1:) Our renewal date is in May so THIS YEAR we're going down in 10 days which will be covered by our $99 from last May. Then we're going again in August and our May renewal this year will cover that one. We MAY plan another trip for next spring break (remains to be seen at this point) so if we do then we'll have to pay the extra $25 for that visit.

Annie, you're better at this than I am...I'm just saying...

:rotfl2: Hi John!! Gotcha! :thumbsup2

Never thought to get one...are they worth it?
WE think so!! :goodvibes DH LOVES that we don't look like a homeless family schelping through the airports with 2 or 3 bags each. Traveling in carry-on only or with only maybe 1 shared checked bag is AWESOME!! He was sold on our first trip. We sometimes fly on Jet Blue or SW with offers free checked bags but sometimes we fly on Air Tran or maybe United where you have to pay for every bag. Having so much stuff already there waiting for us cuts down dramatically on the checked luggage. When we first got our box I shipped a large box (similar in size to the locker) via UPS. It weighed 45 Lbs.!! That's pretty close to the weight limit of one checked bag. That is a LOT OF STUFF.

If you go back and read thru some of the lists on the first page of this thread you will see just how handy they can be. Take my list in Post # 3 (for example) - we have about 120 things on it. That is 120 things that I really don't have to think about packing when we go to Disney. I just have to glance over my inventory list to scan for items that may be running low or that may be expiring and bring a handful of replacements. I REALLLLY miss it whenever we go someplace else and I have to pack ALL OF THIS STUFF. Like 2 summers ago we went to HHI and I had to bring a little dab of everything. Thankfully we were driving so we had room but I really missed our box. When we went to Europe last summer I had many luggage restrictions and I had to bring a little bit of everything. It was a royal pain.

I know a lot of people leave clothes in theirs but I don't do that because I don't like to do laundry on vacation nor do I want that to have to be my primary focus on our last night. I can just do it at home. But that's something else to consider if you go very often. Just leave your Disney clothes there. I've even heard of people leaving items like crock pots & George Foreman grills in theirs. If you're inclined to cook in your villa you can leave all kinds of stuff - spices & special cookware etc. Again, I don't like to cook in the villa anything besides breakfasts but I could see if we were a larger family on a budget that eating in would definitely be the cheaper way to go and heck yes a small crockpot would be really handy. :thumbsup2

Make a list of what you wish you had there every trip but that's too bulky or fragile to pack every trip and get creative!! Candles...wine glasses...your own pillow that you love...a Magic Bullet for making drinks...a griddle for pancakes...extra walking shoes...a tripod for your DSLR...

We also travel with carry-on cases only. Our OL has in it:
shampoo
conditioner
cosmetics
curling iron
hair spray
jack knife (so DH doesn't lose another one at the airport)
scissors
nail care kit
jewelry cleaner
cereal bowls
coffee grinder
griddle
pancake turner
spray olive oil
Sometimes sugar, oatmeal and coffee (unless we aren't returning for a long time)
bottle of wine
salt & pepper
spices
laundry detergent
sun screen
walking shoes for each of us
sandals for each of us
rain wear
long sleeved shirts and tights for those cold trips
DVC windbreakers
hats
night clothes and robes
gloves

Each trip we edit a few things out and place a few new things in there. We always save that griddle for last, because it helps hold the rest of the stuff in there! Our locker is appropriately named "Over-Stuffed".

A quick suggestion for those of you who are in the "thinking about OL stage". When you put together that first box to ship down, make sure you look for one of similar dimensions to the OL. We did that the first time, and were very grateful we did, because the OL box has little nooks and crannies in it that make it a little different to pack than just a straight rectangular box. We love the little small parts tray and manage to utilize those little crannies for small things like gloves etc.
