What would you do? POFQ or ASMu

We are going in November if FD becomes available then, if not we are booked at ASMu for September. I am traveling with my DH, DD's 9 and 6, mother, her hubby and possibly my 13 y/o nephew. We have FD right now for September but upgraded to 1 TS, 1 CS and 1 snack daily. I'm thinking about switching us to POFQ for November FD. We've never been and I hear great things about it and how small it is. We've never been to a moderate. We've only stayed at ASMu and WL. This is my mothers first and probably only trip. They are retired and live on a very tight fixed income and saved and their trip is currently paid for.

If I switch us to POFQ DH and I will be paying for it. My DH would not be too thrilled because he always thinks we should stay at the cheapest possible and I am the opposite. We don't spend a lot of time at the resort but my mom's sweet hubby has a few health limitations and will spend more time there than we will. We liked ASMU when we stayed in October. It is very pretty but a little more kid geared. I've never been to POFQ and have only seen pictures. It will cost us $500 more to switch resorts. We can do it financially but it's a little bit more than we initially thought we would spend and DH doesn't like spend more if he doesn't have to. :rotfl2:

What would you do? For those of you who've stayed at both, could you give me a pro/con. I'm stuck right now. Thanks so much!

I hate to tell you to spend the money if your hubby is really against it but I will tell you that POFQ is beautiful and, IMO, worth the $500 upgrade. Plus, I would guess, that it would be more geared to your mother in law then ASMu. They have nice grounds and pool area plus lots of little places to sit and watch the water. You can take the boat to DTD as well and when we were there the buses were fast and efficient. We also liked being able to walk over to PORS and eat dinner at Boatwrights (which we loved). The rooms are also done nicely with the color scheme. It is compact, so walking around is not a problem. I don't know if your mother in law has any mobility issues but if so the small size of the resort might be nice for her. I have never stayed at ASMu so I can't compare it to that. Do the rooms there have a blocked off area with a curtain before the bathrooms? I found that nice at POFQ because someone could be getting ready behind the curtain even if someone else is taking a shower. Good luck with your decision and if you have any specific questions about POFQ feel free to ask!

The room we stayed in at ASMu had the bathroom all together behind a door. Which worked fine for us. DH wouldn't be too thrilled at first discussion but after a few days, he'd get over it. Decisions decisions.

EDT: Is POFQ that much prettier than ASMu in September or November?

I also agree that POFQ would be a great choice since you are traveling with grandparents. It's a beautiful resort while still having the Disney fun. If it's not a financial burden, I would upgrade.

All-stars are great, but definitely more "chaotic", which might be a bit much for older travelers who will be spending more time at the resort.

Either way, have a fantastic trip!

Thanks.

I don't see how ASMU is chaotic. When we were there in October it was not crowded at all. The pools had maybe 20 people at most and the walkways were virtually empty, even in the morning. I guess we hit it at the right time.

I guess if tour groups or cheerleaders are there it is but that doesn't happen too often.

Three more questions.
1. On the boats to DTD can they fit an ECV? If so, do they just roll on?
2. My weird question. In the standard rooms at POFQ, is the bedding purple in all the rooms? It's my mom's favorite color.
3. Is POFQ about the same size at ASMu?

To me POFQ seemed much smaller than ASMu.

I do think that POFQ seems much quieter than ASMu, much more laid back and relaxed. There is something so peaceful about watching the water go by.

Yes, the ECV just rolls right onto the boat. My husband uses one and has always done this. He is able to transfer, so he sits on a regular bench on the boat.

And yes, all the rooms have that purple color to them. :)

Looks like your other questions were already answered.

Its $500 more even taking into account the cost of the free dining upgrade?

Is the FD plan you are on Quick Service for Moderate or regular DDP?

Also, the beds are queen instead of full size at the POFQ which might make it more comfortable on everyone.

We're upgrading from QS to RD plans. Yes, even after the cost of upgrading it's still $500 more (for 2 rooms).

Thanks everyone. We decided to try POP this year. Since the food court at ASsport will be unavailable and they will be busing in those guest to ASMu, we figured we'd skip that and try Pop. I'll spend that saved $500 on tickets to MVMCP. I appreciate all of your help.
