Background: I am a homeschooling mom of four children who has reached the typical mid-year burn-out and blues that go along with trying (sometimes seemingly unsuccessfully) to improve and train four children. I commented frequently to DH my desire to get away (having no idea of what he would do)! My birthday was Feb 6 (I share my bday with Ronald Reagan and Babe Ruth
).
BIRTHDAY MAGIC!!
I was surprised and thrilled beyond expression on Saturday (2/4) at a bday dinner out with DH--He gave me a WDW ticket saying "You will spend your birthday at MK." --my favorite place on earth! I couldn't believe it! A dream come true. I truly have the best DH in the world.
When we came home DD13 had packed my bags for me. The next day I was on a plane to Orlando (I live in TX). He had me staying at the Radisson. He had reserved a rental w/Enterprise. At Enterprise the gentleman at the counter upgraded me free of charge to a convertible in honor of my birthday. I got to the Raisson in only 30 minutes--in time to catch the second half of the Super Bowl at the lobby party. I am originally from PA and normally an Eagles fan but was cheering for the Steelers in their place. Another birthday treat awaited me by sitting w/Steeler fans who bought me a drink in honor of my bday and then by the Steelers winning for my bday!
I was at rope drop the next morning (and closed the park, being on the last ferry out). Of course I'm sure I looked ridiculous because I was alternating between crying and laughing I was so giddy at being there! I went to City Hall for my birthday button and was treated like royalty all day. I rode Space Mountain first (isn't that what you're supposed to do?). I thought Buzz would be closed but it wasn't so I rode it (not a good score). CMs wished me Happy Birthday all day. One of them gave me a pin. Another handed me a phone on which Goofy was wishing me a Happy Birthday! I caught Cinderellabrations (my first time) and loved it! I rode Stitch (a disappointment). I did Peter Pan & Winnie the Pooh. Philharmonic had "technical difficulties" so I returned later in the day. I made it a point to visit attractions that my children didn't want to do on our last visit (2003)--Country Bear Jamboree, Swiss Family Tree House, Hall of Presidents, Cinderella' Carousel, Belle's Story Time and the Tiki Room. I enjoyed just BEING there! I literally was able to stop and smell the roses--in the beautiful rose garden. I could also shop at my own pace (I'm not a shopper, but did need to bring home a few souvenirs!
).
I had lunch at Tony's and was treated to ice cream and cheers for my bday. A little girl from Chicago was there turning 5--her dad took a picture of both of us since we shared a bday. It was sweet.
Of course I got so see (and videotape) Jerome Bettis, Haines Ward and Emmitt Smith and Jerome's mom who all led the Main Street parade! That was exciting.
It was wonderful for one day not having to share my food or try to keep everyone happy or try to squeeze in as many attractions as possible. I was at my leisure to enjoy and to skip rides if I didn't feel like waiting. (The crowds weren't too bad. TouringPlans.com had predicted a level 8 at peak and they were probably close at least for poplular attractions, but I found it wasn't too bad. I didn't wait more than 20 to 30 minutes, but I chose not to).
WISHES did not fail to delight me! It was as wonderful as ever. It was my third time to see it. I must say, though the first was the best: I had seen it during MVMCP and its finale during that included a complete circle of fireworks around the area in front of the castle!
Before I cease gushing, I must say that it was encouraging to see people respond to the magic of Disney with courtesy and general pleasantness. There is hope for the human spirit! I saw so many examples of people helping others, extending generosity and being polite. People were very nice to me all day. I had the time of my life and I know that dreams do come true.
OK. I'm done gushing. I apologize that I wasn't as funny and entertaining as so many of your trip reports! I return home refreshed and full of pixie dust! (Now I just need a touch from the tag fairy!
)
