What's allowed in the parks and what's not? Will someone "randomly" check bags for items? I want to pack a diaper bag for the boys with snacks and sippy cups and things like that but don't want to disobey the rules.

Thanks!

Hi,

That won't be a problem at all. You will be checked at the gate by WDW security but you will be allowed in with those items.

I always bring in snacks for my two kids (ages 4 and 2) and we've never had a problem. Some people frown on this however.

yup kid stuff and diaper bags is fine. Its not like airports with the liquid rules and all that. We have never had a problem with it.

The checks will not be random at all. If you have a nysort of bag, it WILL be checked. Other than something obvious like weapons, they are checking to make sure you do not bring glass containers OR alcohol into the parks. Take in all the food and drink you want, just make sure there's no glass and no alcohol.

In addition, you can't bring straws into Animal Kingdom.

You'll be fine with sippy cups and snacks. :thumbsup2 Here are the official rules from disneyworld.com:
Items that you may not bring into the Theme Parks include, but are not limited to:
  • Items with wheels, such as wagons, skateboards, scooters, inline skates, shoes with built-in wheels, two-wheeled or three-wheeled conveyances, strollers larger than 36" x 52", suitcases, coolers, or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" long x 15" wide x 18" high (coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations), and any trailer-like object that is pushed or towed by an ECV wheelchair or stroller
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Folding chairs
  • Glass containers (excluding baby food jars and perfume bottles)
  • Pets (unless they are service animals)
  • In Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park (for the safety of the wildlife), balloons, straws and drink lids are not permitted.

When I used to go with my Mother in my early (not so financially gifted) days we would bring an entire picnic lunch and eat on Tom Sawyers island. We just made sure to bring no glass objects.

They WILL search you, just have your stuff open and ready to be looked at...it shortens up the line immensly.

Nothing is worse that a family with 4 bags apiece that looks at the security guard like "What bag search, what are you talking about"....even though they are told about it for 100ft before you get there.

Have fun.

And, your leatherman micra (with its 1" blade and 3/4" scissors) better be in your pocket not your bag! :furious:

Not sure where this list came from but we have brought a cooler to every park for the last three years. It's a small 12 pack cooler that fits under the stroller. We always pack it with water bottles and crystal light. They check it every time you go in but they do allow coolers unless something has changed since last year

You ARE permitted to bring collers of a certain size into the parks. Although Disney does a poor job with the wording, the rules that Brian posted included this phrase: "suitcases, coolers, or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" long x 15" wide x 18" high."

The cooler you brought, the one that can fit under the stroller and can hold up to a 12-pack, is clearly smaller than the maximum allowable dimensions noted above.

The size requirement listed in the rules is equivalent to what could (theoretically) fit inside a rental locker at the parks.

Actually I always bring a semi hard plastic straw into AK in plain view in the my drinkholder and have never been stopped.

Do they check fanny packs as well? Just wanted to figure out if having all of us split our stuff among various famny packs will save us time vs. putting it all in a backpack.

yes. they check purses, bags, fanny packs, stroller bags, coolers... basically any accessory that can hold stuff

Thanks for clarifying that for me, Eric. You're right that Disney could have worded it better, or at least used semi-colons to separate the phrases. :)

For the record, the rules I posted are from the Theme Park FAQ page at disneyworld.com:

Sorry brau,

I thought about it after I wrote my reply- I couldn't tell by the way it was worded if the wheel dimensions were referring to the coolers, suitcases, etc.
