My friend is getting back on the dating bandwagon and asked me for some fun and unique ideas for things to do on a first date. I don't even remember the last first date I went on so I was hoping to get some help from you all. I already gave him the dinner and a movie suggestion but he wanted something more original. He's going on a blind date next weekend.

So, what's an original place to go or thing to do on a first date? TIA :)

The problem with going to movies is that you just sit next to someone you barely know and don't get a chance to talk much. That could be fine if the date appears to be a dud, but not if you actually want to get to know someone. How about a trip to the zoo? Museum? Art gallery? At least then they could have an ongoing conversation. Even bowling might be fun.

Thanks! I'm going to pass those ideas on to him. The museum one is especially good since there's a disney exhibit going on right now. He's not a disney person but it's supposed to be amazing.

On all my blind dates we usually went mini-golfing and that was always a good way to get to know one another in a tense free situation. The zoo or a musuem is also great suggestions. Horse back riding can also be a lot of fun! What about amusement parks or rock wall climbing?

We have a cabaret style theater in our area which was always a good first date thing, because you could lean over and chat a bit, there was an intermission for chatting and you had a subject to chat about.

That was going to be my suggestion. Our mini golf place also has go-carts and I think that would be so much fun on a first date.

Line dancing, salsa dancing, cooking class, picnic, kite flying, a walk on the beach, paddle boats, zoo, a walk around a city, a bookstore and coffee, bike riding, hiking, rock climbing.

you could just go to a bar and get drunk

About that rock wall climbing.... I don't know about you but I wouldn't want a man I barely knew looking up at my backside as I was strapped in a harness flailing about like a rag doll. But that is just me.

Taking the dogs for a walk, bike riding, painting pottery, wine tasting at a local winery or beer at a brewery, a boat ride on the local lake/ocean, canoing, rock climbing at an indoor rock climbing place, coffee at a place that has live music, laser tag, a play, going to see the local improv troupe, an independent film, making cookies at home

That pretty much sums up my first date with my husband ;)

I just sent my friend an e-mail with all these ideas. I'm sure they'll go over better than my lame dinner suggestion. I did enjoy those free meals though back when I was a starving student.

DH and I used to take long walks, usually at a waterfront park, and talk about anything and everything. In fact, on our first date we had some time to kill between dinner and our movie, so we took a drive up into the hills. We talked about all the no-nos: Politics, religion, family and exes! :rotfl:

We found that we were opposites on darn near every subject, and from then on debated, teased, laughed and relaxed (because this clearly wasn't going to develop into anything, LOL!)

I could not figure out why he kept asking me out after that, but I'd had so much fun, we kept dating. He said he'd never been with someone so refreshingly honest. ;)
