I hope another Bud can offer you some more suggestions! Here's some info on Sorbaria ( false spirea) , also some info on the always beautiful Hydrangea . The shape might not be exactly what you want, but I suppose that could be a matter of showing them who's the boss!! Are you sure you don't want an evergreen?
