What's all the hype about???

To me, it seemed that Jennah was making fun of those of us who don't care for HS. That's the thing about the internet, it's hard to tell someone's intent. If I'm just being overly sensitive, then sorry.

Yeah, I mean sometimes I think that someone is criticising someone elses decisions, but sometimes it's just because they are posting their opinions forcefully so that it seems they don't value others, which mostly isnt the case.

That's why I prefer face to face conversations, but unfortunately I don't know enough disney nerds like me to do so! :lmao:

You didn't include resorts in your question but honestly I'd have to say I don't get the deluxe resorts. The prices are just ridiculous and what you get for the insane price difference between a mod and a deluxe? I just really don't get it. It's not about what I personally can afford or can't afford. It's that I don't think you are actually getting $250+++ more value per night. I don't get it.

I also don't understand why the line is so long for Peter Pan. Even during MNSSHP when all the big rides were walk-ons, Peter Pan had at least a 30 minute wait. What's the draw? I don't get it!

I agree about delux resorts. whats the hype?! is the major diff from mod to delux the monorail and proximity to the parks? if you compare the mods to delux, for the price you pay its not much of a diff between the two. i dont get the draw to delux either.

I think peter pan is popular because its a clasdic. I personally love that ride!

I'm shocked that people don't get the Haunted Mansion. What is there not to get? It's a haunted mansion! I really think you people have something wrong with you!

There's nothing I don't get. Certain things may not be my favorite, but everything is enjoyable.

Also, if I see one more person talk about how bad the food is now (all because of that life-ending dining plan!)--I will scream! There are so many restaurants and you can't find one that you like? Come on--what do you do then? Starve? I think people like to complain just for complaining's sake. Get over it!

lol!! i agree with this!! I looove haunted mansion! have you noticed how much detail goes into this ride? amazing!

And i agree about the food. there are tons of restaurants in disney. there isnt one that suits your taste buds? thats crazy! and i swear if i hear the term "dumb down" one more time im gonna scream!

For me-- its the Dole Whip.
Before our first visit I read how people rave about those.
I had to try one.
Now I dont know if its because I went there when it first opened but it was the most disgusting thing I ever had.

it was warm pineapple juice poured over soft serve ice cream. as if the pineapple juice was an after though.

after reading sooo many " oh mi gawd-- its soooo good" I was really disappointed

:thumbsup2

Not miss activity
Mouse boats in the lagoon!!!
Ice cream cookie sandwiches at main st bakery

Over hyped
Le cellier for me
California grill for hubby

For me it's Soarin'! I just don't get it I guess. The best part of the ride for me is the scents but thats about it. Just does nothing for me.

ditto for us. After standing in line for an hour be cause of all the "can't miss" comments DH and I had to wonder why anyone would rave about it. Needs way updated to this century. HD, 3-D something. I have no sense of smell so didn't even get that part.

Flame suit, on. Firstly, I consider that you don't have to do something to realise how overhyped it is for you personally. With that said, here we go:

Overhyped:

Staying on site. Honestly, I'm sure staying onsite is magical for some people, and that's fine. But it's just not for me.

ADR's. Never done one, never felt the urge too. Too much stress. I'm fine with other people booking them if that's your way, but nope not for me. 'nuff said on that one.

Eating in expensive resteraunts. I have very common tastes so that's a big part of the reason I just don't get this. I just couldn't see myself spending that on any meal though unless I thought it truly worth it, and in most of those resteraunts I don't, not least for the time you lose whilst eating. I'm not judging people who do this, but for me I couldn't do it, I need to grab a quick bite and get back to the action. I also tended to eat offsite late on a night near my hotel, so that factors in here too.

STITCH. Peter Pan. Dumbo. IASW. Most of these have something to do with my age I know. I also can't see 3d, so I don't get the hype for those rides due to medical reasons (except the muppets. I can still appreciate good comedy!)

The fireworks shows... not a fan of fireworks in general. Parades, the crowds drive me bananas (sure I have a mild fear of them, it tends to manifest in fantasies of me with a cattle prod...)

ETA: The new fastpass system. I forsee it being a disaster for both onsite and offsite guests. But then I am a glass half empty person, with often irrational fears... so you could probably dismiss this one

Must do's:

ALL the parks for a FULL day at least. Couldn't imagine doing any less.

The mountains, TT, Soarin' (LOVE IT), HM, KRR, SM to name a few rides. The indy show, LMA, Muppets 3d etc etc.

