What's bedtime for your 7 year old

At 7, my kids were in bed at 7:30 - with a half-hour to read.. When the daylight hours were longer, I would push it to 8 or 8:30 - again, with a half-hour to read..

Pushing reading was a BIG thing with me and it was easier to get them to do that if they were in bed and away from all other distractions.. ;)

My DD is 8 and has an 8:30 bedtime, and can read until 9pm... unless she gives me trouble getting her up at 7:30am. (She usually does, so her lights out time is 8:30 on those days.)
DS is 10 and has a 9:00pm bedtime, and can read until 9:30. He falls asleep very well for me (always has) and gets up as soon as I call him at 7:00am.
On the weekends or school holidays they are allowed to stay up till 10pm (sometimes later if they are reading) and can sleep as late as they like.

Thanks everyone. DD-7 has been getting in the bed between 8-8:30 and lights out at 9:00. She's up at 7 (most times without a problem) I started wondering if that is the norm after watching a Cosby episode.

Just curious, what time where they going to bed on the Cosby show?
We try to aim for 8pm for my 8 & 9 y/o with 1/2 hour to read after that, but it usually ends up closer to 8:30 or 9. They get up at 7,but I always have to drag them out of bed, even if they are in bed early! I know of some 9 y/o in her class that are up till 11 or so! I don't know what we'll do when its time for middle school and the bus comes at 6:50!

Why does school have to start so early for the older kids! I think that is a topic for another thread, though. Most of these kids in my neighborhood that ride that early bus are half sleeping for the first part of the school day, so their parents say. We'll see how it goes when the time comes!

Oldest DD 11 only needs 9 hrs (or LESS since the day she was born!!) so used to be 10-7, middle school now causes a problem as the bus comes at 7:15. Trying for 9:30, but she hates sleep!

DD 9 sleeps 9:30-7:30..doesn't fight sleep, gets up easy

DD 7...the only sleeper, finally has to go to bed earlier than her sisters...try for 9-8 and she never wants to get up even on the weekends.

I always wonder what it would have done for my sanity to have 3 sleepers!

As a general rule my 7 year old DS goes to bed at 8:00 p.m. and is up by 7:00 a.m. On the weekends he can stay up a little bit later, but if he gets ornery because he is tired than he is back to bed at normal time.

My DD's (almost 8, almost 6) go to bed at 8 pm. When it is American Idol night they get to stay up barring no complaints of "I'm tired" in the morning.

DD (12) is a night owl!!! I usually fall asleep before her!! She comes up to her room at 10 PM!! Falls asleep......who knows!! But she gets up at 6 AM regardless............with no complaints!!!

Isn't it great to be young!!

Weekdays is 9pm, but they (DDs 6 and 3.5) usually aren't asleep till 10. Last night we ran late and DD#1 was awake till 11:30. She got up at 5:45am with no problem. She is an earlier riser no matter what time she goes to bed. Friday night is their night to stay up till they crash. Saturday they are usually in bed the same as weekdays since we get up early for church.

My DD 9 is in her room by 9:00 pm asleep by 9:30, dd 13 bed by 9:30 asleep by 10:00 1o is as late as either of their curfew/bedtimes will ever be !

The plan is in bed reading at 9pm, lights out at 9:30pm, but DS just doesn't need as much sleep as DD.

DD11 & DS8 in bed with a book at 9pm. Lights out for DD11 at 9:30pm(and she's out immediately) and I'll let DS8 go until 10pm most nights. He just doesn't need the sleep, DD needs it. Even when I turn the lights out after reading for an hour at 10pm, he's still up until 10:30 or 11 in his bed. And then he wakes up on his own around 7:15am. He doesn't need to get up until 7:45am. DD sets her alarm for 7:30am so she can "lay around" for 20 minutes or so before she has to get moving. Really they both get up pretty easily.

Weekends(Fri & Sat) I let them stay up until around 11pm usually, sometimes earlier, sometimes later but that's the norm. DS will sleep in until 8am(late for him) and DD will sleep until somewhere between 8 & 9.

I try and get DS (7) into his bed between 9-9:30 but he watches TV until he falls asleep which is usually before 10:00. There are those nights when he's not tired and won't go to sleep until 11:00 or later, yuk!!! (I hate those nights). DS gets up at the crack of dawn (6:00 am) and has since the day he was born, yuk!!!

Wondering how to get him to sleep later in the morning, especially on the weekends, LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

My 8 yr. old DD's bedtime is 9:00, but unfortunately she doesn't fall asleep right away. Like Snoopy said, there's not much you can do to make a kid go to sleep when they're not sleepy.

On the Cosby Show, Rudy's bedtime at age 9 was 9:30 (the episode when she was trying to stay up late to watch tv) I know I'll get flamed for this, but my DD-7 actually gets to bed soooo easily because of the tv in her room. In bed, some reading and 30 minutes on the tv timer-then she's out! I always watched tv before going to bed (and still do). The only time she's in her room watching tv is before bed and when she wakes up on the weekends. She gets great grades, is sweet and sleeps well. If it ain't broke....

My 11yo and 5yo both go to bed at 8:30 on school nights. On Mondays they are allowed to stay up til 9 so they can watch Fear Factor. They get up at 6:30 during the week. On the weekend they will sleep til 7:30 or so. On Fri and Sat night I let them stay up later. 5yo never makes it much past 9 and the 11yo will go by 10-10:30.

DS went at 8:00 at that age. Then was up about 5:45. Out of the house at 7 a.m. Still am out by 7.

No flaming from here!! My daughter sleeps with me and she watches TV until she falls asleep...if the TV is not on she is jumping up and running all over the place!!

My 7 yo DS goes to bed at 9:00 during the week. On weekends, he gets to stay up late.
