What's for dinner? Was it "budget"?

I like this thread.:goodvibes Tonight we are having deer cubed steak, mashed potatos and peas.Deer is cheap(my son killed this one last year) and very healthy.Cooked correctly you can't tell much of a difference. The whole dinner will cost about $3 for six people minus the deer meat.It costs about $45 to process a deer and we get a TON of meat.

Glad it was bumped up. I was looking but I guess i did not go back far enough. No buget meal tonight. Well I guess it' budget for me since we are eating at my sil and all i have to bring is bread. LOL !

Love all these recipes on hear. Keep them coming.

Budget for us is normally like $10 a meal because of health needs.. (we are a gluten free, wheat free, and vegetarian except my dad)

BUT, i made this deliciously yummy meal last night...

we used up the rest of our giant bag of gf spinwheel noodles and i made up the wierdest but yummy alfredo sauce..

somehow: with the watermelon and it being soda night (only sat. night, only ginger soda at the health-food store..)

the meal probably cost about: 8 dollars..

that's really really really impressive for my family.. who has been known to spend in upwards of 20 bucks for a meal with some leftovers that unfortunatley spoil more often than not.. :sad2: i'm ashamed.. :guilty:

Last night we had

Steamed rice
grilled chicken with broccoli
chopped salad
milk/juice

grapes and apples for dessert

All of the meal was from large Costco size bags and such, but I estimate the meal to be around $3 to $4 and we do have some leftovers as well.

Dawn

Not budget...Lloyd's bbq ribs from BJ's...14.xx for the large size rack, and corn on the cob (4 for $1).

Not budget for us either. We had a KFC bucket of chicken with 3 sides. Picnic lunch and leftovers for dinner. Overall, not too bad for 2 meals.

Looks like we all had the same idea tonight. Not budget for us either, but we will get 2 meals out of it for $12 bucks. We got 2 $5 foot long subs from Subway and a bag of chips for $2. I was not in the mood for cooking tonight. LOL.

I am very excited! I have a double batch of the Flame Tree BBQ sauce simmering on my stove. :lovestruc :lovestruc
I have chicken breast that have been cooking in the crockpot all day and will soon be introduced to the sauce. ;)
Sweet potato fries & corn muffins are in the oven.

very budget- fresh caught (this morning) wild king salmon, grilled veggies and salad from garden, berry cobbler to finish it off (blackberries frozen from last year, making room for this years berries to come) mostly all done on the bbq so minimal clean up. normally I am not very budget friendly but this is pretty good. :cool1:

White beans and rice with sausage. VERY budget friendly!
I would love your recipe, if you are willing to share. That sounds delicious.

Where did you get the BBQ recipe? I would love that recipe as well.

The BBQ recipe is from my Cooking with Mickey and the Disney Chefs book.
This recipe makes 1 1/2 cups but I double it because it will keep in the fridge for 2 weeks. I spooned it over chicken breasts tonight and will use the leftovers for chicken wings cooked on the grill later. :) It would be excellent on pork chops as well.

1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup light brown sugar
2 Tablespoons molasses
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon mild chili powder
1 tablespoon paprika
2 teaspoons onion powder
*1 teaspoon ground turmeric ( i have made this several times and have never added this..it is not a spice i keep in my pantry)
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

In a 2 quart saucepan combine all ingredients.
Bring mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring frequently for 35 minutes or until thickened.
Use immediately or store, covered and chilled for up to 2 weeks.

:goodvibes
