What's great about DVC?? The anti whining and free dining thread

With all the complaining about the poor quality of Disney food, some are complaining about not getting that same poor quality food for free??? I say we buy up lots of Ramen noodles for everyone and leave them in the villas for the next guests. Who's up for a ramen noodle share???

What I like is we bought our first 175 points for about $50 a point. We sold 175 points of later contracts (had five, still have three) for more than we paid for them. And we still have enough points for a real nice vacation every year.

I love the fact I can stay at a place I wouldn't have been able to afford prior to DVC!!!!

I love the fact that my family will be able to go on a cruise using points!!!!

I love that fact that we will be able to trade out and go other places for a $95.00 charge!!! (Other may see it as a waste, but I don't)

In a studio, you need to get the mac&cheese that comes in the little cups. Just add water, stir, microwave, add flavor packet, stir, and eat.

What's so great about DVC? Flexibility! You can buy through Disney or resale, get a few points or hundreds, stay in Hilton Head or the Boardwalk, have one contract or lots of add ons, etc. We just passed ROFR today on our first contract. It's just 50 points, so DH had asked me when we were considering an offer, "Can we even take a 50-pt vacation?" I typed up a bunch of options of what we could do with 50. Another testament to its flexibility. Not that where we can stay on 50 will matter, we're looking to add on in a few months.

If it weren't for my DVC membership, we wouldn't be able to travel to Disney as often as I plan to. I never thought we could go to Disney without visiting parks and also eat all meals in the room, thereby GREATLY reducing our expenses.

I am excited that I can give my son a "vacation home" -- I NEVER thought I would ever be able to afford one. My beach house dreams were shattered long go. So now we can visit BCV on one of these trips and get that beach vacation.

I am very excited about our first trip to Kidani home and can't wait to see the look on my son's face when he sees a giraffe just outside of our balcony.

Where to begin?

We paid rack rate years ago for our honeymoon at BWV. We wanted to join way back then but didn't have the money. In 2007 on our trip to POR I said noway...this room is way too small for all of us...I want more space..two bathrooms..a washer/dryer....etc!

So now we are proud owners at AKV! We are checking into a dedicated two bedroom at SSR in 11 days! Our incentives included developer points which is what we are using to stay at SSR!!! Can we say FREE???? We banked our first AKV points so this Dec. 1 st we have 320 points to use!! woo hoo In May we are bringing my best friend and her children to AKV and putting them up in a one bedroom!

I love being a member!

Especially during busier times at WDW (even more so during FD!), it's nice to come back to your villa, open a jar of sauce, boil some pasta, toast some texas toast and have a nice, quiet meal with the kids. Our kids are young so eating out isn't as enjoyable as it could be. Plus, we save a little money and head out to Goofy's Candy Shop for dessert!

I know most don't like to cook on vacation but I don't mind it once or twice during a trip. I get a little satisfaction knowing I've saved money. Part of my sell to DH was the kitchen and saving on eating out.

The washer and dryer is a huge plus!!

king size beds,
large bathrooms,
a place to sit and watch TV on a couch,
quiet rooms at SSR,
beautiful landscaping at each resort,
Welcome Home,
kitchens that I don't cook in,
and some of the best staff Disney has.

We are brining our friends/neighbors who are first-timers next year. The plan is abou 11 nights which will mostly be in the Treehouses, AKV savana, and BWV. all one and two bedrooms. This type of vacation would have been far beyond our means, especially TWO units. Yeah for DVC!!!

Things that we could not do before our DVC:

1. Visit Disney every year.. and now.. several times a year.
2. Bring family with us to experience the magic.
3. Plan, Plan, Plan.. 'cause we know we're always coming back!!!!


Next Trip: First Family Christmas in Disney.. December 2009!!!!

Coming Summer 2010.. Bringing my brother and his family to play with us at the THV!!!

For us:

We now stay in accomodations we would never pay the cash price tag for.

We are guaranteed a vacation at least one time every year, whether it is at the parks or we trade out for something else. THis is important to me as my kids will only be kids for so long.

The constant planning reminds me of why I go to work every day without complaining.

We are thrilled with DVC!

We are bringing in-laws in December to see the Christmas festivities and since they will be using our points, we will be taking advantage of free dining in September. It works out great for us.
