I'd name a gray cat Smoky and a black cat Sooty.

I had a black cat that I had named Familiar (as in a witches familiar) and got lots of questions about her name. I also had a friend who got a black kitten and we were going back and forth trying to think of a name and I suggested Darth and it stuck.
