What would you do?

Been planning a big family trip for summer next year. I have 292 points for 2020 (82 banked from 19) and another 210 coming in 8/2021 that I was going to borrow. In fact we bought another 50 points last fall just for this plan.
Last I heard I could only use 105 of those borrowed points, if that is still a thing. This was for DH and I, all my kids, their significant others, and my 2 grands ( would be 4 and 2). One son-in-law iffy because he is a Marine and can't plan far ahead.
My oldest (the Marine wife) just admitted she'd rather not even go to WDW next year with all of this stuff going on, reserving parks, etc. The other two would probably agree.
So here are my options:
1) hope to get Vero at 7 months for everyone and still take a "Disney" vacation (plus never been to Vero). Without SIL could probably squeeze into a 2BR, maybe with a studio for part of the stay since middle child can't take a whole week off.
2) rent out the 2020 points and use $ to go somewhere non-Disney. Has to be in the states because DH is on home dialysis and I don't want to ship the supplies to Jamaica or something (though I'd love to go there, we will have to wait until he gets a kidney down the road). A beach somewhere...Anna Maria maybe? Key West?
3) try for Vero and then rent out the points if I can't get it, but wait until that point.
Thoughts?

We went to Vero for two nights. That was plenty for us. Not sure if I’d want to spend a week there. If it were me, I’d rent my points, and plan a non-disney vacation sometime next summer when you know the situation better. I would check out AirBnBs near beaches that interest you. My favorite is Hampton Beach, NH.

Disney will always be there, and it would be more fun for the kids if it was the real Disney not a watered down character unhuggable watered down disney.

If it was me...
I would try and rent the 82 banked points from '19.
bank my '20 points and try to plan a family trip the following year.
Even if they still have the 50% borrow limit then, you would have more points to use than this time around. And who knows, that restriction might be lifted by then.
And with another year gone by, Family might be more willing to go.

One final option would be to deposit points to RCI and look for a non-Disney beach or other location. The downside is that once deposited to RCI, you can’t get those points back to use at DVC resorts. So that would be the last option I’d choose.

I agree with Disney Regulars. I stayed at Vero Beach pre-cruise a few years back. Not much to do, once you have walked the beach, visited the pool. Must admit, I am not a beach person to begin with.

I think davper had a good idea but I wanted to add that last January DH and I stayed at VB for a week and LOVED it. We drove around the area one day to see what there was to do, it's sort of a sleepy area but very nice. At the resort itself they have daily activities for the kiddos and mini golf plus the pool w/slide and beach/ocean. Now it was just DH and I but we were thinking it would be a nice place for the rest of family to spend some time. Very relaxing and I thought there were things for the kids to do. Kids can be happy anywhere there is water to play in and the mini golf looked fun.

Whatever you decide I hope you have a good family vacation. :tink:

Do you need to drive? From where? I assume Hawaii is out? We love dvc Hilton Head. Maybe consider that? However, June-mid aug is very hard to book DVC HHI. It's not too difficult to get summer HHI (non-DVC) via RCI if you book a year out. There's lots to do there and riding bikes is very fun. There have been prior discussion on DVC HHI vs. Vero beach. Even at non-DVC HHI, the analysis would be similar. We've had several multi-generational trips to HHI at DVC and also non-DVC and had excellent trips.

We spent a few days in one of the cottages. It was great for a relaxing trip with an ocean view.

I'm in the same situation (roughly the same family scenario) and we were going to go on our big trip in December. Because of the borrowing, it was down to only 6 nights from the original 9. I just cancelled yesterday because my kids don't want to risk it without a vaccine. I have 200 banked from 2019 that need to be used by May 2021. I'm thinking of trying to just use the 200 at HH and banking 2020 points to try our trip in 2021, hopefully.

But I can't book for HH yet so, in the meantime, I'm going to book a 2 bedroom for Jan/Feb in WDW using 2019 points and maybe some 2020, hoping that maybe one son, wife, 4 1/2 year old (at that time) and another son may join if the virus seems somewhat under control and they don't care about going on all the rides or staying up late to see fireworks, anyway. And then could go fall 2021 with the other son, wife and 2 kids (5 and 1 at that time) in a 2 bdrm - if things are more back to "normal" as they don't want to go to WDW with partial experience/restrictions going on. ... just thinking that it may be less stress thinking about germs if we split the famlies, since each has their own idea about keeping safe. Then, maybe we can do our all-together in 2023. We did one in 2017 when the 2 grandkids were 1. They are excited about going again and not sure how they would feel knowing the other one is there without them..

DH and I have unused APs in our MDE, so the two trips in one year could work okay for that. No one else has tickets yet.

It's so hard to plan when no one knows anything.

We don't drive, and the younger two won't be driving, but the oldest and the grands will (they live in Pensacola). My flights will be paid for because I've canceled one WDW flight and one Pensacola flight already for this summer and have credit on Delta and Southwest.
I need to start playing around with the numbers!
