What's all the hype about???

Thanks! :thumbsup2

After Soarin', Haunted Mansion is my next "must do" and the masses seem to all agree it lives up to the hype.

Unless I missed a post (sorry if I did), it looks like the one thing at Disney that gets lots of positives and no negatives is haunted mansion!

Haunted Mansion is one of my fave rides. Its not a thrill ride, clearly. But you have to appreciate all the detail and work that goes into this ride. I just love it.

I think that the people saying Soarin' might have misplaced expectations that it is a "thrill ride" - it isn't nor is it meant to be. But what it is has been done brilliantly in terms of execution - I mean how many rides do you get people applauding at the end of?

I don't quite get the hype about Illuminations - I mean, I enjoy it and it is a very good firework display, but the rest of it seems a bit drawn out and the "story" is not very well defined. I much prefer Wishes or Fantasmic.

Totally agree with Illuminations. I've skipped it for years. Twice was enough for me.

:rotfl2: :lmao:

:rotfl2: :lmao:

For me, the overhyped is: Le Cellier. I dont understand the hype. I thought my meal sucked. The soup is gross. and my steak was terrible!

Dole whips: i didnt care for it. I love the orange/vanilla swirl waaaay better.

I agree about Soarin'. Its ok. Nothing spectacular of course!

My must do is Haunted Mansion. I just love it!

We finally got in to the ever popular Le Cellier last week and frankly it was okay. Not worth the money spent.

Most overhyped at WDW: Everything

Must do's: nothing

Now I love everything about WDW as a whole, it's a great escape and a great break from reality, BUT there is really nothing in the parks now that I absolutely HAVE TO DO or my vacations ruined. We "stop to smell the roses" and try to enjoy everything that we can, but if we miss something oh well there's always next trip.

Are there things that I definitely have no interest in? Sure is; Stitch's great escape, Backlot tour, the stunt show at HS etc all come to mind.

Are there things that I think are way overhyped? Yup! Let's see Soarin, TSM, and EE are a few I can think of. Do I like these attractions, sure do! But I just don't understand how guests can wait in line that long for a ride. There is not much at WDW that I would wait in line for more than 30 mins for.

We do rope drop most mornings and the other this that we make a point to make a quick run to is the morning is teh Safary at AK. That's it.

Are there things that I like to do each trip? Aboslutely, DW and I love HM, POTC, Breakfast as Akershus, Test Track etc. But again, if we miss out, IE Test Track will be down for our next trip, we don't loose any sleep.

Toy Story Midway Mania.

Don't get me wrong. I thought it was a good ride. Much better than Buzz. However, the first time we visited WDW after it opened, I had heard so much hype about it I was basically expecting the second coming. I told DH how popular it was, andhe got excited. Then, it took us three tries to get on the danged thing (as we refuse to stand in a ridculous line). Finally, we rode it and afterwards we're like, "Is that it?!? People stand in line for hours for this?":confused3

for my family, our trip would not be complete without a trip to the bakery in France for a pastry. we love the treats (and find them reasonably priced, all things considered), the atmosphere, and it's a fantastic place to people watch.

over hyped? the resort room prices.

Snorin Borin Soarin. I could do without it. Much better things to do at Epcot, like sitting at a table in France eating creme brulee :thumbsup2

I don't understand all the comments on Soarin. It's a must-do for us, usually more than once each trip if we can. To me, it really makes you feel like you are flying, which is an awesome feeling.

I've also never understood the lack of love for DHS. I agree that it doesn't have as much as some of the other parks, but it's got two of the best Disney attractions (ToT and RnR) and we really enjoy all the shows.

Overhyped:
Toy Story - it was a fun ride and I understand that a lot of it's popularity is due to it being one of the few family rides at DHS, but it just wasn't nearly as awesome as I expected. There are very few rides I'd wait longer than 20 minutes for and Toy Story isn't one of them.

Test Track - Probably one of the most boring rides I've been on. The first time we went, we got off thinking "is that it?" We do still ride it, because the younger kids like it, but we would never wait in a long line for it.

Space Mountain - It looks very cheap and dated and it's incredibly rough, always giving me a headache. This makes me sad because I have fond memories of riding Space Mountain in Disneyland back in the 80's and 90's. But I just don't like riding the WDW version now.

Must Do's - Splash, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Rock N Roller, Tower, Soarin, Everest, Safari, Lion King

Must Do's: Splash Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Spaceship Earth, Living with the Land, Maelstrom, RnRC, Everest

Overhyped food: Turkey legs, Dole whips
Must do food: Rice crispie treat from MK Bakery, Cape May Clambake, a float from Auntie Gravitys, Creme brulee or tart from Boulangerie Patisserie

Kali River Rapids. Are you kidding me?! The line is ridiculous (fortunately we used fast passes but I felt sorry for others waiting in line) and the ride is very short. Grizzy River Rapids at California Adventure is much longer and has that awesome drop down the waterfall. Disney should re-do Kali more like Grizzy.

Must do Pirates every trip!

I didn't include it because although it sucks, it doesn't get a lot of praise, so not really over hyped.

But I totally agree with you. We've done the raft rides at Sea World San Diego and at Islands of Adventure and both of them are 100 times better than Kali.

Definitely agree with this...we did stay at CBR last year and were left like :confused3
I don't think the Mods are really for us, but we may be trying POFQ next year.

The only mod we've stayed at is POR. We love that resort and definitely felt like it was a worthwhile upgrade from Pop and the All Stars. The values are fun, but POR made us really feel like we were on vacation. It's just a beautiful, peaceful, relaxing resort. We loved the pool, loved walking along the river, loved the boat ride to DTD. Just loved the whole atmosphere.

Space Mountain, I guess. It's a terrible rough ride, and the theming leaves me cold.
I must eat... oh, so many things. If I have to pick only one, I guess it's a coffee and carrot cake cookie at the Writer's Stop. And I must do my beloved Haunted Mansion.

oooh, thought of another - most overhyped adult treat - Grand Marnier Slushie - frozen baby aspirin with hardly any booze in it!

Must do Haunted Mansion several times every trip!
Don't think POTC is all that great. Okay, but not my favorite.
As far as food I have to have Ghirardelli at DTD.

I don't get all the debate over character buffet breakfasts. It's basically the same food at all of them and all of them are seriously over-priced. And while I'm at it, a Mickey waffle is just an ordinary waffle, folks -- there's nothing special about it. Yeah, it's shape like Mickey, blah, blah blah

Jungle Cruise and Toy Story Mania - in my opinion both over hyped.

My personal must do is TOT, love that ride :goodvibes

Character greetings. I understand why kids like it but the reactions of some adults to a CM in a costume is amusing to me.

This made me laugh. I dutifully trotted my kids to all the characters until they finally told me they hated hugging those strangers in costumes. They had just put up with it for a couple of trips so as not to hurt my feelings. I guess they never got it either!

DME.... I'd rather they lower hotel prices and have it as a separate charge so those of use who don't want to use it don't have to subsidize it. To me, it is a huge waste of time.
The point of DME is so people don't rent cars at the airport and then have the option of driving off-site for dinner or, gasp, Universal Studios!

Ride I can do without- Pooh

Ride I can't miss- IASW, yeah I know... it's a nostalgia thing- reminds me of my dad- he loves that ride

Restaurant I LOVE- haven't found one yet- hoping to next visit- all I have been to (and I have been to many) have been "passable" but not fantastic

LMAO at this- My 3 turning 4 year old Princess OBSESSED (at the time) daughter told me that the Princesses at WDW weren't the "real" Princesses b/c Ariel's hair was obviously a wig- hahahaha.

All the thrill rides. I just don't think it's fun to be thrown around while strapped to a plastic seat.

FANTASMIC!! It's my favourite any kind of entertainment anywhere!
