What would you recommend? Scooter transportation.

Hi All!

We are a party of 6 staying at the POP century and traveling from WDW to Universal one day and Seaworld the next. My mother has very bad knees and we have reserved a Power Victory 10 scooter from Apple for our entire stay.

My question is, what is the best way to travel from WDW to the other theme parks?
Is there a van service you would recommend or would we be better off renting a mini-van?

I believe that there are Mears buses that go to those places. You could also rent a taxi or two, or rent a car. The issue you might have is with the size of your scooter.

The one that you are renting is of a larger size. I am not sure if when you rent a mini van whether there would be enough room for all of you and the scooter when it is broken down. That captains seat on the scooter is going to take up a lot of real estate on its own, plus the larger deck and rear wheel sections. It is also a heavier scooter than say the other one that Apple rents, the GO-Go Elite Traveler Plus. You might need to rent 2 vehicles in order to fit everyone and the scooter.

I am just curious why you chose that scooter? Is it because the weight of the person using it requires a heavier duty scooter, or was it the seat? If the person does not need the heavier scooter due to their weight, then I suggest switching to the next size down scooter. It will fit better in the mini van if you rent one.

If you chose that scooter due to the miles it can go on a charge, I would still go with the next step down from the one you have rented. I have the Go-Go Elite Traveler Plus scooter as my own personal scooter and it will last a full day in the parks and then some with no issue as long as I charge it each night.

The smaller scooter will work better for everything including the parks and all transportation.

Another idea will be for others to hold parts of the scooter on their laps if the bigger scooter won't fit. This would be awkward, but probably doable. Make sure the base of the unit will fit in the back.

we chose that scooter because of the battery life. We wanted to make sure we weren't going to have battery issues in the parks. Are you saying that a smaller scooter would not have battery problems? Does Apple have one like that?

I think we will just take MEARS transportation...it seems like a better deal with less hassle.

That is correct. If you went with Apple's Go-Go Traveler Elite scooter, you will be just fine. I know this from personal experience, that is the scooter that I have as my own personal one, and have not had any issues with it lasting all day at the parks as long as it charged each night.

If you don't need the scooter for the issues of the person who is riding it's weight, then I recommend switching to the Traveler Elite scooter. It will be a lot easier to transport and maneuver.

works for most people at Disney World. You do have to show due care like turning off the scooter when you watch a show, parade, and fireworks. It might help to turn it off in long ride lines, too. This will conserve your battery power. Also, you need to watch your battery gauge to make sure you are not depleting your charge to a bad point. We take the charger to the park to play it safe. You can't forget to charge the battery every night, too. We have not had any issues with the smaller scooter.

The larger scooter will be bigger and it has two batteries; so, it's much more forgiving if you forget the steps listed above. It has a better seat, too. They are more comfortable. The hassle with them is that they are heavier and bigger. It will be harder on and off the buses with the larger scooter at least in our experience. It definitely helps to have two people with taking the larger scooter in and out of a car. In and out of your room is harder with a bigger scooter.

We prefer the smaller scooter. We have done both of them.

My personal scooter is a Pride Go-Go Elite Traveller Plus. As long as you charge every night, it should have not problem. I have only had difficulty with mine one time, and that was on late night EMH. It started running down at about 2 am, after 16 hours in the park. By the time I got back to the bus, it still ran on the straight, but my friend had to give a push to help it up the ramp. But it should handle 10 or 12 hours no problem -- the rental scooters typically have the heavy duty batteries for just this concern. Just make sure you turn it off any time you aren't driving, such as shows, meals, or parades.

If you are worried, take the charger with you. If you are running low, a CM will be able to help you find a place to plug in for a bit. They re-charge pretty fast, so even plugging in for 30-60 min while you eat can give you a second wind, even though it won't charge up all the way.

thanks everyone for your suggestions. after bringing them to my mom today, she decided to go with the power victory 10 because she doesn't want to have to worry about plugging it in during the day.

I also think we are going to go with the MEARS shuttle service to get to an from the other theme parks. $18 round trip can't be beat!
