Hello all

I have a $200 Bass pro shops GC and nothing there that I think I would need for day to day life so I plan on getting stuff to use while at the Fort for the week.

I already have:
Tent, Firepit, Picnic area tent thing and golf cart

What I was thinking of picking up
Air mattress
Cooler
Flashlights/lantern
Bug repellent
camping folding chair

Now that is going to be nowhere near $200 worth (will prob buy the cheapest versions of such items since again I wont need often)

What other items do you think I would need/want that I could add to my list?

will you be cooking or eating out ?
stove/pots/plates/cups will be needed if cooking

we are going last week of June and are stocking up and packing non perishables
now. we have all needed equipment we are long time tent campers.

will be using the grill mostly just steaks and burgers and such..

haha not sure if they sell the paper plates/plastic forks there at pro shop but I cant believe I totally forgot about those.. adding to my target list thanks :)

looking at photo's it does look like some people put up shade tarps and or hammocks maybe I will look at those

Stove and propane like mentioned. Heat water for washing cooking tools while eating dinner.
TARP-under tent
First up or EZ up (maybe cheaper at Walmart though)
rubber mallet-(for stakes)

One of the most important things I need camping is a good air mattress, I hate waking up to a stiff neck or sore back. And of course a french press for a cup of coffee to get the day going.

Tarp under tent added thanks Sunshine :)

Sundancer I am looking at a Coleman air mattress... what in your mind makes one better then another? just the height? is there different material? I just thought they were all air inside plastic :)

Coleman makes a good air mattress, just check the online reviews. I have had more expensive models that don't hold air overnight, I have a Coleman now that was about $50 and it has worked great for a few summers, it is just a single layer the double layers seem tippy and sway more as you move.

If I were choosing, my first pick would be an air mattress and my second would be a folding chair. I need sleep! And the folding chairs are so nice in lieu of benches.

I have to be honest, my third item would be my hammock and stand which are portable for this very reason...lol, I also really love napping.

As for mattresses, I have a double stacked mattress with the pump built in. Cost was $85 at Wal-Mart. I love being able to sit on the end of the bed while puitting shoes on and standing right up from laying down, but people are right...double stack meas a little bit tippy.

How about ammo for your gun? them armadillos can get crazy coming after your chezits.

There are some nice LED lanterns. Chairs I would do at walmart/menards on sale/try to catch on discount. I picked some $8 HD chairs that are pretty good.

How about shoes for the park? or Back Pack

Dutch oven and stands?

Oh wait (sorry born 2 fish) You need a rod and reel to go fishing!!!!!

There are themrorest chairs that are nice

heck if you have time, check out the outlet to make that $ go farther.

I think the air mattress is a must and a 10x10 ease up as well. A good cooler will also be a must.

I agree about some fishing supplies if you like to fish and think you might have some time.

I have got to find Frank before my November trip since I am going to have a few non-park days to wet a hook.

I have to agree an air mattress, a cooler and chairs are a must. The LED lantern batteries should last a week, but take extra batteries. If you know someone who is a long time camper, they will have a couple stoves and might let you borrow one. The stove, a couple plastic tubs and a pot to heat water will come in real handy. I am guessing the picnic area thingie is an easy up, this is a plus for shade. If you put adult beverages in the cooler, get a good lock as the otters and squirrels are can open anything.
:offtopic:Tiggerdad, beware of Frank's fishing report. I grew up in Galveston and long time fishermen have been known to lead us rookies in the wrong direction.:rotfl2:

Offtopic (sorry)

Wish I could get a fishing report from Frank...

Thanks for all the suggestions... I was able to get a few items i never thought of
(Tarp, some comfortable outdoor shoes and such) Also am taking up the suggestions on the items that would be best to get elsewhere like the camp chairs and paper products.

Soo my $200 was able to get me 2 air mattresses, 8 pack of little led flashlights, a LED Lantern,40Qt cooler, Tarp and spikes, pair a shoes and pair of shorts..now I watch the prices for the next thirty days and see if i can get any adjustments before i use them.

I don't fish at all so thank goodness I didn't have to go into that area of the store or else i would have spent alot more money :)

Mfisc,

That pack of flashlights wouldn't happen to be the Remington or Winchester brand that comes in different colors?

Did you buy the Coleman air mattress? The white one that is about $50?

Definitely test it out (fill it up and lie on it for a few hours) before going camping! We saw really inconsistent reviews on it (either one or five stars) but bought it because we got it on sale anyway. We filled it up, and it was flat within an hour. One of the seams was split. Packed it up and exchanged it, and then got one that was great and held air for 5 nights without having to be topped up.

Clearly they have some inconsistencies and there are just some "duds" out there, so make sure to test yours out before going away!

Camping chairs: Walmart (Coleman-they hold up longer IMHO):thumbsup2

Outdoor Extension cord(s): Walmart (need for charging those cell phones)

Utility Light (for tent or lanterns): Walmart

Nylon rope for hanging towels: Walmart

Outdoor door mat: Walmart for the front door of the tent

Rubbermaid or Sterlite containers for storing the camping items: Walmart

Just to name a few...:goodvibes

if you've never tent camped before I would highly recommend setting everything up in your backyard and spending one night in your tent before you head to the fort.

I would also recommend adding to your list an outdoor extension cord and a big box fan to help with temp control in tent and as a bonus the fan will help block out noise from barking dogs, etc.

Do you have a small gas grill? Or did you intend to always cook over the charcoal grill at the site? I'm big on the convenience and speed of gas when we're camping and in sightseeing mode.

And I second the good air mattress and chairs.

However, do you have any friends with an Aero Bed that you could borrow? They're the kind of thing that is awesome to have (a good, high-quality brand) but you don't use often, so it is nice to lend. We have a king size and I have a friend with a queen size. If we ever go tenting or have a big sleepover party for DS in the basement, I borrow her queen size. Thanksgiving comes around and her family is in town and she borrows our king size. Works great.

Folding chairs are handy for camping and lots of other things as well.
