Due to some financial circumstances, I MAY have to cancel both of our Disney trips this year. :sad2: Since 2011 is Disney's 40th celebration, my sister said ther MUST be a big celebration and wants to go. So does my BFF. Both of them have 4 kids each. :scared1: It'll be a big celebration alright! :rotfl2:

Anyway, here's my dilemma. When we went in March, DS was only 5 months so he was a lap baby and by God's good graces he slept during both flights! We're planning March 2011 which will put him at 2. Technically, I think he could still be considered a lap baby. I saw a TON of lap babies that looked like they could have been 3 or 4 when we went in March! Should I even deal with this or buy him his very own seat? He's a little rambunctious now so I can only imagine what he will be like a year from now! I plan on brining our portable DVD player which keeps him quiet at home and hoping it will do the same on the plane.

What would you do?

You know your kids best. Do what you are comfortable with. If $ is really that tight and buying a ticket will make it or break it, maybe you could cut back other places.

OOOOOHHH that was my 100th POST!!:cheer2:

I have 2 children (ages 5,6,7) and have flown with all of them since 2 years old. You have time to save for it - buy the seat. Flying with a 2 year old on your lap is tough. I would never try it. If I recall right - the lap child rule is for children UNDER 2 years old.

I would buy a seat. We've always bought our kids their own seats even before their 2nd bday. I just can't imagine holding either of my kids for an entire flight.

I am pretty sure you have to show birth certificate if you are flying with an under 2 lap baby.

I also agree, I would buy the seat as well at two there is so much going on in their little minds and wiggling in full swing. If you can save for it now, a seat for your DS is probably best for both of you. Good luck!

Yeah I guess I'll factor it into costs. We'll definitely be doing SW again since their seats seem to be the cheapest! LOL It's just that I have SO much planning since I'm the Disney nut amongst all of us and I guess I was thinking of ways to cut costs. My cheap side was showing....sorry! LOL

You are correct as I had to show mine in March but believe me, there were more than a few lap babies who were BIG! I had to question if it was just me that thought they were too big or what!

I always flew with my kids as lap kids as long as possible and never had a problem BUT once they are 2 you have to buy a seat it isn't up to you.
You will have to show a birth certificate before you can get your boarding pass. They give no grace if your child turns 2 in the middle of the trip you will have to buy a return ticket. If you are traveling on Southwest they are the most insistent on seeing a birth certificate. I had to show one for my 6 week old son,yes 6 weeks old! Also if you flew once with your child on an airline it will be in their system how old the child is so they will automatically know they are over 2.

Think of all the money you're putting into this vacation on things that ultimately don't matter.

Then picture hitting some rough turbulance.

Spend the money on a ticket for your son. His safety, and your peace of mind, make it a bargain at any price.

You have to buy the seat and it does come in handy. I learned how to change diapers while flying from CA with my 2.5 yo DD. Also, gotta say her big sisters Ipod came in handy with Scooby Doo and P & F cartoons for her to watch.

First off, I hope you don't have to cancle your trips and if you do just think, it will make the next trip even more special:hug:

I think all of those things are up to you. If you think you can handle holding your son the whole plane ride then I'd say do it.

i bought a seat for my 2 year old. you'll appreciate the "extra" space..trust me.

I buy gummy fish, gummy worms, and pretzels for the flight. buy new toys (from the $1 store) that the children have not seen before and bring them out on the flight. little note pads they can scribble in whatever, be creative.

regardless, the next trip will be a blast! it will be so much easier going on vacation when the baby is a little bit bigger. i did not go on (real) vacations for about 4 years ...my older two were 20 months apart and it was just too much with them both in diapers but once they were 4 & 2 we were better off and they lasted a flight from PA to Arizona! there is no way I could have done that any sooner then the youngest being 2....if it makes you feel any better...I think that you are doing the right thing!
