Hi! I am really stumped this year on what to make for our Christmas dinner!:confused3 I was really hoping to come up with some exciting new recipes, but have had no inspiration! :rotfl: I know I don't want to make another Turkey, maybe Ham?? I really need to shop soon! Time is running out!:scared1: Any ideas??

We used to do lasagna, as a tradition, until DH developed an intolerance to tomato sauce.

I made a great pork loin roast last year with a red wine sauce -- YUM! DH and I loved it, the kids did not.

This year, I'm making my first ham! I'm SO not a cook, so if you knew me, you wouldn't be surprised that I've never made a ham before. Everyone assures me that it's easy. We'll see!

We always do Christmas day "by request". I ask each one in my family what they would like to have so the combinations turn out a bit interesting sometimes.
So far we are having chicken salad on croissants, ham poppyseed rolls, hash brown casserole, meatballs, stuffed eggs, chocolate chip pecan pie, mixed berry pie.
I am sure there will be a few more requests but they will have to hurry up because I have to get my shopping list together!
Happy eating no matter what you decide!

beef tenderloin roast
butterhorn rolls
green salad
oven roasted potatoes
green bean casserole
punch or sparkling cider
chocolate pie
apple pie
pumpkin bread pudding with rum sauce

We just discussed the menu this afternoon. My son-in-law is the cook in their family and he is making spiral ham, candied yams, and green beans. I am making tossed salad (made with mesculin, dried berries and thin sliced apples), baked corn, lemon meringue and pumpkin pies. It wasn't discussed, but I will also bring a choco/vanilla layer cake in Christmas tree shape.

it is not a hard decision for us we do the traditional with yummy turkey homemade stuffing and gravy , of course we add some veggies and potatoes and then a cheese tray , i dont think i will ever get sick of this as i havent yet lol, but a lot of people do a baked ham with sprinkle of brown sugar and a can of coke which is very yummy

We are changing things up this year too because I am pregnant. I am hoping to make things easier on myself. Not sure about dessert or pickies yet.

So far I have planned:
Stuffed Shells
Meatballs & Italian Sausage
Garlic Bread
Tossed Salad

We're doing the same thing this year and so far I like it. We're having ham, turkey breast, macaroni & cheese, cranberry meatballs, salad, and various munchies and cookies. I can't wait!

Just got off Oprah's website and there is a whole holiday dinner on there. It looks easy and sounds good!

We do a less formal meal on xmas eve, we all do xmas morning at own homes then gather for dinner at mom and dads late xmas day, they will do a roast, salad, mashed potates....

I'm doing xmas eve dinner for 13:

Honeybaked Ham and turkey breast to make sandwiches
baked beans
fruit salad
coleslaw
baked squash
pickles
deviled eggs

hors' devores

christmas cookies

:santa:

This year we are doing a Turducken. My friend decided she had a better name for it, Fowl Lasagna. I hope it turns out as good as it did the time I made if 5 years ago. I am not sure what I will serve with it but I have a couple days to figure it out.

Honey Ham
Collard greens
green beans
devil eggs
potato salad
dinner rolls
Cake
sweet potato a Southern thing

Standing Rib Roast.

I'm having Christmas Eve here, planning on cooking a semi boneless ham with a Brown Sugar/mustard glaze (Boars Head glaze), potato salad, maybe baked beans, deviled eggs and a big pan of banana pudding. SIL is bringing appetizer type stuff as their income has been reduced (her DH is working two part time jobs since losing his business form sales position last year). DMIL is in the midst of another big depression and says she's not going anywhere. This is sorta different for me, traditionally the past few years meal has been a standing rib roast with new potatoes or the scalloped potatoes from 'Ohana, fresh asparagus and a chocolate cheesecake. Just felt like not going to as much trouble this year. My mom passed away on Christmas Eve 7 years ago so I try to keep myself busy around that time now. I had debated about making the dressing and maybe a turkey breast on Christmas Day and DH said "why bother, I'd just as soon have a sandwich from the left over ham!" I even think I'm going to use the decorative heavy duty paper products this year instead of the Christmas China! Now to just get my house clean :)

DH's aunt is hosting this year. She's short on space, so decided to do a buffet. She is making ham, macaroni & cheese, green bean bundles and taco pizza (?) plus pudding and cake.

I just want to thank you for your post, you made my decision for me. I was going to cook a spiral ham but dh said he didn't really want ham, he wanted roast beef. I just couldn't decide what roast to do until I saw your post!

Doing the turkey...very traditional...Turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, candied yams, peas, turnip...stumped on dessert but leaning towards a bread pudding of some sort. I will be checking out Oprah's site (thanks PP) in case that lends some inspiration.

I'm Canadian and since our Thanksgiving is at the beginning of October I'm looking forward to the turkey, enough time has passed that it doesn't seem like a repeat!

I still have no idea as I host Christmas Eve, the WHOLE fish thing.
Then Christmas Day it will be just DH, DS and me until we go over to his side of family for dessert (there's like 50 of us, no kidding)
Its actually our first Christmas home alone (which DH wants) and I just had his side of family for a dinner party last evening (stuffed shells, spiral ham, rolls, salad and TONS of apps before) Though invited out, he does not want to go this year...... We just had the whole Turkey dinner with my side of family for Thanksgiving and then I did it a week later at home (they wanted the leftovers) so I am STILL trying to decide what to make Xmas day.

I am tossed at this point, so this thread is helpful to me.
Some of the meals sound fabulous and different too. I have not made a roast beef in years....maybe a roast pork loin???? have to think on that one
Happy Holidays to ALL!

Happy to inspire!;)

For Christmas Eve, we'll just have meatball hoagies, some sort of salad, chips, pickles, olives, cheese, etc. Very simple.

Christmas Lunch: Meat and Cheese tray, Rolls for sandwiches, pickles, olives, chips and dip, hummus with pita chips. Again, simple.

Christmas Dinner will be at my parents' house but it will be a late dinner since some of us have to work. There will be 6 adults, 1 child. We'll have:

Appetizer: Shrimp Cocktail, spinach dip in a bread bowl

Honey Baked Ham
Gravy
Mashed Tators
Sweet Tators
Corn
Green Bean Casserole
Baked Mac and Cheese
Baked Beans
Deviled Eggs or pickled eggs
Rolls

Pumpkin Roll and Christmas cookies for dessert
