My son will be turning 8 and I was thinking maybe whispering canyon? Or should I go charachter? Where would you go? Thanks, Lisa

According to one of my guide books the best place to celebrate a childs birthday is Chef Mickey's. I have never done this, but my Best friend took her Niece and they had a ball.

I think CM is a good idea too. Actually, I think any character meal location would be a nice place to celebrate if CM doesn't fit into your touring schedule.

I have done bday meals at CM,wispering canyon,park fare,cinderella's castle,crystal palace,phana's, and boma.

All were wonderful!

Does your son love the characters? If so I highly suggest (and agree with abouve poster) to go with chef mickey's! If they don't matter and can take some serious joking..wispering canyon is a blast (if it hasn't changed their bday shtick)

Why not do both? CM for breakfast and WC for dinner? or on 2 different days?
I think if it is a bday trip..celebrate the entire time!

I love all of the character meals but I agree that you should go to hef Mickeys. Especially since there are characters a boy would like. (My son doest really like pooh and friends) so yes I would go to CM. The food was pretty good and character interaction great PLUS they will do somthing special for your son. Have fun!

Hoop-Dee-Doo at Fort Wilderness is fun for everyone! The food is great and so is the show because everyone gets involved.

Yes, good idea...do I just say that we are there @ Disney for his b-day everywhere we go? What kinds of things do they do for a young man? *(yrs old)

I agree with this. If you let them know when you make your reservation, they also tend to make a big deal out of special occasions during the show, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. It tends to be a very interactive show, which is kind of cool. Plus, if your son likes good ole comfort food (fried chicken, ribs, strawberry shortcake and all the soda he can drink), he would probably like it.

Whenever you make a reservation say you are celebrating a bday. Each place does different things...I will tell you a few things I have observed but remember these may happen or may not....Don't go expecting specific things and be disappointed if it doesn't happen (but stuff usually does!)

Some bring out small cupcakes/cakes(boma had the best mickey shaped cake)and light the candle and get the room to sing....Wispering canyon did that and took it a step further...all the cm's nearby came to sing, pulled out forks, and started digging in to the birthday cupcake!it was sooo funny... (cupcake was replaced by a new one)At Ohana's for dinner I was able to shake the maracas during the conga parade...Tables will be decorated...birthday cards... characters get involved....it is different from place to place..plus you get take home items too!

Garden Grill with the characters was a great dinner. We had the best character interaction ever there. We did it for DD's 7th birthday. We ordered the podioum cake for dessert since there are only us 3. I had the disney florist leave a huge stuffed mickey for Dd with her cake. Mickey had a riot playing with stuffed mickey.

Adult: California Grill, Narcoossees
Teenager: Ohanas, Kona cafe, spoodles, espn,
Little Girl : The Grand Floridian Tea
Little Boy: Sci Fi in MGM, Chef Mickeys

I am taking the kiddies back to WDW in August and staying at The CR...we were at WDW in November and stayed at The Poly. After much deliberation I chose Whispering Canyon for breakfast for my sons 8th birthday and CRT for Dinner since we are going to be at MK for his birthday. I am surprising my kids :ssst: , they think they are going to Hershey Park, and after many reviews I thought that restaurant would be a great fit for him. Have a great trip!

My son is a bit older but his preferences would be:
Ohana~ he loved the food
Hoop Dee Doo
Whispering Canyon
