What would you do?

to get his attention she thumped or should I say punched him on top of the head and then shouted "up or down make your mind up"

that's too :rotfl2:

Most airline seats are made to recline, therefore people do have the right to recline them, although it can seem inconsiderate at times (notably for meals - I think it should be up to the cabin crew to ensure all seats are upright for meal service). To my mind, if you are seriously uncomfortable, you should have the right to ask someone to give you a bit more room. I personally always ask the person behind me if they mind if I recline my seat (especially on the return night flight) and have yet to have anyone say they do mind.

The bottom line is that many charter operators try to squeeze more people in than is generally comfortably, but there are exceptions, notably the new First Choice planes. So, if seat pitch is likely to be an issue for you, it is worth looking up the better operators in this area.

We find that people can be inconsiderate in a thousand different ways, but there are few that have any real impact on our holiday, so we try to put them out of our mind.

This remains a valid debate, but let's keep it respectful of everyone's rights to recline or not, as the case may be.

The only time I have ever had a real problem out of countless flights was on a flight to Orlando when the seat in front reclined at the earliest opportunity no problem I don't really care but when the meal came the cabin crew asked her to put it up just until the food finished as I was in the back row and unable to recline but she refused, I am ashamed to admit after the meal after I had to limbo dance up to get to the toilet, I twanged and shook her chair she shot forward like a crash test dummy, on my way back did the same again,I am sorry but it made me laugh and she then put her chair up a few inches.
Unfortunately it is impossible to get out of your seat without jarring the people in the row in front of you if they are fully reclined. You can try to minimise the disturbance............or not.

I personally feel the people who should take responsibility for this are the airlines, however one would argue that we want cheap flights....

The solution is surely that the airlines restrict how far the seats go back, my husband is 6ft 2 and we have simply had to resort to going PE with Virgin to accomdate, yes its more expensive, yes it means we cannot go as a result to the US quite as often as we would like but that is the choice we have made and quite honestly it means we start our holidays a little less stressed.

Unfortunately airlines cannot guarantee the extra leg room in economy (however I do like the extra leg room section on long haul flights with First Choice - yes you pay a bit more but surely its worth it!?)

Stop the recliners!!!...http://www.kneedefender.com/

One selfish act deserves another. Just because economy seats can recline doesn't mean you have to.

I've seen these before and wondered if it was a joke.. I imagine they'd be confiscated on a flight if a member of cabin crew found someone was using them!
