What would you do about a hotel that encourages illegal parking?

Sorry if I offended anyone. 911 is Theron line to the police fire and ambulance here. It is used for emergencies and non emergencies alike. (I have checked this with a police officer btw) I assumed it was the same there. Good to know!

Freesia123: I have to ask where you live as I find that hard to believe? In Calfornia you can be cited with a misdeamenor criminal offense for calling 911 for a non-emergency (meaning life threatening circumstance or in-progress crime, parking is not a crime, parking is a vehicle code infraction). Of course people are rarely issued citations for this unless it is habitual, but I can tell you that most 911 operators will inform the caller that it is not appropriate to use 911 and will provide the appropriate 7-digit phone number to dispatch.

Just to give you an example, if all 911 operators are on the phone with emergencies & 911 rings someone has to put their call on hold (so someone providing life saving medical instructions or getting information in a suspect currently trying to break into a house) to answer that 911, and if it is not truly an emergency that is a HUGE dis-service to those who truly have emergencies.

And 911 centers only have a limited number of 911 lines - if all lines are busy, including people with non-emergencies, someone calling 911 with a true emergency (needing CPR instructions, heart attack, child missing, etc.) will get a busy signal. This is why I find it hard to believe that your local agency is okay with it.

I would actually highly recommend that you call your local 911 center on their non-emergency number and speak with a DISPATCHER to confirm if 911 is okay to use for non-emergencies.

Sorry for my soap box speech, but the number of people who call 911 for non-emergencies is actually huge. I was quite pleased to see so many people post that it is not appropriate use of 911 for parking complaints (though I have a sneaking suspicion some of you are LE!)

Oh no, do not use 911 for a non-emergency call. In fact I've called 911 and been put on hold for my true emergency because others were calling for non-emergency reasons, we almost had our home burn down completely because it took so long to get through on the emergency lines, we had 5 different houses calling for us and we were on our cell phones. BTW cell phones go straight to CHP dispatch because they can't really tell where you're calling from.....
I know that and I'm not in LE......which I had to think about because to me LE is Limited Edition. lol

OP call the non-emergency police number and tell them your experiences, not sure they will follow up but they might.

I was rear-ended in 2011 and my vehicle was crunched in the middle of the 5 here in SoCal. I called 911 and told them the situation. They asked if there were any injuries and I said no, to which they told me that 911 was for emergencies only. Even THAT situation didn't warrant 911, apparently, so a parking situation certainly doesn't.

How about we drop the 911 issue since it's been beaten to death already. Maybe we can get the discussion back on the Super 8 and leave Freesia123 alone.

I agree:thumbsup2 It's as if people haven't read the other comments telling her not to use 911 for this. She made a suggestion based on where she lives in Canada. If she is in a small rural town in Canada, how do we know what is acceptable? I think she's getting more slack than the Super 8, which is what this was about.

By the way, my husband has been a 911 supervisor for the City of Portland for 19 years, so I can appreciate the need for people to use it appropriately.

Now back to the OP's question...

One of the reasons I like Anaheim Plaza is because there is tons of parking, and they will let you stay until midnight (park close) the day you check out. They charge but not that much and so much easier than the horrible parking at some of those terrible hotels. Some hotels have 1 spot per room ok in theory that's fine until you get every gigantic SUV in tiny spots it's almost like they take up 2 spots per space. Ugg You can park but you can't actually get OUT of your car!
