I want to eat breakfast at Kona when we go to WDW.
Here is the dilemma - my dad won this trip through Alamo and we just got all the final details last week. Our trip is May 20-24. We knew the dates about a month ago but we know a few more details now but not all. We know we get a celebration dinner - but we don't know when or where. We will get our itinerary when we check in. I told my mom to ask about making other ADRs and the woman told her we could make them after we arrive - we can do it at the GF after we get our itinerary.:confused3
SO I m nervous we won't get any other ADRs b/c we are waiting. I want to call and atleast make a breakfast ADR at Kona but IDK if I can w/o a trip confirmation number.
What would you do - just wait til you get there and not worry about it, or call and try to get an ADR?

I think I would go a head and try to make ADR's if you can. I would just give them the name on the reservation and tell them you do not have a confirmation # yet. Tell them the resort you are staying at. I just made ADR's for my DD this morning and had some trouble getting some. The sooner you book some the better. You can always call and cancel them once you get there if they interfere with the itinerary that is set up for you.

Don't know if they're still doing it this year, but as of last Aug. you didn't need to be a resort guest to make ADR's. You just had to provide a cc#, which was charged only if you didn't show up for your ressie.

I'm fairly certain you never had to be a resort guest to make ADR's, just that you could not do the 90+10 or 180+10, and you only need to give your credit card # for a select few locations.

OP - I would make an ADR for Kona for the day you want just to be sure. Either tell them you are not staying onsite or tell them your name & # and they may be able to pull it up for you.

And how cool that you all won a trip!!!

We went down in January and didn't stay on Disney property. I called 3 months ahead of time and got an ADR at Cali Grill with no problem. Like the previous poster stated, you just have to give them a cc# and they will charge you if you don't show up or cancel within the set time.

Make ADRs for some places you would like. You can cancel the one that interferes with your celebration dinner. You do not need to be a Disney Resort guest to make an ADR so you do not need a reservation number.

thanks for the advice everyone
I called and the CM I spoke to was so nice. I told her the situation and she got me an ADR for Friday 5/22 at the Kona Cafe at 7:35 am. That is the only ADR I made. Hopefully after we find out when our dinner is we can get in a few other places for dinner the other nights.

The cc is only required for a handful of places. Most you don't have to give them a cc #, even if you are staying offsite.

I know ADR's are the surest thing, but we have eaten at Kona's a handful of times without a reservation, minimal to no wait.

Have a great trip! :)

I'd suggest going ahead and making ADRs for everything you want to do. Then, simply cancel the ADR(s) that conflict with the "contest winner' schedule.

As noted, I'd avoid making ADRs for places that require credit card holds or pre-payment (California Grill, Akerhaus, CRT, dinner shows), at least on the first couple of days of the trip -- check the cancellation policies to be sure, but a 48-hour cancellation will likely be good enough in the CC hold cases.
