I see that MK is open late & that they have added a 2nd Spectomagic parade for both of these nights. The schedule looks like a typical 'holiday' schedule. Why are they doing this??? Convention in town???

They've also added Spectromagic for Tuesday - Thursday this week as well. For some reason they are expecting large crowds?

Anyone know the reason for this? I'm willing to switch my days around if necessary..... :confused3

That weekend is Passholders' Preview of Soarin', so the crowds will be larger. :sunny:

That is a very busy time. As Finally Talking said that is when most of New England has school break. I grew up in Massachusetts and that is when we used to always head to Disney. I think it is more crowded then than in the summer. Personally if you can avoid that week I would.

I am totally shocked that this will be a SUPER crowded time of year. I thought I was pretty much past Spring Breaks, and the Ultimate Guide puts this week at a 4 (with 10 being the most crowded).

So, is the Ultimate Guide really that far off?

I guess I'll have to do some MAJOR planning if the crowds are going to be high. :sad2:

Yup, 4/16-4/24 is Spring Break time here in CT and throughout New England, possibly mid-Atlantic states, too.

We just got back and our towncar guy was going on about how he doesn't like that week because all the "rude people from Boston and NY are here". Didn't feel comfortable telling him that I'm originally from Boston and we're not so bad.

I'm with you FishNette... according to the guide April 16-24 should be a good week. We'll be there 4/18-4/26. We will already be in Florida for a wedding so we had to make our first trip to The World :earsboy: . It was looking good for crowds until now. We're from Oregon so all vacations and breaks are over... our Spring break was the week before Easter.

Any idea how crowded it will be? The hours at MK suggest pretty busy... until a few weeks ago the park was sheduled to close at 9pm during that week now it's Midnight for Monday and 10pm the rest of the week. What gives?

We were at Disney March 13-17 and the hours were about the same as they will be April 17-20. It wasn't that bad. It was a bit crowded but not unbearable. We got to MK at 10am and we walked onto Stitch, Indy, Buzz was about a 20 min wait, rode people mover, and we got fast passes for Space Mountain before getting on Stitch. Then we walked to Toon Town and took the train to Frontierland. Got fast pass for Big Thunder(35 mins til use of fast pass), wait 20 mins for Splash Mountain, rode Big Thunder, wait for HM was about 20 mins, fast pass Mickey's Philharmagic (40 mins til we could use it). Left MK at 2pm to go to ESPN Club for lunch. No waiting. Also during the time at MK involved restroom breaks, cigarette smoking (BF does, I don't) and funnel cakes at Sleepy Hollow plus some gift shops. Not bad for 4 hours. We are going again April 17 (our original dates to preview Soarin). Whats funny was when we went in March I had called the day before we left and got WL at a FL resident rate. But for April 17 WL is booked unless I want to pay rack, well I could get FL rate concierge cheaper than regular rack but instead we are going to try AKL (crossing fingers and hoping we will like it).

See ya there!

Something I forgot to add. I'm sorta glad about Monday Mk opened til midnight now we can book Hoopdeedoo (9:30 show with DDE) and take the launch back to MK and then take the bus back to AKL. Before I was dreading taking a bus to DTD then to AKL.

Spring Break for us also. I figure between SB, AP preview of Soarin', Opening weekend of F&GF that they are expecting some higher attendance.
Hey, as long as I'm in WDW, it's all good. Looking forward to the longer hours. We used to always go off-season & have had some seriously short hours.

He really said that? What a nerve. I don't know why we get that reputation, Bostonians are quite nice. But I will be a little rude and say if he doesn't want to go that week, it's 1 less person in the crowds to worry about. :rotfl:

Well, I'm feeling a bit better about this week although I'm preparing for more crowds than originally anticipated. Thanks for everyone's input!!!

Are any of you that will be there the week of April 17-23 planning on going to MK on Sun/Mon when they are having 2 Spectromagics???? My thought was to avoid that park on those days because of the large crowds Disney is anticipating. Especially, since Spectro will also be shown on Tues - Thursday.

Good idea, or bad???

We're arriving on Monday the 18th and as soon as we get our bags dropped off at the hotel we'll be heading to MK. Then we're off to Chef Mickey's for an early dinner and back to MK for the late hours. If it seems busy we may head over to Epcot for the Davy Jones Concert instead of MK.

I think I'm over the panic of the possibility of large crowds. Of course it's WDW... it will be great no matter what. But it sounds like the times have been adjusted and until we get there we won't know for sure why. We'll just hope for the best.

We'll be there that Friday and Saturday if anyone wants to meet up! (We live locally and are there almost every weekend)

We're arriving on the 18th and doing almost the exact same thing!! Our flight lands at 2:45 and we'll be going straight to the MK. We're eating dinner at Chef Mickey's, but not till 8:30. We were going to go to bed after that, since we have an 8:05 Cindy's the next morning, but now we might try to catch the late Spectro. We'll see.

we will be there mon 18th...got CRT early in the am...will go back to Poly for dinner and then back for wishes and second spectro...that second show is usually not that crowded, most see the first, watch the fireworks and leave....we will be on our second wind and prepared to stay until closing!!!!

But I highly doubt that is why they are keeping the parks open later! It would be nice though :teeth:

I think we'll all be fine. Most people on the DIS know how to combat the large crowds, so just come in with a plan, use your FP's, and have a great time. It's the best place on earth, after all!! :goodvibes

I used to go with my family all the time in early July growing up, so I'm always thrilled at the lower crowds in the spring!

My DH just said we need to make some kind of agenda & schedule since it seems like everyone in our group has bailed out..... Everyone wants to go but life just seems to take curves :confused3 I made PSs for 1900 Park Fare on Tuesday and Liberty Tree on Thursday so if Spectro has been added that's a plus for us. :cheer2:

Where are you finding this info about the extra spectromagic times and extended hours for that week? That is the week we are going and now I need to double check our plans and PS's. I'm planning a first trip for 18 and these boards have been a trip-saver!!!!!
