our Trip next week,

Cast- -

Me - recently widowed with two dd's "celebrating" what would have been my dh's 50th birthday. We have visited many times but I anticipate large crowds and emotional teen / pre-teen dd's.

My sil - she has MS, my neice 5yo and my nephew 8 yo with ADHD and some other minor issues.

We have done the parks together without any type of assistance by my sil's MS is getting to where she less able to manage the day and add to that my nephew and his needs and it gets complicated.

Generally I run for FP's while my dd's help my sil with the younger kids - this may or may not work this trip as they are dealing with emotions that come and go :(

I know that it is easier for the CM's to help if we know what to ask for but honestly I have no idea what we need/ what is available and hence what to ask them for??

Any advice - thanks in advance -

Your SIL may want to look into renting an ECV (electric mobility scooter) or a wheelchair if she is worried about all the walking and/or standing in line.

I would suggest you check out post #2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread which is about renting wheelchairs and ECVs, post #3 of that thread which has some links which may be helpful and post #6 which has information about Guest Assistance Cards.

Yeah, my uncle has an ECV, its really flexible.

Bring along your nephew's favorite fixation (hand-held video game, etc) to use when he has to wait - that can be a life saver for queues, shows, busses and restaurants.

Sorry that I have no tips to offer you but I wanted to give you a  and tell you that I hope you all have a wonderful, magical trip!

The ECV does sound like a wonderful idea for your SIL.

We may see you by the end of next week!

If your SIL all of a sudden needs to rest ( a member of my family has MS so I know how it gos) then she can go to any first aid station and they will let her rest on a cot in a private room. They are great about that.

See about getting a GAC for your nephew if he needs some special accomodations (i.e quiet area to wait, stroller as a wheelcahir, etc). Do whatever you have to to make the trip better for all.

Thanks everyone -lots of good ideas, the DS is a great idea for my nephew he also loves his Ipod shuffle

My sil won't rent a wheelchair or ecv at this point so we will just take it at her pace. I think the only accomodation she would need is a wait out of the sun and that probably isn't going to be an issue next week !

I will do some more reading here and then just be honest with the CM if/when we need help.

WDW has done a good job in the last 10 years at making shaded areas for waits. Many of the queues are actually inside a building, which helps with sun. The ones that are not inside mostly have roofed areas for the majority of the wait area.

My extra hints for your SIL are:
-stop before she gets too tired. It's easy to push to go just a little bit more. She needs ti be careful not to get to the point of having pushed just a little too much and not have enough left to get back to the resort.
- the other hint is to make sure she is keeping hydrated. Dehydration can lead to more muscle spasms and muscle pain.
