I have an opportunity to take a b-day vacation for my 2 year old daughter.

January 20-25 ...1 bedroom Old Key West 700.00 5 night stay. (it is a rental from an aquaintance)
Kids would have to miss school (3 days)...1st grade and preschool.

Would you go?

I have never stayed at Old Key West, I like the Boardwalk area the best...am open to new hotel experiences.

Weather is really iffy that time of year...and we would only do parks for 1/2 of the day (maybe). Crowds???

We go to Disney often, so it would not be a once in a lifetime deal...money can be there, it might be a bit of a stretch.

Opinions?? Thoughts??

Thanks...
Carrie

I would *totally* do it!

I've never stayed at OKW, so I can't comment on that aspect of your trip. However, crowd levels during that time should be quite low (easywdw has your dates at 2s), and while the weather can be cold, can't be any worse than where you're coming from, right? ;) And low crowd levels means you can a lot done even in just 1/2 day in the parks. :thumbsup2

As for school, we're pulling our kid out of kindy for 3 days next week. You might want to run it by the teacher first just to make sure he/she doesn't think it would be a problem, but I think at that age it's not a huge deal (assuming they're not otherwise missing a ton of school).

I was leaning towards it...I guess I needed some encouragement from someone out there... :)

GOOOO!!! Dont worry about 3 days of school at that age. We pulled our daughter out for a week every september for years. It didn't ever cause a problem untill middle school- then I wouldn't even attempt it.

Absolutely go, I have stayed at OKW and it is a lovely resort. I heard that it has recently been updated too. The pool is great for kids! Another plus is that it has a boat that travels to downtown disney where there are lots of shops and restaurants. You will have a great time there - it is so relaxing. If you drive, there is parking right outside your room, but if you don't drive, the buses are good too.

We stayed at OKW last November and LOVED the resort. Our kids ages 8 and 4 didn't want to go to the parks, they wanted to swim and hang out in the community room. As another poster stated, it was wonderful parking right outside your door when you came in from the park.

As far as worrying about taking your kids out of school, talk to the teachers, and let them know ahead of time. We have another trip planned in two weeks  and are taking our son out of school for the third year in a row. He makes straight A's, so it doesn't affect his school work being out of school.

Dont sweat about missing school at that age......when they get older it will be harder to do

I would go! I think OKW and it's theme would be a great change from the snow!

Yup.

I'm pulling my dd out for five days in late January, for a birthday trip for her. Second grade.

offically booked today WHOO HOO!!!

Whoo! Go and have a great time! I have pulled my son out of school 2 to 3 days at a time for various vacations. This year he is 4th grade and will miss two school days. I say until they get older and have final exams or something of that sort don't worry about it! They can always make up the work once they get back or do it before hand. Enjoy!

You will be so glad you made the choice to go. OKW is a great resort and the 1 bedrooms are wonderful. Have a great trip!!! :thumbsup2
