Whatcha Reading?! =)

I just finished reading the newest Pretty Little Liars book called Twisted. It was really good and I would recommend it to anyone a fan of the books or of the show!

Thank you!!!! All of my friends for some reason love books where there always has to be a hero.
I'm one of those girls who takes offence when a guy says something like, "You know it's polite to give your seat up to a lady!" A member of my family said that didn't want to talk to him afterwards. I said to a woman in my family, "This is the 21st century, where woman are actually considered capable beings, don't push us back to the suffrage!" I also refuse to walk through Morocco when the belly dancer is preforming, as it glorifies the fact that showing off your body and being pretty is more important than being smart or kind and caring! It's stuff like that that gets me annoyed, and books like Twilight don't help.

Speaking of the suffrage, they did all this work to get us where we are, and there still aren't a lot of good stories with strong female characters. How hard can it be? But as a writer, you gotta write what the people want to read. So maybe we just need to change the people's minds.....

I'm glad to have met someone who thinks the same way I do! That is why my favorite book characters are Hermione out of HP and Bluestar from the Warriors series. I can't stand how they make girls so helpless in some books!

Great minds think alike!;)

I LOVE WARRIORS!

I LOVE Hermione too!

I can't stand it either

The reason I can't stand the Twilight saga is that all it does is promotes abusive relationships (Edward's manipulation of Bella) and many other things (Jacob imprinting on Renesmee, anyone?).

Thank you! We're starting a feminist movement here! I find that the following picture relates to our discussion.

I have read books that I believe were kind of like knock offs of Call of the Wild and liked them, however I found Of Mice and Men very prejudicial. I understand that prejudice is a theme of the book, but I don't like how they make it out as though women are the root of everyone's problem.

Getting off of point, does anyone else get annoyed by books that make girls total lumps, like they're unable to do anything? That angers me a lot, which is one of the reasons I love Harry Potter. It had many strong female characters, whereas the Twilight Saga makes Bella seem vulnerable and weak. I mean, what girl in their right mind would do the following...

Edward: Listen Bella, I know you love me, but I'm dangerous.
Bella: I don't care how dangerous you are I want to spent eternity with you
Edward: No seriously I might bite your neck and suck your guts out.
Bella: Okay, bite my neck and take away my soul right now, I'm all for it!

:headache:

Sorry to twilight fans, but that is just my opinion, and I hope it in no way offends or upsets you or makes you think bad of me as a person!

yea. i did find it very prejudicial, and make girls seem stupid and weak. That part did bug me a lot. I hate how in most books girls are always getting left out, made fun of, and seem weak. >:(

My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult it's a bawl fest just like the movie but I typically prefer those types of books honestly.

Thank you JK Rowling for creating books where girls can kick some serious butt! :goodvibes

I feel the gif above represents the situation of girls in modern literature. (heehee I use big words!) :woohoo:
