What would you do in this situation - re rental with parents.

is there no other condo that would give you both appropriate sleeping arrangements and 2 parking spots?

Yeah, that was my first though too. Find a different vacation home to rent that has enough parking.

What kind of parking spot is this, several blocks away? Is it a secured lot?

I don't think the sleeping arangements sound all that ideal, anyway. You, your Dh, and your son will be sharing 2 twin beds? How old is your son? I guess if he is very young and sleeping in a portable crib or something it works out, but I'd rather not have to sleep in twin beds, separate from my husband (unless that was the same arangement we had at home!)

I would give the space to my parents, because they are older. In a few decades I will appreciate it when it is my turn.

I'm with those who say, "Keep looking for a better condo." Surely you could find something with double-masters, which would be better suited to your family's needs.

Y'all seem find about the bedroom arrangements, but in my family we would've done it differently. My husband, child and I would've taken the room with the king bed -- three people, especially with a small child, can share a king. It just sounds practical.

As for the parking space, I'd say your parents get it -- and for just the reasons that've already been mentioned. UNLESS you drive a roomy mini-van (or similar) that'll carry you all when you go out. If that's so, I'd guess that the whole family would prefer to have the roomy car closer.

I agree with you--your plans caused the change that caused the loss of the parking space. You take the spot farther away. I would also consider the age of the grandparents. Why would your husband expect them to walk a couple of blocks? IF kids are the issue--they can be dropped off while one parent goes and parks the car.

Ok pardon me but it's late and I'm loopy....you're sleeping in twin beds and it's the PARKING SPACE your DH is hung up on?v:rotfl:v My DH would never agree to GO if we had to sleep in twin beds, we'd never make it to the parking discussion.

I'm just curious... would DH suggest the same thing if it were his parents? If not, put it in those terms for him. If so...well, then he apparently just doesn't subscribe to the respect your elders/parents kinda thing.

My parents would have been highly insulted - they would see it as our insinuating they were "too old to get around" on their own..

They also would have insisted on taking the bedroom with the twin beds..

They're your parents. They get the closer space.

This. In my opinion, it has nothing to do with who requested the change, but rather it is a matter of respect. They get the master bedroom and the closer parking spot because they are your parents. Hopefully, one day, your children will give you the master bedroom and the good parking spot.

Where is this place?

I've stayed in Destin for 4th of july and all of the 4 venues we stayed at had ample parking:confused3

Agree with others-we have stayed at one with gigantic master & tiny second bedroom with 2 twins...........then we discovered another place down the street with two giant bedrooms-king in one and 2 QUEENS in other
I'd look for other places

My sentiments exactly.

How about your husband show a little respect for your parents. No way in the world would I take a closer spot and make my parents, or inlaws walk to a further one...just inappropriate and a little self-centered. Sorry if that's sounds rude.

Wow! I must admit I didn't expect to see such responses, but I forgot it's the DIS! Anywho, totally healthy and able parents, early 60s. Places at this beach are expensive and this is a really nice place within budget, so one room with twins. Son is three and we bring his toddler bed. Don't sleep in twins at home, but also do a disney vacay so we deal for the one week. Other spot is two blocks away on street. There are five total, so either car fits all, we actually used our van for everything. I still think mom and dad should get spot, but haven't talked about it again with him.

Here on the DIS we have early 60s member who are incapable of doing much for themselves.

Also, how old is your DS? Will it be a big deal if you have taking him a couple of blocks each time you use the car?

On the other hand how old are your parents. Would it be hard for them to manage with their car a couple blocks away. I know my DD, kids and myself could easily handle a walk like that. My parents would find it a challenge.

I say your parents are older give them the spot and good room. I wish my parents were well enough to travel like that. We would gladly give up stuff to have that oppertunity.

Enjoyt the time while you have it.
