What's for X-Mas Eve Dinner?

Always the same for Christmas Eve, Rib roast, lobster, mashed potatoes, rolls and a couple of veggies. Christmas day is usually left overs.

We always go to longhorn steakhouse for Xmas eve dinner. It's just easier to go out to dinner bc we don't wrap gifts til Xmas eve so the less work we have to do the better lol.

Several years ago we ate at Red Robin on Christmas Eve. So yeah, some restaurants are open on that day.

Last year we got take out from Panda Express. I'm not sure what we're going to do this year for Christmas Eve. Just kinda of reading through this thread to get ideas.

Appetizers! Now that we are all grown we all make something or more than one thing to bring. I make bacon wrapped water chestnuts and cheese straws. Breakfast morning is Wife Saver (made by my mom) and Cinnamon Pull a parts (made by me since I don't like Wife Saver).

What is wife saver?

We have brunch with extended family, then, after church, my husband and I, along with my parents go out for sushi as our modified feast of the seven fishes.

Because it's my Bday we usually have a huge feast of Roast, lamb, roasted potatoes, asparagus and homemade crème Brule. But my mom and her hubby are moving to Europe right after Christmas so we will be celebrating my bday on December 23. Which leaves the 24th open for what we refer to as the Festival of Pies. We make lots of different pies and enjoy the eating of them.

LongHorn Steakhouse for Christmas Eve dinner. Last year they gave each one of us a $10 gift card after we ate. This was a super bonus because we love LongHorn. :)

Shrimp scampi is our traditional Christmas Eve dinner! We eat right after Mass. My mom will also make a ham and homemade potato salad.. On Christmas I make a lasagna but this year my son has asked for a "Thanksgiving meal" so he wants the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, etc. I think I will make it.

Steaks on the grill, baked potatoes and maybe some other kind of veggie. Christmas Day we are eating on property and checking out the parks.

Now this is the way to do Christmas!!! Maybe one day we will...

oh, and take out Chinese for Christmas eve is what we do at my house

Pizza and bottled root beer. A tradition my grandpa started that I continue with my family.

We do either a snack tray with deli meats and cheeses with crackers and dips or homemade chicken and dumplings.Big differance I know but we dont want alot of leftovers because we have some serious food the next day.I think we spend more moneyon and have more food on Christmas than on Thanksgiving

I've never had an AB recipe disappoint! His mashed potatoes, meatloaf, turkey, and a ton of others are in our regular rotation. We did this recipe last year for Christmas Eve and I loved it.

But, now that you've got me searching, Tyler Florence has a Spicy Beef Tenderloin recipe that looks amazing! I love a little spice. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/tyler-florence/spicy-grilled-beef-tenderloin-recipe.html

Thanks for the recipe Dh and I are going to try it on NYE.

We do fondue (in oil, steak and breaded cheese cubes). As sides, chips and dip, green bean casserole, sometimes a Hickory Farms cheese/sausage/cracker assortment. It's kind a weird mix but a fun tradition!

Christmas eve will be a smoked brisket and babyback ribs with potato salad, bake beans, dinner rolls. Christmas day will be either leftovers, a meat and cheese tray and shrimp and crab dip.

I am loving this thread! Thank you everyone for sharing your traditions.

Our immediate family spends Christmas Eve at our house, and maybe one of our parents or an aunt and uncle join us. We have appetizers that always include brie with spicy peach preserves, dried beef roll-ups and Eggnog Punch (equal parts purchased eggnog, vanilla ice cream and ginger ale) or Lime Sherbet Punch. I add other appetizers into it as well. Last year my son asked for Totino's pizza rolls, so those were added to the menu. Then I usually make a nice dessert, such as individual baked Alaska or a birthday cake for Jesus.

Christmas Day varies. My daughter reminded me that last year we had roast beef. This year I think it will be a turkey breast.

Christmas Eve seems to be ham (DH doesn't like turkey), homemade Mac and cheese, green beans (canned by my MIL and heated with a ham bone), and cookies for dessert.
Christmas morning is cinnamon rolls or monkey bread.
Then we go for "breakfast" at GMIL, which is traditional Southern breakfast (think Cracker Barrel), but it never gets ready until lunchtime anyhow (hence the cinnamon rolls).
Then we just eat leftovers.

We usually have country ham, homemade buttermilk biscuits, Mom's potato salad, and a wide assortment of appetizers, desserts and treats. Not sure what we'll have for Christmas Day as it will probably just be DH & I. DS will probably go to his GFs house.

Crab cakes, baked clams, shrimp fra diavola and fresh fruit. Christmas morning we will have quiche and cinnamon rolls.

We also do oil fondue. Usually I will get a few filet mignons and cube them but have also done other cuts of meat and this year we will have venison loin as well.

In addition we also have French Onion Soup, Shrimp Cocktail, Steamed Clams, Fruit Salad, and 1-2 lobsters shared between us. Gingerbread with fresh whipped cream for dessert. This is just our immediate family of 4. Then it is down to FIL's for Christmas Eve with DH's family (usually an assortment of nibbles that no one really eats).

Christmas Eve at my brother's we do French meat pies (family tradition, I make these) turkey, salad and a big pasta dish, cookies and dessert. Christmas morning I do an egg/cheese/pepper/onion/hashbrown casserole, fresh fruit and coffee cake or cinnamon rolls for DH, kids and grandkids, then dinner at my sister's with turkey, ham and all the fixings. We all pitch in and bring sides and desserts.
