What's a good bag for weekend trips?

Hi Everybody,
I'm looking for a piece of luggage for weekend trips. I have a 21' rolling carry on but that's really more than I need for 2 or 3 days. Something I could hand/shoulder carry. But it would be nice if it had a strap that would hold it on to my carry-on and that would be all I needed for a week long trip.
What's your favorite? Suggestions are appreciated! Thanks.
Lora

I use the Vera Bradley duffel in both small & large sizes. Either can be carried on & have double straps.

I LOVE the Vera Bradley Weekender. It has handles and a strap. I've used it many times for short trips. It's expensive but they have sales quite often. :)

I absolutely love Kipling bags. I have the Adara medium tote (don't let "medium" size fool you... it's a pretty generous size) has gone everywhere with me - airplane carry on, beach tote, road trips, weekend/overnight trips. I've had it for 2 years and it has held up extremely well.

:thumbsup2 My Mom, nieces, friends and I would all agree that it is the Vera Bradley Miller bag. It has 6 large interior pockets and zips shut. I even gave one to a good friend and her boyfriend has used it on a trip. She was cute and sent me a pic of her with her Vera on Vero. Her duffles are nice but the the Miller has the right amount of structure without being stiff. To me it has the benefits of the Weekender and Duffle in one.

:) Vera's bags are washable and also are cute monogrammed. My Mom and I have a matching set that we do quick trips with. She loves having all the little matching pieces.

Weekend currently priced well in her Outlet Sale on the website.

Thanks. I checked out all of them. I read that the new weekender will have a trolley strap so that will make it perfect, except I'm sure it will be a while before it goes on sale. I really like the Get Carried Away tote, but didn't care for any of the patterns on sale. I'll keep my eye on them though.

I bought a Get Carried Away bag for $36 during the July 4 sale. I'm shocked at how big it looks flat! I got it for an international trip. I want to put a lot of stuff in it since it will be 25-30 hours from the time I leave to the time we get to the first hotel, but I want it to fit under the airline seat, too. Does it?

I agonized over which bag to get and don't want to make a mistake! This bag seems like it will hold a lot and do what I need. I'm not wild about the stiffness of the plastic-lined pockets, but I'll probably love them when I want to put a bottle of water in there on my way on the plane.

It would be great if it fits under the seat and count as a personal item instead of a carry-on. I think it would work if its not over stuffed.

Don't know the prices as compared to Vera Bradley website, but ebags.com carries Vera and Kipling. I also see both in TJ Maxx frequently (they go quick!)

Has anyone ever used the VB Metropolitan bag for overnight or weekend trips? By dimensions, it's not much smaller than the weekender but the way it's designed (to hold a laptop) it may not be as roomy on the inside as I'd like.

I have the Metropolitan as well as the Weekender and it has a padded divider in it for a laptop. There's not as much room to pack stuff. I don't think it would work all that well as your only bag for a trip. It does fit under the seat on a plane, though.

I love the Vera Weekender, but there is also the Grand Traveler. Check that one out, too! Thirty-one makes some cute weekend bags, too.

i ordered the Vera Large Duffle bag a week or so ago...can't wait to get it! i read its good for a week of travelling! i ordered it online for 40% off - i hear the store has great sales on the 4th -- next year :)

I have the grand traveler and love the bag. It holds so much and is great because you can fit a couple of pairs of shoes in there, a heavy jacket or even a pillow or throw blanket. However, it is large. It will not fit under the seat of a plane and will count as your overhead compartment piece of luggage, so you couldn't take this bag and a wheeled suitcase as carry-ons. However, if you're looking to replace the wheeled carry-on suitcase, this bag is great! Thanks to the pockets and compartments, I can fit more in this than in a carry-on suitcase.

I also have the get carried away tote and love that bag as well. It works perfectly as a weekend bag if you don't need thick sweaters or multiple pairs of shoes. Basically, you could fit a couple of pairs of jeans, a few shirts, an extra pair of shoes, pj's and a makeup bag. It isn't going to hold anything thick, bulky or big. This bag fits perfectly under the plane seat as long as it isn't overstuffed.

I really recommend Vera Bradley bags for travel. Honestly, I really wasn't a fan of their bags and the patterns and designs and such. But my mom recommended them and I found the grand traveler was the size, shape and in the budget I was looking for, so that's the one I ended up with. I was so pleased with how the bag has held up, how it washes up and how much I can fit, that I have since ordered the get carried away tote and Vera tote. I travel a lot, am rough on my bags, I shove them full and at times they are very heavy, but there is absolutely no strain, tearing, unraveling threads or anything on these bags. They look great and really have held up well and put the more expensive carry-on I've had in the past to shame. I know I sound like a walking billboard, but I really do recommend these bags as carry-ons or weekend bags.

Thanks. Like you, I was never a fan of the VB patterns. But DD13 has several VB pieces and I found that they are so well designed and made. I've looked in our local store for the Get Carried Away Tote because I would like to see and compare it to the Weekender but, of course, they don't have it right now. I'm not in a rush though.

Thanks. I thought that but they don't have the Metropolitan in our local store at the moment so I couldn't see it to compare with the Weekender. They didn't have the Get Carried Away either.
