What would you like to see on the new ships?

I'd just like to see them sail out of Jacksonville and Charleston.

Weak cruise ports for embarkation and debark won't happen sorry. But the thread is what do you want to see on the new ships. I would want them to sail out of New Jersey but of course it won't happen.

A steakhouse type speciality restaurant. Palo is great, but I think Palo and Remy are a little too fancy for some people's tastes.
I agree with this. I really hope Disney takes note of what other cruise lines are doing - offering a wide variety of dining options, from a casual buffet or sports bar atmosphere to upscale venues. It has always baffled me that Disney converts Cabanas to a table service restaurant at night, serving mostly the same food you would get in the MDR. It just seems odd. I would also be completely onboard with them offering more ethnic restaurants as was mentioned by a PP. Variety is the spice of life!

I also agree with all of the calls for more adult venues. If you have only sailed during school breaks out of Port Canaveral you might not understand why anyone would ask for that, thinking most passengers had kids with them (though even then it's good to get away on your own sometimes). But trust me, take an off season cruise (or even in season to a colder climate) and the adult spaces can be packed!!! Our last two cruises had many, many adult only groups on board. The adult spaces were full every night, often turning people away.

One other thing I will add is that I hope Disney doesn't tie both of the new ships to Port Canaveral as they did when the Dream and Fantasy joined the fleet. Please, please send at least one new ship somewhere different and interesting!!

I agree, other lines have a lot of variety when it comes to food choices. Not to say Disney food isn't good. Although I wasn't that impresssed by the desserts and I love sweets.

More Adult activities would be great.

I feel like the newer ships would go to Canaveral and one of the older ships would go to another port. But you never know! Either way it's very exciting. Hoping to sail on on the new ships when they launch especially since WDW's 50th anniversary is also in 2021.

The new Crown and Fin venue on the Wonder is AMAZING (family until 9 and then adult only after) and I'd like to see similar spots to gather and relax. There were game tables where we played cards and very comfy leather chairs.

I'd like a few older teen/adult activities (ropes courses, rock walls, surf simulators).

I think a play area for kids under 4 or 5. Kids under 3 don't really have a play spot (except the little are they've set up in Promonade) and I think 3-5 sometimes get overwhelmed in the Clubs so a nice little early child play area for families would be great.

Two weeks ago at the Castaway Reception the Captain did say the design for the new ships is already underway so not too early to think about it at all.

After recently sailing on the Carnival Magic (I posted a review) the one thing that ship had that I miss on DCL is the big adult deck with the big round lounger beds and hammocks. I had a few nice quiet naps up there. So peaceful and relaxing. I know part of cruising is being around kids having fun, but I loved having that place to completely getaway from the waterslide screams and squeals when I wanted.

I also would like to see a buffet that stays as a buffet all day, and does not convert to a dinner meal. Sometimes we are feeling lazy and if it is not a show night in dining room, we would rather go pick at the buffet. That was another plus on Carnival when we were on a long day and tired, we napped after we got back from shore, then went hit the buffet around 8pm in our shorts and tops, didn't have to worry about getting dressed for dinner. Sometimes you just don't feel like it!
Other than that, Carnival pretty much sucked. LOL

Oh.... and extended balconies- where you have more balconies like the new ones coming out - your main seating and table is covered, but then the balcony juts out and has 2 loungers right in the direct sunlight! Private sunbathing would be awesome! And put these on a good half of the balcony cabins!

1. Maintain the DCL style- don't succumb to pressure to turn these beautiful ships into floating malls like those on the other lines.
  • Keep the old-fashioned charm of the dinner experiences by not adding casual steakhouses & fast food outlets to compete with the MDRs. You can already get steak in the MDRs, and fast food on the pool deck.
  • Revert to the only recently removed cruise casual dress code in the MDRs.
  • Create an elegant upcharge restaurant that welcomes properly dressed kids over 10.
  • Allow people to simply pay extra to guarantee a private table, rather than have to board early, line up first thing at dining changes, and beg.
2. Maintain DCL's commitment to adult cruisers by:
  • Not making adult areas bigger, but placing them in a way that allows them to be truly exclusive to adults- no kid walkthroughs needed or allowed.
  • Having newly released R-rated movies available in one of the theaters each night.
  • Host some historical or cultural talks about the ports- one per cruise at least
  • Host adult-only behind-the-scenes tours of the ships
  • Host a good improv group to perform on each cruise

3. Maintain the DCL fun by making more activities available:
  • More game shows
  • More self-scheduled games like scavenger hunts & mysteries to solve
  • A panic room
  • Longer hours at all of the water-enjoyment areas
  • Reservation-based cooking classes during which guests can actually cook & eat

Panic room? What's that?
It's where your group is placed in a room that is pretend-locked, and you have to use a series of clues & props placed around the room to figure out the code to unlock the door and get out within a set amount of time. A lot of fun and a good bonding activity, & naturally you're never really locked in. They can be themed in an endless variety of ways.

Huh! So it's kind of like a murder mystery of the 90s... role playing, but solving a mystery; in this case, how to save yourself, not catch a murderer. :-)
