My friend and I are going to Walt Disney World in September 2010. We have a transportation question. If you had a choice, would you:

1) Stay at a Value resort and rent a car

or

2) Stay at a Moderate resort and take the WDW transportation to and from parks

Some background on us: We are not travelling with children and like our accommodations to be relatively quiet at night - we are both "old" and need our sleep ;)

I would stay at a moderate before a value, especially if prefer a more quiet experience, but really exterior corridors of values and moderates is a big negative when it comes to "quiet" and people hanging out on them.

Without a doubt, I would pick the moderate. Values have a lot more families with small children and are a lot louder.

Stay in the moderate and enjoy the Disney transportation. It rocks!!! Why stay in a value just for a rental car, most likely you'd find out you wouldn't really use it. Plus the moderates are a significant step up in accommadations...

Good luck with your decision!!!

Thanks everyone for the advice.

I had heard bad things about the Disney Transportation system so I was a little worried, but I think I will stick with the moderate resort and take a chance on the buses.

Depending on when you are staying the busses are not bad at a value!

We loved the bus system. Hubby and I didn't have to squabble over who had to drive when we were both tired. The waits aren't bad, our only grumblespots were trying to catch the bus back to the resort at park closing. We had to wait for the second or third if we left after the fireworks, which, on sore feet... ow. However, if you time things better than we did, you'd likely be just fine.

I'd stay at POP and skip the rental car. Use the savings to pay for a romantic dinner. Bus service at POP is great.

There isn't a huge difference between a moderate and value. Both have exterior corridors. Moderates have better theming and slightly larger rooms. Moderates also offer a coffee maker/fridge. JMO but not really worth the price difference.

Price AKL and WL. Both have interior corridors. Not as noisy. Almost all rooms have a balcony/patio. Are you staying a week? Split your stay between AKL or WL and POP. Do the numbers so you stay within your budget.

By the way... If you're going while they're offering the free dining plan at the Moderate level resorts, it can work out to a significant savings. If you haven't considered the dining plans, look into them, hubby and I swear by the basic plan. One snack, one counter service, and one table service meal per day of your tickets... Makes a big difference to the pocketbook if that's free, you can spend more on toys.

If you would like a nice quiet resort, look into the Port Orleans French Quarter. It is one of the smallest resorts on property and it is beautiful. They offer boat rides to Downtown Disney and the WDW busses stop at POFQ first.
