Prior to going to Midnight service, we cook our Hopping John and collards:lmao:, that is a tradition thing here and it is very yummy. We use (field peas) some people use Black eye peas, and cook it into the white rice with some turkey pieces or bacon. Then we chow down on it once the corn bread is finished. I'm getting hungry thinking about it.

Oh, the word on the street is the Hopping johns is for good luck and the collard greens represent the money in the New Year. I've been blessed every since too:goodvibes

We are heading to a friend's house for dinner and my contribution is a pesto tortellini salad ~ yum! I have no idea what she's serving so I hope this goes with it...

We eat the same thing every New Years. I almost didn't this year when I saw the prices of produce but you only live once and tradition IMO, you can't pput a price on that.

So, for dinner we have fondue. We do steamed broccoli and califlower, crusty french bread and lil' smokies.

Later in the evening we do chocolate fondue. We have fresh pineapple (my favorite,) strawberries, apples, bananas, pears, grapes, cherries, kiwi, pretzels and marshmellows. I think that is it. I should know I just finsihed chopping everything up. In the past we'd do cheesecake bites, but it was too much. With this we will have virgin daquiris.

I also make a veggie tray that we snack on in between.

Tomorrow will be our last big dessert till DD8's b-day (in 2 weeks. :rotfl: ) We will have all the treats we bought around the WS in EPCOT. We brought back something from every country to enjoy.

Lobster macaroni & cheese
Buffalo chicken dip w/celery & crackers
Crab bread
veggies & dip
cheese & crackers
Assorted cookies & bars

mmmmmmm - sounds good!

Snacky stuff here - we built an ice rink and we have a small get together/open house style:
cheese & crackers
Hummus, olives & pitas
Crudite
Mini meatball subs (on finger rolls)
cocktail shrimp
Kielbasa pieces and mustard to dip in
cookies

My SIL and family stay over tonight, tomorrow AM we have brunch with my IL's and (finally) open xmas presents with them all. Very typical breakfast food (can you tell I am totallt not over extending myself here :rotfl:)
bacon & sausage
Sweet rolls/croix/popovers and jam
some kind of breakfast egg thing - fritatta, omlets, whatever...

NY night just the family, surf and turf with baked stuffed shrimp and bacon wrapped filet mignon with blue cheese crumbles
Sunday i think we are going to do fondue

Then I am going to sleep all week ;)

Am I the only healthy one ?

Our dinner for 3, DH, DW & DS - our DD is going to a NYE's party at a friends house (sleepover for 15 year olds)....

Club soda with a spritz of OJ for flavor in wine glasses for ambience
Shrimp lightly bushed with butter and garlic, then broiled.
Raw cut up carrots, Birdseye steamed veggies (in the micowave)
French bread
Dessert: Baked apples

We also have toy poppers left over from Christmas. The long tube kind with a funny hat, fortune, small toy and confetti inside.

We will watch a movie and then the NYC time square ball drop on TV at midnight.

We ate enough junk at Christmas - I think our bodies need a healthier meal. :rotfl:

We actually don't eat much junk at Chrsitmas. We bake a lot but don't eat that much of it. In fact on Christmas Eve and Christmas we didn't have any dessert. For us New Years is the big splurge night. :woohoo:

I am going simple this year-pot roast with mushrooms, potatoes and carrots in the slow cooker, and an bundt pound cake. I have been cleaning all day, and taking down the tree. Hubby works tonight, so it's just my sons and me. This is the first time that I am optimistic about the New Year since 2006, and I would like to bring it in calm-like...

We are usually home and have a few people over. I always do a buffet of hot and cold appetizers: shrimp, scallops wrapped in bacon, veggie platter with dip, hot taco dip, spinich and artichoke cheese dip, cheese and crackers, sweedish meatballs, stuffed mushrooms etc...
This year we are going to 2 different neighborhood parties and I have no idea what they'll be serving but I'm bringing a few appetizers to one (hot taco dip, shrimp platter) and desserts to the other (candy cane brownies, cheesecake and fresh fruit) . Well also bring wine to both. Should be a fun night!

It sounds kind of boring:

Baked Ham
Homemade Noodles (DH makes these)
Potatoes
Green Beans
Chocolate Cake

Then we are going to the movies.

Happy 2011 everyone! :cool1:

DD, DH and I will eat a nice early dinner of breaded pork chops with steamed broccoli and rice-a-roni at home. Then, we'll head over to my sister's house. We are bringing brie with petite toasts and sliced apples, and baked goat cheese in tomato sauce with crusty french bread. BIL is making buffalo wings. There will chips and dips. Also, we are having a chocolate Brooklyn blackout cake for dessert. I will be drinking Bellinis :cloud9: with my sister. DH and BIL are drinking good Belgian beer :drinking1. It is sort of a free for all as far as food goes. We just make what we like, but rarely have a chance to eat or are willing to spend money on unless it's a special occasion.

We are sleeping there. I might make breakfast in the AM. My sister is having dinner tomorrow afternoon so I will prolly help her after breakfast.

Happy New Year!party:

I hope you all get a little extra pixiedust this year! pixiedust:

We have been getting together with the same 4 families for many years. This year, the big boys (all college freshman) are doing a poker party with 4 girls (2 girlfriends, 2 friends) at one house. The "younger kids" (ages 6-13) are at another house with the "big girls" (age 16) babysitting. My dd (one of the 16 year olds) had a party last night and the other is doing something with friends during the day. They'll play board games, watch videos and play Wii.

Then, the grown ups are having a dinner at my house. A prime rib roast from Costco (everyone sharing in the cost), two appetizers (not sure what), green beans with onions and pecans, salad, potatoes, bread and 2 desserts (cannoli and something else). We'll have wine, beer, mixed drinks and champagne at midnight. It's not an overwhelming dinner to plan, since each family contributes. My only fear is the prime rib. I've only cooked it once, many years ago.

Happy New years!

Our last child free New Year-we are so excited for 2011! Got invited out a few places but hate to be on the roads so are staying home for a fondue night.

The menu is:
shrimp and cocktail sauce
crockpot little smokies
swiss cheese/beer fondue
bread, apples, peppers, broccoli to dip
wanted to do cheesecake for dessert but the last thing we need is a whole cheesecake in the house so I got some frozen cannoli from Trader Joe's. We'll toast the New Year with sparkling cider and some movies and board games.

We always have over a couple neighbors and the in-laws for early hors devours (?sp?) around 8:00 pm. This year I have to work until 6:00 pm so I tried to do a lot of make-ahead stuff. I have a few staples that I make every year but like to change stuff, too. This year it's:

BBQ weiners
Pigs in a blanket
Stuffed mushrooms
Bacon-dates (sounds gross but tastes amazing)
Shrimp and cocktail sauce
Crab and cream cheese dip/crackers
Lobster spread/crackers
Chips and salsa
Focaccia and hummus
Olives
Brownies for dessert (and maybe cookies if I have time when I get home, but I doubt it!)
And plenty of alcohol :dance3:

Fillets, potato augratin, garlic broccoli and salad
Happy New Year everyone!
