What would be the best room to ask for at the Grand?

So we decided we are going to the Disney's Grand California Hotel. Which room is the best room? I know I want the sixth floor, (that's the highest right?) So is it cheaper for a parking lot view? If it's way cheaper for a parking lot view; I'll take that! We are going to book so far in advance I should get the room I want. Right? :lovestruc

When I made our reservations for this past May, I requested a specific room # based on earlier reviews by Mary Jo. At the time, I was told by the CM that it shouldn't be a problem because believe it or not they don't get many room # requests and so when one comes out they :sunny: try to make an effort to honor it. Anyways, when we actually checked in, lo and behold, it wasn't the room I asked for. At first I was a little irked, but then decided what the heck this hotel is gorgeous no matter which room we end up in. Imagine our surprise when we opened the door and actually discovered that we were upgraded to a Downtown Disney view!! I guess having a positive attitude really works afterall... :sunny:

Yes, the lowest rates would be for the parking lot (standard) view. You might check for senior discounts (if applicable), AP rates (sometimes the discount is worth the cost of the pass), Disney Visa rates (if you have one) or AAA rates (worth a try)...or any other manager specials they might be having. Last minute rates are sometimes very good. The lowest I've ever booked the Grand was 169/ night but this was two years ago and it was a Disney Visa promotion (sigh). Doubt it will ever get that low again but you might be able to find something (in a parking lot view) in the two hundred range if your dates are flexible. :goodvibes

Well, the sixth floor is the concierge floor, therefore the most expensive location in the hotel. That being said, even on the 6th floor there is standard view prices (which includes the courtyard view, so why go for the parking lot view if you can get the courtyard view instead?), DD view prices, and park view prices.
To get standard view (or any particular view) prices without the added expense of concierge, you'll need to be on the 5th floor or lower.
