What would the drawback be?

I know I have asked Use Year questions before and even thought I had everything figured out - but now I need advice again. We have an April use year on our (one and only) contract (Poly). I really want to add on at WL. I see a resale contract that looks almost perfect. However, it has a March use year. If we mainly plan on having split stays anyway, so we wouldn’t be having to combine points, what would be the downside of having two Use Years separated by a month? I know we could just buy direct and get the same Use Year - but that is a $4000 difference. (And small April contracts just don’t show up very often.).

Not much of a drawback at all if you rarely need to combine points from both contracts to pay for a night. You just have to keep track of separate banking windows and remember which points are in which status within each contract.

If you have to transfer to book, you might have to call MS, and potentially lose a reservation to someone who could book online. If you do the transfer ahead of time, you should be able into book online at 7 months..

You sound experienced enough to handle two memberships, so if it's a good deal, you should go for it Waiting for perfect is hard! Good luck!

The “benefit” you’d get is that if you bank your March points, you have a whole extra month to decide whether to use or bank your April points.

I just banked my points—and I wish I waited until the end of the month. Lol. But I was all panicking that I might forget—despite all the reminders I set for myself.

They would be a separate member number. This is done with a drop down in the booking system.

It's not the best system, and sometimes it's hard to tell which contract you are searching with. If you mess it up, you have to start over. I've messed this up more than once. I know how to do it now, but there was learning curve.

You also can't combine the points, so this is tough with a small contract. If you have a few points hanging loose, that's a pain.

The only other drawback to consider with a March and April UY is traveling.

A March trip is great for a March UY. It is horrible for an April UY. So, if you ever travel, even with a split stay, that is risky.

But, you own the April UY so this is not something new. It takes more work and having smaller contracts could leave you stragglers but it is doable.
