Yes, we are also affected by the POFQ closure... we go out 12/8-12/28...so my question is this....we have spoken to a CM who is looking to see a) if we can upgrade to the Poly (closest in size) b) how much this will cost BUT I want to know we have AP's but as we all know the AP rates for xmas are not out yet...so IF we get changed at a small upgrade price and IF rates come out will be still be able to take advantage of these benefits to AP holders. Before anyone gets up in arms that I am trying to take advantage of a miserable situation I want to be clear that all I am looking for would be the $$$ difference between Mod rack rate and Mod AP Rate which I would have received had Disney not decided to change my res.... What do you think??? Should this be OK or have I had too much Pixie Dust and it's affecting my brain???

I"m not sure what you mean by the comment about the Poly being "closest in size". The rooms at the Poly are MUCH larger than PO, the deluxes that have similar sized rooms are WL and AKL.

Personally MHO is that if you can upgrade to the Poly (or any other deluxe) for the already discounted rate you were getting at a moderate, you should just be happy and not look for any further discounts. Face it, they don't have to upgrade anyone, and could very easily tell you your choices are CBR or CSR, period.

I think you misunderstood me... I don't have a discounted rate yet!!!! That's what my question is about... would I still be able to get a discount... as far as size of resort maybe I have misread the details of the poly but it seemed the best for us.... :D

dad-I have been checking out the resort info since we are going to be displaced from POFQ (5-17 to 5-19). Most people are recommending that we go with WL since that seems to be the smallest deluxe. If you are trying to find the smallest because of mobility issues (as we are) then that might be something to consider.

HTH!

I think the poster means that he is paying rack rate for a Moderate in December. He wants not only a discount on the rate he is paying for the moderate but an upgrade to Polynesian on top of that.

Hi Gepetto

Basically at the moment I am paying the rack rate of $133 + Tax p/n (assuming they offer a rate which has been reported on some boards of $30p/n upgrade UNCOMFIRMED!!) then I will be paying $163 + tax p/n.... should there be AP discounts on for Nov/Dec then Polynesian Guests would be paying $164 + tax anyway... so not much compensation for me really is it?? Can you see where I am coming from??

Where you are coming from, if I understand correctly is you are wanting a discount on top of another fabulous discount, Is that correct?

As far as I know you will not be able to change your reservation after the initial change is made. When Disney contacts you and you agree to a certain resort at a certain price, that is the end of it.

There is no guarantee anyone will get AP discounts, much less what the price will be and especially as far away as December.

How are you determining now what the cost of a room at discount will be in December? I wish I knew what they would be next month. I am really confused by the number of people that think AP discounts are a given.

Sammie

All I can do is base it on historical discounts..Of course I know there are no guarantees of AP Discounts, however if I had my way I'd be staying at POFQ and not be even having this converstaion... but such is life and as we are staying for 3 weeks whatever happens it is going to cost me big time anyway so any savings I can make the better...

I would give my first born to get the Poly for $163 during your time. (Well, maybe not my first born, but you know ;) ) I don't think you can get better. I am sure that the discount rates for the poly won't be anywhere near that.

I think I understand what you are saying. If you are indeed able to upgrade to the Polynesian at an additional $30 per night bringing your rate up to $163 per night, then I would stay with that and not worry about what the AP rates would be. The cheapest I have ever seen an AP rate at the Polynesian was $169, so you'd be beating that. Of course, this is all speculation, but should things turn out this way, I would stick with the special upgrade price that they would give you.

Cheers Brian

For a while there I beginning to think I was communicating in a different language to everyone else, it's not the % discount I am concerned with it is the bottom line I am paying I have to worry about... yes the Poly would be lovely but if it's adding major $$$$ to the trip cost which has already cost $4500 before we've even got there then I am going to have to look at every area to try and trim costs somewhere...
;) ;)

I think that OP is asking this.. He has booked Mod at rack 133 + tax, probably anticipating to get either a code or AP discount. So now the POFQ is not available and if he is offered an upgrade to POLY for $30 more it would be $163. but if had been able to get a code or AP for his original ressie to reduce that to lets say $94 than with the upgrade it would be $124.00 for the Poly instead of $163.00. Is that correct?

You are assuming too much. It is more likely that the displaced guests will be given a choice of another moderate or a standard view room at AKL or WL. IF you are allowed an upgrade it would be based on your current rate...not some discount that you think might happen 8 months from now. Why do you think you are entitled to any more?

It doesn't take much to get peoples feathers ruffled around here, does it. :(

If they did decide to let you put an AP rate on top of the extra $30 you might pay to upgrade to the Poly then you would have to pay more. The AP rates and even the public codes for the Poly at any time hasn't been lower then $169. I don't think you really want to do that! :D Now if you would have booked your room at some kind of discount to begin with then you would only have to pay $30 or more but you can't retro a discount and do it. If you can get the Poly for only $30 more then what you are paying for your room now than that is as good as it gets. It doesn't get any lower then that even with all these good codes and AP rates. The lowest I've gotten the Poly was $204 tax included during October regular season. Now I'm going April-May and getting the same room for $221 tax included. That is for regular season too but with an even better postcard rate. I'm thrilled! I don't even think IF any AP rates come out for that time it will be any better as that is a great rate. You may want to try the WL if offered as that resort is much smaller then the Poly. Not much walking and totally enclosed. I think it is smaller, resort size, then POR. The WL is my favorite resort as the lobby is magnificent and really something to experience. It is a great feeling to come back to the lodge where it seems to wintery after spending a broiling day at the parks.:D

If you can afford the $163/nt and if they offer to upgrade you for $30/night more then by all means go for it! If I'm reading your post correct you booked at rack rate hoping not to pay rack but eventually apply a code for a moderate. So quite possible adding $30 a night rather than taking money off may be too much for your budget. (Not to put words in your mouth just guessing). WL and AKL standard rooms are less expensive than the Poly but are discounted with the current code to $139/nt plus tax (during regular season). Since you are traveling during value season you may find that those resorts may offer you a better bang for you buck. They will possibly be disounted less than you have a moderate booked for now. Then again no discount is guaranteed so it would be wise to book what you want and can afford and then take any discount as icing on the cake :). Where do you want to stay? If you have your heart set on a moderate then just rebook at POR, CBR or CSR and then hope and wait for a code but be prepared if one doesn't come out. If you've always wanted to stay at the Poly and it's offered I would say you will never get a better rate :). We would love to stay there this June but currently it's too expensive ($244/nt plus tax for GV) so we are at CR wing instead. If I've learned one thing on these boards over the past 2 years it's book what you can afford and then discount it later if you can because no one knows when and if Disney will offer discounts. Good luck!

Thanks Oneuponadream

Thanks for the advice...must admit when I posted this thread had no idea how much I would upset soooo many people!!!!

Am going to wait and see what CRO say when they call back on Wednesday see what rates they are charging for the Poly... all afternoon we have been discussing how much more we could afford to pay and like you say this could be our only opportunity to stay at a deluxe property and should grab it with both hands before they change their minds. If we do stay at the poly then we will certainly have to forego a few special treats for xmas (discovery cove & the like)

Had never even looked at Deluxe property before as we couldn't afford it so it's all happening quite quickly.... maybe it's a silver lining after all.... at the worst it's an excuse to go back next year so we can get to FQ!!!!!!!

Hope you got a reply to your question, you could also maybe try walt disney travel co 0800 0151 494 I try lots of companies and they ofton come up with the best discounts
unfortunately there are one or two people on these boards who like to answer everything in a aggresive way, makes you wonder how they talk to their own family. Try looking up pool hopping questions.
Anyway good luck and have a great time when you get there.
