What's a fair punishment for forgetting/losing glasses?

I used to, My ds9 would always lose or break them so the last time I made him pay for the co-pay to get new ones. It was only $30 but he HATED to hand that $ over! Hasn't lost them since...

I think maybe your 11 year old daughter is old enough for contacts now (or in her case a "contact" since she only has a problem in one eye). I have a feeling in her case she just doesn't want to wear glasses because she thinks they make her look like a dork, not cool, nerdy, or whatever they call it these days. Maybe someone made fun of her for wearing glasses (even if she doesn't admit it, it still may have happened).

As far as teaching them responsibility for their glasses, don't just issue empty threats. There must be a consequence.

If they misplace or forget their glasses, I would say no TV/computer/phone/video games until those glasses show up. In other words, they have better things to do than watch TV (or whatever). They have glasses to find!

If the glasses are completely lost, then the child should share in the burden of paying the replacement costs. At least a portion of the costs should be the child's responsibility. Maybe they'll have to do a few more chores around the house to earn the money. ;)
