I am considering adding on another 50 points through Disney. We have a March use year. What would happen in this situation?

Let's say I was put on a wait list and the points finally came through, but not until my banking dealine has passed. There would be no way we could fit in a trip before they expire. Would we lose the first set of 50 points? Would they make an exception and let us bank them?

I am hestitant to call Disney and get put on a waitlist for this reason. Would I be better off waiting until March 1 to even call?

I asked my guide this question as my banking deadline is the end of Sept and I'm waiting for a 50 point contract. She said it will not be a problem banking them after the deadline. She said MS will let you do it when you do an add on like ours. I hope she's right, but I still have 2 months before I have to bank.

MS often does let people bank the current-year points they get with their add-on even if they are past the banking deadlines. However, remember that the banking percentages are calculated using the TOTAL points you own between your master contract and the add-ons to that master contract so the relevant banking deadline might be later than you think.

With a March UY, your banking deadlines are Aug 31: 100%, Nov 30: 50%, Dec 31: 25%. Assuming you are adding 50 points on to a 150-point master contract, and you have not banked any other points this Use Year, then that 50 point add-on is only 25% of your total points, so you would have until December 31st to bank those 50 points. If you have already banked some points this Use Year, then you need to factor those in. Let's say you have banked some points but not more than 50 points already, then you would have until Nov 30th (your 50% banking deadline) to bank the new points. If you have already banked more than 50 points, then you would only have until Aug 31st to bank all 50 of the new points, if MS doesn't waive the deadline for you (though I suspect that they will).

Normally, DVC will allow add-ons to be banked. If there is any question in your mind, simply verify that as a condition of purchasing the additional points.

Enjoy! :)

Not to throw water on the excitement, but one of our add ons was this exact situation and we were not allowed to bank the points. We asked, we asked for an exception, we pleaded, and were told under no circumstances could we bank the points (our name came up on the wait list two months before the end of our use year). This was in 2002, and some have said that they have gotten looser with this, but it does/has happened that you aren't allowed to bank the points. In my case, I transferred them to another member at a bargain price with two weeks to go in the use year. The transfer transaction resulted in the points not expiring, changing resorts, changing use years, and being able to be rented out at a profit as I found out later.
