What Will Become of Tomorrow Land?

Apologies if this has been asked before--and feel free to refer me to another thread--but I am wondering what the reigning theory is on what will happen to Tomorrow Land after Star Wars Land opens.

Yes, I know Tomorrow Land isn't Star Wars Land and I know that Tomorrow Land is not only about space, but I'll be darned if they don't strike me as scratching similar itches when it comes to thrill rides and a bit of the theming.

I would love to see Tomorrow Land return to its roots of being more about the future and less about JUST intergalactic space travel (a la Star Tours and Space Mountain), but is that what they are aiming to do?

What do you guys see happening? Is there any talk about a big old grand rehab on the land? It's just so dated and sort of incoherent as a themed land right now. I feel like something has to give.

Thoughts? Links? Thanks!

I would like to see more in Tomorrowland, too, but can't see them changing Star Tours or Space Mountain/HyperSpace Mountain since they are so popular. Those are great attractions with the right theming.

When SW land opens they're going to need all of the merchandise locations in TL to take the strain of the retail spots. Probably for a few years. If they're going to change something, I'd like to see them eventually do away with Launch Bay. At a minimum, they could be prepping something non-Star Wars for the second floor to open with SW land, if not sooner.

I have heard that after SWL they are actually turning their attention toward a Fantasyland refurb/update. Then, maybe after that Tomorrowland. Although there is another rumor that the Tron ride from Shanghai may be coming to Tomorrowland, but again, probably not for 5 years or so.

I like tomorrowland and I believe it could be great with a little help. I think it could be a little updated...in terms of looks. Once SWL opens I think it would be nice to rid the star wars elements from tomorrowland. Never been a fan of star wars..although I do like hyperspace mountain :) I have never liked the astro orbitors .. yuck... and sorry but I am not a fan of Star Tours either. I agree with the original poster that they need to go beyond the intergalactic space travel and actually go I the direction of the future! I am just so tired tomorrowland being code word for everything related to the star wars franchise.

Seriously?? Is there any validity to this?? Cause that would be awesome!!

I've read this, too, but I thought it was in reference to WDW. Either way what I read said it was very much still a rumor at this point.

The rumor was for both coasts. But definitely still a rumor at this point. Fingers crossed.

Apparently the original rumor was WDW only, then the rumor grew to include DLR. It was mentioned that if they don't use the technology to make a Tron ride, they could use the same ride system to make a Marvel ride. I actually like that idea. Have the same ride type but with a different theme. Like RSR vs. Test Track. Same basic ride, different theme. Of course in that case one is definitely better than the other, whereas a Lightcycle ride at WDW would be equally as cool as a Marvel based ride with the same system.

It's all rumors and speculations. I'm sure it's based in truth, but Disney is always changing their mind.

I loved the Tron ride at Shanghai! I hope it does come to the US. But I have to disagree with the poster that said Test Track and Radiator Springs Racers are the same basic ride, just different themeing. Test track runs a banks oval whereas RSR had hills, turns, and speed (and a better theme). I don't bother riding (or waiting) for Test Track, even with it's cool design-your-ride competition.

I keep thinking about this whole thing. A TRON coaster in Tomorrowland, towering above the land and winding its way through buildings and open spaces would just be SO. FREAKIN. COOL.

I'd even be fine with them getting rid of Space Mountain for it. Or maybe incorporating it into the existing mountain somehow. As long as it's fast and flashy and fun...I'm in. Don't get me wrong, SM is one of my favorite rides. But if they could find a way to integrate the two, almost like the whole Hyperspace Mountain (where it's the old ride and the new Star Wars theming combined), I'm totally down.

Seriously, watched one video of the TRON ride and thought it was one of the sweetest looking coasters ever made.

DOOOOOOO IT, Disney.

I don't think getting rid of Space Mountain is an option, it's iconic. The rumor I heard/read was that the Tron coaster would be where Innoventions is (as well as possibly get rid of Autopia). The other option is apparently doing a Captain America version of it in the obviously coming Marvel Land. I very much hope this rumor comes to fruition.

I just wish that it would be feasible to move Star Tours. Once Star Wars Land is built, it won't really belong in Tomorrowland.

I disagree with this sentiment in a couple of different ways. First, SWL is going to be a specific area/planet, so Star Tours doesn't really fit there, as you're boarding a flight and ending up somewhere different in the Star Wars universe. Second, just because something seems like it fits *better* somewhere else doesn't mean it doesn't fit where it is.

I have to disagree, for two reasons: First off, I think that it makes more sense that ALL Star Wars attractions be in Star Wars land. Sure, for people who've been going to the park during the past 30 years, Star Tours is a part of Tomorrowland. But what about the 1st time guest? They finally go, maybe because of all the Star Wars stuff, and it's spread across the park.
As to your point about the journey starting one place and ending another, as long as the journey starts at a "spaceport" on whatever planet the new land is supposed to represent, I don't see a problem with it. It's not like anybody believes that they are actually traveling to a different planet.
But, I am sure that it would cost a fortune to move the attraction, so it's all a moo point.

I've overheard more than a few young kids asking their parent if they'll be landing back at Disneyland when they get back from space.

However I also wish they could move Star Tours over to the new land, if just to make room for something new. Tomorrowland is such a hard and expensive land to keep up with and it needs some TLC.

Forgive me for asking, but where will Star Wars Land be located? Tom Sawyer Island?

It's being built behind the berm. They have shortened Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America slightly and rerouted the train. That is the work that has been done over the last year and should be opening in a few months. They did not remove any actual attractions, though the ranch area including the BBQ restaurant were removed and all the animals too. There are tons of videos and images online showing the progress. Freshbaked does weekly reports from the Mickey Parking structure, and Disney has made some great progress in that area. It started as a bunch of backstage buildings being torn down and lots of dirt moving. Now the train is almost ready with themed rock work to block out Star Wars land and buildings have sprouted in the actual land.
