What your house look like?

Messy, sometimes an acceptable mess and other times I don't want anyone to see it. Right now it's somewhere in between.

House is rather clean amazing but clean
It really is hard work keeping a house clean with kids, pets, & spouses.
But I have been making a massive effort to stay on top of our new house
We did a whole 5 month declutter thing at our old house.

And I really have to say the secret.... sssh don't tell anyone is
to throw everything away don't save it
when you start to save you start to clutter
If everything has a place and everything is in its place
the house will be tidy
This does require an awful amount of time though
I would say I straighten up aka declutter everyother day
making sure counters are not cluttered papers & junk mail gets opened every day and throw out in kitchen. do not take junk mail upstairs. I have purchased alot of organizing tools like baskets to keep things in. cabinets are organized to the fullest.
I try to pick every little thing up as I find it so it's not hundreds of thing.

I am trying to stick to a schedule of washing twice a week, straightening up everyother day, housing cleaning saturdays takes about two hours of both dh & I cleaning. I clean three bathrooms (wipe down sinks, toilets, floors, shower/tubs, mirror, and vacuum rugs). Dh dusts family room and kitchen. I clean microwave, counter, sink, & table. Windows are only once a month. I do kitchen floor while DH vacuums family room. DH dusts & vacuums living room & dining room while I clean down stairs bathroom & laundry room.

Then we head upstairs for hour two - Dh dusts & vacuums spare bedroom while I head into dd bathroom. DH dusts, vacuums, straightens up dd room (she's 7 & helps but this sometimes can take awhile). I strip the beds & wash the sheets & towels. DH dusts & vacuums our bedroom while I clean the masterbath.

Not too bad much better since we moved out of our big old dirty home into a brand new nice modest size house. It's just under 2000 sq feet & perfect for us.

4 kids, beagle that sheds and a messy DH....need I say more.....

I have 1 DH, 1 teenager and 1 90 lb. dog. My sister gave me a plaque that reads "My idea of cleaning is sweeping the room with a glance" Need I say more? I think for a house to be clean, at least 1 person has to be ruthless about not letting junk pile up. Unfortunately there is no one like that living here!:D

Oh yeah!!!! Mess, mess & more mess.....dust, dust & more dust.....:D

DH is always complaining that it looks like a cyclone has hit the place.....but honestly I am not a perfectionist......................:)

I like the place to look clean & tidy, but it never stays that way for more than a day, so why bother trying to keep it that way......:D

I always have a ton of work to do when we have visitors coming, but I just don't like spending my days doing housework all day.....:(

Gotta have some fun in life hey?? :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one with a clean house, thanks to Snoopy and luv2nascar :teeth: I was almost afraid to admit it. LOL

I'm a SAHM though, so its my "job" and really not much work at all (in my opinion, that is. Then again I enjoy vacuuming. lol). I think I have the same clean gene that Snoopy has because even my DSs keep their rooms pretty clean. In all honesty, I don't spend a great deal of time cleaning, because when you start out with a clean organized house, it takes MUCH less work to maintain it, than it does to start from scratch every week or so.

luv2nascar is right, get rid of EVERYTHING that you don't need, and put everything away! My kitchen has NO appliances out on the counters except for a microwave. I hate seeing a toaster, coffee maker, etc out on my kitchen counters. It used to drive DH nuts when we were first married, he thought these appliances should be out at all times... He's used to it now and puts them away automatically :) It takes literally 2 seconds to put an appliance away in the cabinet when you're done with it.

My house, even though its clean and tidy all the time, is still our home and I don't get upset when the boys have friends over and things get pulled out. I know that when the friends leave, the video games, etc, will all get put away again.

LOL - Before I opened this thread, I thought it was going to be a thread of house pictures.
LOL. Me too, but I was going to say "like a tornado hit it" anyway!

Yep, my piles are starting to have a life of their own.

My problems -- I collect junk, I haven't designated a place for everything (I dream of putting labels on the shelves  ), and I'm lazy! (I blame the DIS)

I have dreams of some day hiring a maid :bounce:

I am a rather neat person, so my house is generally cleaned and/or picked up in the morning after everyone leaves and at 8pm when DS goes to bed. But when DS comes home from school at 3:30 and DH from work at 4:30 there is generally a bunch of stuff just thrown around the living room.

:bounce::wave::bounce:

My house looks like..... Oh wait whats that noise? Oh it was nothing.... Just the sound of the daily bomb going off. Sometimes it goes of 5 or 6 times a day!

My house is clean. And, to my amazement, it's been staying clean. But now it's just DD and I so it's relatively easy.

And now I don't have to wash the curtains bi-weekly (the few we had) or vacuum all the furniture and mattresses twice a week or dust like a crazy lady every other day and I haven't vacuumed or dusted the lampshades this month yet (!) because our allergy sufferer isn't here any more.

Heck we went out and bought throw rugs and more curtains...woohooo!!!! :)

Prior to getting married I had a saying "You can't eat off my floor but why should you...isn't that what tables are for?" It's so nice to be able to go back to that way of life. I have lots of time now for playing barbies and crazy eights and yahtzee or just hanging out and my house is still clean.

Life is good.

I am married to the world's worst pack rat. My DH doesn't throw anything out. He has blueprints from jobs that he worked on 18 years ago. He's driving me crazy !!!! It's an impossible job to keep the house neat. Ughh.

Vent over....thank you very much.

When my kids were little, and I was a SAHM, my house was spotless. I made myself crazy keeping it clean. Did my floors on my hands and knees, and the girls never had a toy box. Their toys were always placed neatly on shelves or in containers. I placed my self-worth on how my house and kids looked. I've been working for about 6 years, and I have definately slackened my hold on perfection. I am much happier too, especially after a few years of counseling where I discovered where my self worth is found. My house is clean, but I use a mop (lots of hard wood floors) and I don't dust every single week. My bathrooms and kitchen are always clean, can't let go of that.

My house is now welcoming, but clean. My carpets really need cleaned, though.

It's cluttered. We still have unpacking to do so there are boxes everywhere.

And with 2 dogs, it's a never ending struggle to clean dog hair and pick up dog toys.
But my dining room is spotless :D

Outside's great, inside is really cluttered! I'm having some grass problems too so ignore that.

I could have written this statement, Sea Spray, except even my microwave is not on the counter. I had DH install it under the cabinet, couldn't have it any other way. Same with the coffee maker, underneath the cabinet. I hate stuff on my countertops, and it did take DH a while to get used to it, but after 15 years, he feels the same way now about clutter on the countertop. :) I trained him well. :)

Is this a trick question? Are you going to come and clean up for us?;) My main problem is books and magazines. I'm running out of space for them, and I can't bear to part with any of them either. I normally like a kind of zen, minimalist look but I can't seem to achieve it. :D

I'm surprised to hear that most people here have not so tidy homes. I guess that mine could fall somewhere in between. It's not spotless but we are not living in squalor either.

My mother had this saying, "This house looks like King Kong came to town." I used to crack up laughing when she said that. So as long as my house doesn't look like a 40 foot tall ape ransacked it, I'm okay. :bounce:

Our house is lived in, but presentable. I grew up not being able to sit on the couch...company might come and the pillows had to be just right. We also were not allowed to sit on our beds once we were out of it in the morning. My Mom vacuumed and dusted every day...still does. You could be awaken at 1am to her cleaning. I think this is why I am not as 'into' cleaning as I could be. I also have this thing where I can't just do a general cleaning, floors...counters. I have to clean the closets and the drawers, etc. Needless to say one room can take me an hour, I'm always seeing something that I need to take care of.

My house is always happy on the inside. Don't believe me? Then look:
