What is the one thing (ride, attraction, restaurant, or food item) that you think gets too much hype at Disney and could perosnally do without? Also, what is the one thing you have to do or eat?

For me it's Soarin'! I just don't get it I guess. The best part of the ride for me is the scents but thats about it. Just does nothing for me.

Forgot the second part of your question.

The one thing I can't miss every trip is The Haunted Mansion.
No favorite food item or place to eat, I think generally speaking the food at Disney is pretty basic. There is nothing we look forward to food wise.

Pretty much all food in WDW (with very few exceptions these days) sucks and has gotten ridiculously expensive. A few exceptions are some of the character breakfasts (although the pricing has really gotten out of hand for them), ice cream at some of the places and, well, I think that's about it. ;)

On that note, the whole food plan has ruined eating in WDW. They standardized on crappy food items (for cost savings) and now it's next to impossible to get a reservation to eat somewhere (not that I've really wanted to lately) because people are booking so many restaurants and nothing is open to others. I realize you can book, what, 6 months in advance? But I don't even know what I'm eating for dinner tonight much less 6 months from now.

I also don't get the Stitch attraction in MK. But, then again, I didn't get the Alien Encounter before that. AE was, well, kinda stupid and they replaced it with Stitch and it's the same format...still stupid.

I also don't get pin trading. Well, let me rephrase that, I get the idea of trading but the pin prices have just gotten out of hand. I remember buying some pins (a while back) and the MOST I spent on pins was about $8 (was too much then!). Some of these pins are like $20 now! And people have TONS of them! I just don't get it...

Fantasmic. Yeah, I said it...Fantasmic. I saw it when it first opened and a couple of times since and, honestly, I don't get the excitement. It's, well, it's kinda boring. Not to mention crowded like crazy. Ditto for the fireworks at EPCoT. They're boring. I know, I'm not supposed to say these things about these shows but I just find them boring.

Oh, remember the Electric Light Parade? OMG, I can't stand that darn song playing over and over and over and over.... I'd much rather listen to It's a Small World that many times...

I think that about covers it for now.

I don't get what all of the excitement is about. I sat there bored to tears, thinking omg when is this over:rotfl2:
Oh and Downtown Disney. Quite frankly I was a little creeped out by it :confused3

We have to do Haunted Mansion and Pirates every trip. We tend to always get one ressie in at Kouzzina too. The Boardwalk at night, before we go up to our room is a must do!

You think Downtown Disney is creepy? Why? I'm not judging you in anyway, I'm honestly curious. :)

Soaring

Its ok but not really worth the run from rope drop at epcot to get fast pass for

I have to do the Haunted Manion every trip without fail whilst wearing my haunted mansion tshirt that glows in the dark lol

i also have to have a mint choc milk shake from the resort num num num]

one thing i think is heavily over-played and over-rated ... its gotta be im sorry to say... Peter Pan flight... its a classic, its nostalgic i get it but... i think its time for an update?

If I had to pick something for all of WDW instead of park by park, I would say Hollywood Studios. I don't get that entire park. Let me say that I'm not a big thrill rides person, and ToT and RnR are too extreme for me, so that takes out two of its headliners right there.

I know lots love it, but I just don't get it.

I think that the people saying Soarin' might have misplaced expectations that it is a "thrill ride" - it isn't nor is it meant to be. But what it is has been done brilliantly in terms of execution - I mean how many rides do you get people applauding at the end of?

I don't quite get the hype about Illuminations - I mean, I enjoy it and it is a very good firework display, but the rest of it seems a bit drawn out and the "story" is not very well defined. I much prefer Wishes or Fantasmic.

I was going to say Winnie to the Pooh at MK, but I agree with Hollywood Studios. My son loved Toy Story Mania (but the wait was up to 160 minutes?!?!), but other than that, the entire park was a bust for us. We liked the shows, but nothing blew us away.

I agree with the HS comment. Went with DD and DM (70) both do not want to do headliner. Arrived at rope drop with nothing to do. TSM was broken and shows did not start for 2 hours. Could skip it.

Haunted mansion is my all time fave. One year we went on in the am by the pm they had changed the ghosts at the end. DD was so upset guess it would be her fave as well

Character greetings. I understand why kids like it but the reactions of some adults to a CM in a costume is amusing to me.

Other than that there isn't a whole lot that I think is over-hyped because there is such a wide diversity of attractions that appeal to different people.

There are certainly some aging attractions that I wouldn't mind being replaced though.

Can't miss: Haunted Mansion, All three mountains, EE and TT.

Soarin' for me too.. and not just because i'm afraid of it. Well, maybe partially because i was afraid of it?

If it got cleaned up i might like it more, or if they add another movie so you could have one or the other like at the Great Movie Ride, but they put you so high up, and try to simulate a hang glider, but its like, just sitting a watching a movie 40 feet in the air with just a seatbelt.... oh well....

can't miss for me? Pirates and Tower of Terror!

Toy Story Mania and Stitch.

Have to do Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Small World, and Carousel of Progress (because it is an original from Walt).

Dole Whips. Peter Pan's Flight. Autograph books. (Seriously. My kids were like "what am i going to do with a bunch of signitures later? What is the point?")

For me-- its the Dole Whip.
Before our first visit I read how people rave about those.
I had to try one.
Now I dont know if its because I went there when it first opened but it was the most disgusting thing I ever had.

it was warm pineapple juice poured over soft serve ice cream. as if the pineapple juice was an after though.

after reading sooo many " oh mi gawd-- its soooo good" I was really disappointed

Over-hyped:
Vinylmation
Pin Trading
Test Track

Must do:
Great Movie Ride
Fantasmic
Haunted Mansion
