What would you do?

Last Sunday, I'm fairly certain I left my brand new prescription eyeglasses ($600 out of pocket) on the monorail from MK to Epcot (I was wearing my prescription sunglasses at the time). All I know for certain is that when we got back to the car I realized that I didn't have them.

I've been to lost and found at MK twice, filled out the necessary paperwork twice, and my glasses have not been returned.

Discover card (which was used to purchase the glasses) covers damaged or stolen merchandise up to $500 but the claim has to be submitted with a police report. Several people I've spoken with have encouraged me to file a police report, but I don't feel like it's the "right" thing to do. I most likely sat them down and forgot to pick them back up, but I'm not 100% certain on that either, perhaps someone else did pick them up? Or perhaps I lost them all together.

I'm just sick about it, $600 glasses, and they were brand new. Should I file a police report and submit the claim? Or accept that I was careless and lost them? What would you do?

I wouldn't file a police report for something that I had lost.

Maybe for your next pair, get the chain that goes around your neck.

Does it cover "lost" items (the insurance)? If it doesn't, I personally would chalk it up to bad luck and let it go.

I would not file a police report over a missing item. They weren't "stolen," and indeed it is about the LAST thing someone would steal because they are prescription lenses and chances that they work for someone else are practically nil (might be different with designer sunglasses, where someone might steal them without realizing they were prescription lenses).

I'm sorry you lost your glasses. It's exactly the kind of thing I would do. I wouldn't give up on someone turning them in. You might still get them back.

I'm a rule bender, but I would also not file a police report over a lost item.

Absolutely not! That's fraudulent and criminal, and it could cause more problems than being out $600.

Give it a few more days and stay in touch with WDW. I bet you'll get them back. We have under similar circumstances.

They weren't stolen so no, I would not report it to the police. It's unfortunate, but we've all done careless things and kicked ourselves for it.

According to the WDW website, items found on the monorails (and watercraft) at the end of the day are turned in to Lost and Found at the TTC. So they could be there, or another guest could have picked them up and turned them in elsewhere- MK, Epcot, or one of the hotels, who knows? It also says that valuable items such as prescription glasses are held for 90 days, so you still have a chance of getting them back. I'd call the main Lost and Found number so they can check all locations on property. You might want to send them a closeup photo of you wearing them as identification.

I'd accept the fact I lost a $600 pair of glasses. No way would I file a police report for something that wasn't stolen.

Thank you, unfortunately they were so new I don't even have any pictures. I'll keep checking with Disney.

Can you get a picture from the website of the vendor/manufacturer at least? Anything like that would help Lost and Found narrow down which pair might be yours and increase the chances of you getting them back if they are there.

I'd double check with discover to see if they also cover loss. It's often really hard to determine whether something was lost or stolen when something isn't turned in to lost and found. You can file a police report for lost property and be truthful by saying they are missing.

I had to do that for a company cell phone and I was honest about the last place I had the phone and that I discovered it gone and didn't know how it happened. In my jurisdiction you can even file a police report electronically for items under $1000. It was easy for me to complete the report and submit it to my company.

Good idea, tks.

True, I'll look into this. Tks