EPCOT, the world showcase. Couldn't imagine skipping it EVER.

JMO, YMMV, I don't mean to pass judgement on anyone else. This is a purely individual post consisting of opinion.

I have to agree 99% of this. Just don't like Soarin'. Always seemed like a waste of time to us, but everything else you hit the nail on the head :-)

The "finding nemo" show in AK. I was looking around during it thinking, "does anyone else think this sucks big time, like I do?"

They sell a fantastic brownie hot fudge sundae near fantasyland that is WAY better then doll whips.

The Almond Pretzel in Norway. Yuck! It tastes like communion bread with fingernails sprinkled on top!

:lmao::rotfl2: I've never tried that before, but that's a fantastic description. If it just tasted like Communion bread, that would actually be good (provided your experience of Communion bread is the same as mine--I know it varies by churches), but the part about fingernails sprinkled on top ruins it.

I personally don't understand all of the hype with TSSM. It's an OK attraction, but not one of our must do's. I can't do without eating at Tangerine Cafe at Morracco in the WS. In my opinion it's the best deal and best food of any counter servfice at WDW :goodvibes

I was going to say Winnie to the Pooh at MK, but I agree with Hollywood Studios. My son loved Toy Story Mania (but the wait was up to 160 minutes?!?!), but other than that, the entire park was a bust for us. We liked the shows, but nothing blew us away.

HS....not sure how you can not like it.....how about the muppets, or Walt Disney Animation, or Little Mermaid, or the street actors, or Tot, or RnRRC

I don't think there's really anything that I flat out HATE. Sure, of course there's things that I rarely do on trips, but that's just because of my tastes!

There's one thing that I don't get nearly as excited about as everyone else does though, and I don't think it's been mentioned: the Buzz Lightyear ride in MK (I know, *gasp!*). Now, I do understand that most people love it and that it can be fun and competitive, but for me, eh. I do like TSM a lot, but for some reason, this one doesn't cut it (I did like it when I was 8/9/10 when it first came out...). First off, I am terrible at it. Even if I try, I just can't seem to hit the targets. But I never feel like playing anyways. I go on it for my family, my mom is without a doubt the best at it, but you know what I do- I sit there and enjoy the "scenery" and chillness of it. And, I prepare myself for the picture! My hair is always perfect and I always look perfect in the pic, smiling right at the camera. Everyone else has their face down in the gun/target, but I'm cheesing it up for the camera! :goodvibes So I enjoy that part of it, but that's about it. LOL

MUST DOs:
A lot of stuff, pretty much everything. But my faves:

Dinosaur (over and over and over...)
Everest
Tigers at AK
Spaceship Earth
World Showcase
Well, really all of EPCOT...
Space Mountain
Winnie the Pooh
Animation Studio at HS
RnR
Meeting Stitch
Watching the animals at home (AKL)
Illuminations (even though I watched it time and time again while working IG, I never get tired of it!)
Jalepeno cheese-stuffed pretzels and a frozen chai tea at AK!
Boma breakfast!
Margherita from Mexico! (and at least 1 other drink from another country...)

I'm gonna stop now, cuz the list could go on and on... Really I could just walk around WDW and be happy! :goodvibes

I don't think there's really anything that I flat out HATE. Sure, of course there's things that I rarely do on trips, but that's just because of my tastes!

Actually, I just thought of something that I don't get- Cars!

I did not enjoy the movie at all (it was pretty boring), and I didn't bother seeing the 2nd one. I don't get the fascination. It's the only Disney/Disney-Pixar movie that I do not like at all. I was soooo worried when I heard TT was getting refurbished that it was going to be Cars themed, thank goodness it's not! Hate is a strong word, but...

Faves for me are:
MK-wishes, parade, TSM, main st happenings
AK- lion king show, tigers, tree lady, tigers
HS-TT, Aerosmith, Beauty and Beast show, fantasmic,
Epcot-all of world showcase, crush, getting pearls in japan

over-rated
DTD-planet hollywood
MK-dumbo, cups, splash mountain
AK- mount everest (i have six flags in my back yard basically so Everest is no match)
Safari, river rapids,
HS-ariel, indiana jones
Epcot- nothing really

I am soooo glad I started this thread! There are lots of informative posts, and some that are just making my day by giving me a huge laugh! I love the people on the boards :)
