What will you do with your DVC when you get too old?

Of course, one of the great things obaut WDW and area is that it is soooooo accessible. We have a 6 yr old Son who is wheelchair bound, and he is the main reason we bought DVC (his 4 yr old sister doesn't mind either). For us in snowy New England, the thought of someplace warm, wheelchair accessible and where our handicapped child is treated like royalty was just too amazing for us to pass up. (he is esp fond of the new Philharmagic :3dglasses) So I am guessing that if my mobility begins to fail (I hope not) that WDW vacations would be the Last thing we'd give up.

But hey, if you should move on to a better place (even better than WDW ;)) before your DVC contract is up, you can always pass it to your heirs, or just liquidate it thru resale and pass it on as cash.

I really don't want to think about the day that I can no longer travel to WDW/DVC resorts. Very depressing. We have three children, and our plan is for each one of them to have their own DVC resort.

We just reciently purchased our second DVC resort at BWV, resale, our first is at VB. We love both places, but the kids have very different likes in resorts. The eldest, 26 now and his wife, like the beaches and ocean water front, so guess which one they'll end up getting. The 14 year old, loves BW , so it will be her's. The 23 year old loves the WL, so our next and final resale purchase will be at VWL! Hopefully within the next few years.

This may sound strange doing it this way, but this way they all get exactly which resort they want and are comfortable staying at. Isn't that what it's all about anyway?

......and that differs from what you do now.....how? ;) :)

We have 3 contracts - at 200,100 and 150. DH has 2 children and I have one, so that's enough to go around. It may not work out that way, though. DH's two have gone with us once, but aren't overly anxious to go again. DS (21), however, really does think that the Boardwalk is his 2nd home, and is ready, willing and able to take over if we can't go. ;)

We will be 86 and 85 when DVC concludes. I suspect that DVC will still be delivering magical memories long after we are able to go and enjoy them. Our daughters can have them then.

We have 2 contracts...and 2 kids. Hmmm.

Actually, we have every intention of passing our contracts on to our DS9&12 when we feel the time is right... perhaps when they have kids of their own who reach prime WDW age, maybe as early as 15+ years from now. :(

Can't wait to see how we'll decide who gets the VWL vs the BWV contract.

You can always let them battle it out.

We will be 91 when our contracts expire, and my main worry is whether or not the kids will have the money for the dues. If we are ready to pass on our 700 pts and they don't want or can't afford the dues, then we will have to sell. That's a lot of money in a year to saddle your children with. I think when we can't use our points anymore, that's probably what we will do. Both kids like Disney, but they love it especially because mom and dad are paying for everything. I still have awhile to think about it, since I'm just a baby now:laughing:

Well, I'm 53 and my DW is 56. I would hope we have at least 20 more years if not more that we'd be actively travelling. After that we'll leave them to our DD and DS to use. Both like WDW and hopefully at some point we'll also get some grandchildren that can enjoy our points also.

tvwalsh--You won't even be 100 when your contract ends. I will be 100 and I plan on going to the end. My kids will get everything I own including the contract if I go before then. Maybe we should start having party's for us greying members. I would not worry about the dues thing. It will be up to your kids if they want to continue it, but like I said already you won't even be 100 so I would not worry about it.

Thanks Pa@OKW but I sometimes feel like I'm already 100!

We will pass it on to our sons.. who have basically grown up at Disney. We bought in '93 and go for at least 2 weeks every year. When we bought the oldest was 2 and the baby was 4 months. They know Disney like some kids know their locale zoo.

:earsboy: :earsgirl:

We have 4 contracts of 225 points each - our intention is to give a contract to each of our 3 kids as they reach adulthood - keeping one for ourselves. We're raising them to be WDW addicts so hopefully they will actually use the points instead of renting them. I'm sure we can work out a deal to pay the dues for them if it posed a burden (bribery - "we'll pay the dues if you continue to vacation with us...") If we die, they'll just have to fight over that last contract. :p Seriously, if we should die prior to them reaching adulthood, it's included in our family's living trust with our intentions spelled out clearly and our executor (best friend/cousin) knows all about it - heck, we're worth a lot more dead than alive - the kids would be so well off they'd have absolutely no problem with dues. (don't tell the kids...) ;)

I joke with my wife that we will have to buy at a new resort opening down the road so we can have an extended end date on a contract. Our BWVs contract will expire around the same time we are ready to retire

My first thought was I hope to never be "too old" to use my points. Then I thought I should try to accumulate enough points so that I can retire as a "snowbird" to my DVC home.

Anyway, I do plan to use my points but I know if my 3 children, ages 9, 7 and 5, continue w/ this love of Disney I better get 3 equal contracts1

Oh-any excuse to add-on!

God Bless everyone and I hope we are all healthy enough to see the end of our contracts.

I'll only be 70 in 2042 (actually, only 69...won't turn 70 until later that year). I plan to be around longer than that.

Of course, if dh and I both don't make it that far the kids will have to fight over it! Our 200 points won't go far split 3 ways. Then again, we may have more points by then as well. It would be nice to have 200 points for each child to have if we're unable to keep them ourselves....and it would be nice to have 200 points to use for a vacation with each set of grandkids if we are able to use up the contracts! Of course, grandkids are a long way off...our kids are only 8yo, 3yo, and almost 28 weeks in gestation!

We're thinking that we'll just get a condo near WDW once 2042 rolls around....so we can go on a permanent vacation! No plans at this point to add on at SSR. Of course, that depends on us still wanting to hang out at WDW at that point. I think its entirely possible we'll change our minds before then.
