What's for dinner? Was it "budget"?

I was thinking this was for Disney dinner ideas. Here's the dinner I used to get at the WDWMK in the 80s.

Frontierland Trading Post: 1 or 2 of the $.30 pickle (now much more expensive -- they caught on to me)

And if I was really good, my dad would let us get the
Frontierland Vendor: $3.00 turkey leg

Now I think the pickle is over a dollar and the turkey leg is $6 something...

Tonight we are having baked chicken (got a good deal, $0.88 a lb for a family pack of "leg quarters", so less than $5 for nearly 6 lbs of chicken) - I will just rub the pieces with a little butter and sprinkle them with some Johnny's seasoning and maybe a little lemon juice.
Along with that we will have mashed potatoes, and I will make gravy from the chicken drippings.
I also got a good deal on a head of fresh cauliflower ($0.99 a lb), so we will have that too!
Gotta love comfort food! :) Happy Wednesday, all!

WOW! A $0.30 pickle sounds heavenly!! I was watching Samantha Brown's Disney Favorites on Travel Channel this weekend, and she grabbed a pickle from somewhere in Adventureland and the sign on that barrel of pickles said $2.50!!! For a bloomin' pickle?!? I can buy a whole JAR of pickles for that!

This is the one I use, only I leave out the sugar.

1 tbsp flour
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp paprika
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 tsp minced onion (dried, or just use powder instead)
1/2 tsp cumin
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp sugar
1/8 tsp ground oregano

Mix ingredients together in cup or small bowl. Add seasonings with 2/3 cup water to browned ground beef. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer for 7-10 mins, stirring occasionally.

Beth

Thanks Beth! I will use your recipe next time.

We're having a London broil tonight. I got a really good deal on it. It was regularly $17 and change and I got it for $6. I was sooo happy to see that!!! :cool1: :) We're having steamed broccoli and baked beans with it.

For dessert, either ice cream with crushed cookies bits on top or the last of the pie from the other night. :)

I buy leg quarters and thighs a lot. I skin them and sometimes de-bone them prior to freezing. A lot less expensive and still very good!

Well, I found a set of 2 sirloin steaks on clearance for 2.61. We are having that with corn, fries, and Kroger biscuits on sale.

Yeah!
It smells delicious.

Well my kids had a revolt:eek: against meatloaf tonight so I changed plans...

Chicken nuggets
Fries
Homemade Applesauce
Green beans

Total $5.00/family of 4

Taco Night !! So that was pretty cheap.

I have a question, I have a roll of ground beef from Walmart that I got on sale because it had to be frozen or used by the next day. Easy enough. We just froze it. It was $ 8.00 for a 5 lb pack. It was 80/20. There is a store up the road that has the same brand of beef and its $9.00 for 5lb but its 73/27. Can anyone tell me what the differnece is? Will I notice it ?

Thanks !

Stir fry.

Frozen Stir Fry veggies ~ $1
Frozen Brown Rice 2 bags $3
Chicken Breasts (from costco, it's like $20 for 8 1lb packages) $2.50

And there are leftovers for lunches tomorrow.

80/20 is a leaner meat than the 73/27. 80/20 is not that lean so I don't think you will tell much difference.

We had sloppy joes with buns about ready to be stale, and potato pieces in evoo...

about 3.00 for everything!

Worked late today, so we had a quick and late dinner. Baked beans on whole wheat toast, mixed greens and sliced cucumber salad, grapes, and some dark chocolate truffles for dessert.

Cost for three people? Maybe $6?

Happy Monday everyone! :)

We're having french toast tonight with fresh blueberries (free!) and link sausage ($2.99). Total for dinner, around $7. Not bad.

Happy Monday as well!

Not quite sure what we are having tonight.... I was supposed to have softball this evening, but because of the beautiful weather its been cancelled. I ge more time for The Dis!! :thumbsup2 :cool1: I am in a dis-haze these days... :confused3 DS1 watched Disney movies from our April vaca all day today!!! It helps me get through.... :guilty:

I went grocery shopping today and got a few different cheap and easy meals for this week.... I have been trying to do at least one meal a week i the crock pot. Its so nice and easy - alsmot like earting out!!?? We have a busy week with softball, Junior Golf, Summer Rec trips, and Football camp!! I picked up things for: Pastrami sandwiches, BLT's, Family pack of steak- 2 meals: one on the grill and the left overs on a Ceasar Salad, Bonelss chix - one meal in the crock pot and something else with the other. Also have things for omlets or quiche one night (Not DHs most favorite thing)... Oh and I have a bunh of left over Spaghetti sauce that I haveto make something with.... No prices here, but know that I was budget minded and all mels should be friendly!! :3dglasses

We went blueberry picking today...we picked 8 pounds at $1.50/lb. They are so yummy!! We also picked up a pint of fresh blackberries while we were there...$2. On the way home, we went to Cracker Barrel for lunch with my mom. She picked up the tab!:yay: We spent the rest of the afternoon at the pool, and just got home. I think it's going to be a very light dinner tonight, with blueberries in there too~! Maybe grilled cheese or french toast and sausage. YUM~

Tonight dinner was mostly leftovers from the weekend. We had:

gnocchi with spaghetti sauce (pasta primavera sauce in a jar, to which I added pureed canned lentils, chopped onion, and pureed cooked cauliflower, giving it a nice creamy texture and more nutrition) (sauce was left over from the penne pasta we had on Saturday, the gnocchi was from the grocery store)

leftover black bean and corn salad (made with canned black beans, red, green, orange and yellow peppers, red onions, and frozen corn - also leftover from the weekend)

green salad with cucumbers and celery (the salad greens were left over from the weekend but I had served it then with tomatoes, onions and cucumbers - the tomatoes and onions are all gone now so this is what I had left for today)

Probably going to the grocery store tomorrow!
