What's going on at WDW the weekend of Feb 24th that TouringPlans has the crowd levels at 9 and the MK is open later? I know Spring Break will be coming up but the next Friday, March 3rd, has levels of only 6 and the park closes earlier.

President's Weekend is the weekend before and I would have thought more people would be out in March rather than February. Any ideas?? We're thinking of going one of those weekends and just wondering what's up??
Cheerleaders? Some special event not listed?

That week - Feb 18-26 is President's week. Schools are out in a lot of places across the US. We will be coming from CA. Originally thought it would be quiet also. Boy was I wrong. Gonna come anyway.

Oh, that makes sense. I didn't realize some schools were out a whole week for President's Day. Our schools are only out that Monday, not the whole week. Thanks. Have a great trip!

Here in Louisiana, we are out of school for Mardi Gras that week. So are many other Gulf Coast schools. I know this past Mardi Gras, we felt like the entire state came with us to WDW! This year will be arriving on March 3rd and staying through the 13th (we are going for the cheerleading competition). I hope we be there before the biggest Spring Break crowds arrive. :cheer2: :cheer2:

Last year we went to WDW 2/26 to 3/1. The crowds were not too bad. It was winter break for us in NH but Mardi Gras was a different week. We did miss President's Day weekend though. This year we are going 2/25 to 3/4 so I am hoping the crowds are manageable too but we are going either way just to see some sunshine :sunny: and Mickey ::MickeyMo

Up "north," most schools give a whole week...we NEED a break from the cold & snow! It's been like that for as far as I can remember. (Thankfully!)

In Vermont they have a week and a half off. It has been that way for years. When my kids were kids we planned all our WDW trips for that week. It is called the mid-winter break. It gave the perfect amount of time for a trip, if we were driving down or flying. The weather was warm, (comparitively), and sunny. Back home it would be -20 Degrees F., windy and snowy. It was what WDW was created for...to thaw us out.

Thanks for all your help! When do you get out for Spring Break if you've got a week off in February?

Here in NH, the week we are going is the week of our winter break. Last day of school is Friday 2/24. We are leaving for WDW on Saturday 2/25. Other New England states might be different though. Mass students usually have a different week off than our kids in NH.

My DS's school gets out April 13-21 for spring vacation.

It is also Race Week in Daytona, and many NASCAR fans combine a trip to the "holy land" with a trip to WDW. The popularity of NASCAR is a big reason why President's Week is so much more crowded now than it once was.

Have they changed the practice of Mardi Gras school closings actually being ON Mardi Gras? Growing up in S. Louisiana, we always got off on Lundi Gras, Mardi Gras and Ash Wednesday, not the prior week. Of course, I was in a competing band, so I was out of school for many more days than that, because we were marching, but those 3 days were when the schools were actually closed.
