Well maybe I'll be the only one to post, but last trip in 2007 loved Boatwright's had a wonderful steak... big thumbs down to Sci Fi maybe it's good with just adults but with kids the whole thing bit the big one from start to finish I could wait to get outta there!
California Grill is my favorite and I was just there a week ago. The food is amazing!
I think I depends on how old or mellow your kids are, the restaurant has an adult-contemporary-classy atmosphere with a dress code. I did see a lot of kids (around 7+ y/o) in there last time. I don't know any info about the kids menu and I'm sure someone else will be a better help with that.
While I would call it an adult atmosphere if your kids don't mind being calm and can "dress up" a bit they will definitely love the view of the fireworks from the balcony.I went as a kid (7-ish?) and loved it, but I was already ordering off the adult menu.
You should know if you decide to go, make reservations WAY in advance and if you don't cancel 2 days prior to your reservation they charge $20 per person.
Thanks for the info on Cali Grill I looked it up and they do have a kids menu just trying to decide if I want to spend the $$$ but if I do, will definitely do it during the fireworks!

Even as someone who isn't loaded with cash, I say the California Grill is SO worth it. As my mom said last trip "That may have been the best food I have had in my life, seriously" and I'm not much of a fish fan, but that restaurant could easily make me one. I'm pretty sure that's their specialty. During the fireworks is a must! They pipe the sound/speech/music from the fireworks show onto the balcony.
Also the more I think about it, last time I was there my reservations where at 8:50 and that could explain why there weren't many young kids. They probably are there earlier in the night.
I don't have a "yuck" restaurant from Disney but I have a lot of yums, kid-friendlys and good firework viewing ones. I'll make a separate reply for that.
I agree on Hollywood & Vine so loud and gross my kids hated it and obviously my DH was less than thrilled! I've got to try Yak & Yeti I've heard good things!
