What would you say to camping in a tent for 10 days?

We tent camped at FW every year for 10 days for 16 years! It's wonderful! You don't feel like you're "roughing it" at all!

The "comfort stations" are very clean! Every loop has it's own comfort station (some loops have two). They have showers, changing rooms, bathroom stalls, sinks, etc. Next to each comfort station is a laundry room and an ice machine.

You will have a great time tent camping in Fort Wilderness! ::yes::

I just don't know if i can hadle tent camping for that long. Also we will be flying in so I was wondering how a tent would be able to "fly" Or maybe stay 5 days camping and 5 days at a hotel? What do you think? How would I take a tent on a plane?

hmmm...we always drove down from Minnesota. But, I have heard others here talk about flying with tents. Maybe somebody else can help a little more.

I think it would be hard to fly down and camp for that long. We always had a screen tent, air mattresses, pillows & blankets, fans, coolers, etc, etc.

I think if you were only going to camp for a night or two, you would be ok - but for 5 or 10 nights, it might be really hard with only a tent.

I have tent camped and flown. It is possible. As a solo person I brought the following within airline allowances. If there is more than one person it is much easier as your luggage allowance increases with each person.

1 10x10 tent (this is what I slept in)
1 7x7 tent (this is where I stored my gear)
1 10x12 rain/sun shelter
1 folding bag chair
1 folding stool
twin size air mattress
electric pump for air mattress
battery operated coleman lantern
flashlight
sheets/pillow/blanket
two power strips
two forty foot extension cords
small 9 inch fan
cell phone
charger
laptop and accessories
digital camera and docking station
normal disney clothing + decent in public sleepwear
daypack with toiletries to carry to comfort station
small bottle of laundry detergent
several dryer sheets in ziploc bag
shower shoes
plastic sheeting for groundcloth
a plastic tablecloth for picnic table.
Towels/washcloths
Clothesline
Collapsible cooler
Package of Cable Ties for extension cord management
Laundry sack.
A case of sodas distributed in small areas throughout my luggage.

The camping gear fits in two Sterilite bins that I have attached a strap to to keep the lid on, but the airlines can open them easily. They are the maximum size the airlines will allow.

My clothing fits in a carry on size suitcase and then my computer bag also comes with me as a carry-on.

I kept the computer locked up at the desk at the reception outpost, and dropped by there a couple times during the week to download pictures and check email.

I don't cook when I tent camp at Ft. Wilderness, so things like a grill or charcoal or food is not necessary for me.

I also washed clothing every evening. Since the washers/dryers are right at the comfort station, it is easy. I would drop by and start the washer, then went to my shower, then after my shower, I would rotate the laundry to the dryer, then go back to my campsite (very close to the comfort station) and read a bit and call home, then go get the clothes out of the dryer. That way I brought very little clothing with me.

I hope this helps. I LOVE tent camping at Ft. Wilderness.

Unfortunately, I won't be doing that this December as they didn't discount the campground and I can get a Value resort for only a few dollars more each night.

IMHO, with kids it would be total he-double hockey sticks!! This is why we got a camper; couldn't hack it with our youngest! If it is adults only and not scorching, then it would probably be fine (providing you have a comfy bed!)

I flew and tent camped last year and will do this back leaving tomorrow for 3 weeks. I am going solo and wouldn't do it with kids.

As mentioned, the Comfort Stations are great.

Time of year is BIG factor. Heat and humidity can be a bummer.

Why not 50/50 if possible. Start with camping and finish in a resort. Pamper yourself, you deserve it.

We camped for 7 nights last year in a tent and I think that would be my limit. The comfort stations are very nice but it's not the same.

One word for you - NO!!!!!

Camping in a 5th wheel is as roughing it as I get, but then my husband says I'm high maintenence???princess:
