On my commute home from work yesterday, I was traveling along at my usual 55 mph in a 45 zone. As I came to an on-ramp, I noticed a state trooper that needed to merge. I could not move over as there was a car beside me; if I slowed down or stayed at the same speed, I would impede the trooper's ability to merge. . .so, I speeded up!

I very quickly decided that even if I got pulled over and given a speeding ticket, I was still doing the right thing (not by speeding in the first place, but by doing what I could so the trooper could merge effortlessly).

What would you have done?

(he followed me for several miles but never pulled me over :hyper: )

I probably would have done the same thing unless slowing down would have worked which in this case would not. State Troopers are human too and he most likely understood what you were doing.

I'd say you did the right thing. You were trying to help an officer of the law - that's gotta count for something, right?? ::yes::

I would have slowed down to avoid a ticket..
it is the responsibility of the person merging into traffic to adjust their speed so they can safely merge..

I'm not sure a majority of law enforcement officers would think that breaking the law to assist them is justifiable...,,

but I tend to err on the side of caution and the side of not paying a fine and getting points...LOL

i would have slowed down (because it's just a habit whenever i see a cop), but if i was the trooper, i wouldn't have given you a ticket. :)

I was in a very similar scenerio once. As I was coming out of a consrtuction zone, I saw a car flying up behind me. As there was a car right next to me and I was in the left lane I accelerated to get out of this persons way. I looked again to see what the other car was doing and that is when he turned on his lights! It was an unmarked state trooper!! He told me that he had pulled me over for speeding and also following too close for construction traffic, huh? Before he could actually write the ticketts, he got called to an accident scene, so all I got was a verbal warning. So, needless to say, my advice is to never speed up to get out of a officers way, you just don't know what he will do, and speeding is speeding, no matter why you are doing it.
