OK so here is the breakdown of my dilemma. I have 2 possible situations for my reservation

1) Free Dining for 8 night at PORS 1704.92

2) AP Rate for 8 nights at CBR 980

My question is will we REALLY spend 724 dollars in food??

Does anyone have a good caluclator for estimating food consumption? It is just DH and I. We will have a rental car so I'll pick up beverages and snacks at walmart (with hubby's discount).

I am torn between which one to do. I mean I have done the dining plan and love not having to budget out food money but I'm not sure if we paid out of pocket if we would rack up 724 dollars in food!!

Please let me know your suggestions

$724 for 8 days comes to $90.00 per day.

It depends on if you like eating big meals every day.
We had the free dinning last time we went and it was great not having to pay for meals but after a while I got tired of eating big meals everyday. You tend to eat more even if you're not that hungry because you're getting an appetizer, entree and dessert.

This year we're going before the free dinning is offered so we're not adding the dinning package.

It will be nice to eat at Pecos Bill's for dinner one night if we want instead of always going to a sit down restaurant.

Why don't you go to allearsnet and check out their menus? It'll give you the prices, so you'll be able to make a better decision on what you might order and the cost of those items.

Your numbers look a little odd to me. Did the $1704.92 also include park tickets? Also are these different types of rooms at each resort(views, king bed etc...). Another thing to consider is which resort you really want to stay at, I love POR and CBR doesn't woork out as well for me.

I know for me I can easily spend $60.00 a day on food for one person and have spent alot more then that if I eat at the signature restaurants. I tend to value the free dining at about a $45-$60 a day savings per person. So when I was able to save $65.00 per day on my AP rate on a solo trip it became cheaper for me to swap to the AP discount.

You'll have to think about where you want to eat and how much you think you'd spend. If you're going to eat snacks in the room, more counter service meals and buffets it's probably cheaper to go with the discount. If you're going to be eating a nice TS service meal each day plus a counter service meal and the snacks I'd stay with the free DDP for 2 people.

The price of the Free Diningdoes include a one day park ticket (as required by the package)

I have not stayed at CBR before but we have a car so that should eliminate the internal bus problem I have heard about.

I'm not exactly sure how we eat.....When we didn't have free dining we did lots of eating in the room, counter services, buffets and an occassional TS.

When we were on the free dining plan we eat at a lot of table restaruants....and it was A LOT of food! DH LOVED it but I felt like I was stuffing myself at EVERY meal!

I'll have to look at allearsnet's menues this weekend...I was hoping for a quick and easy answer but it will probably be best to take the time and break it down.

If you plan to do quite a few TS then yes... it could cost that or more... if you will only be doing CS then you may be fine w/o getting dining

if you are doing free dining be sure you ask for 1 day no park hopper tickets... that will change your price

When I did 8 nights at Port Orleans Riverside i got 1449.98 with 1 day non hoppers for 2 adults

Why not add the dining plan, it's less than $80 per night. Since you are staying 7 nights/8 days you would only pay $560 or less (not sure what the actual cost is but I know it is under $40/person). You would still be paying less than the free dining offer. Plus you still get the freedom and flexibility of the dining plan and save roughly $165. Good luck.

OK so a little clairification.

We have king rooms budgeted becuase it is our actual honeymoon.

Can you add free dining to an AP rate?? I was under the impression that you could not do that......

That's why it looked a little odd to me. The $1704 number looks close to right if they added on the 7 day passes. I had CSR for 10 nights with 1 1-day pass for $1701 prior to swapping to the AP rate. My AP rate is $1057.5 after taxes or $105.75 per night. 8 nights at that rate would be $846.00. But both of my rates were for a standard room.

Nikki, I'm not trying to attack you on this so please don't take the above personally. I'm just trying to figure out the rates. I like to price out different vacation options and do the number crunching...I guess I'm weird that way.

That's probably the differences in the numbers.

You can't add the free DDP or even the paid DDP to a AP discounted room. Disney considered the dining plan a discount and you can only have one discount per reservation.

Sounds good Bill! and don't worry I don't feel attacked I just wanted to let all of you WONDERFUL number crunchers out there know that this isn't a standard room but a King! I know that makes a difference in the final number!

Thank for all of your help and suggestions!

I just wanted to add, b/c I saw your signature, that the actual quote is, "Everybody neat & pretty? Then on with the show!"

Cheers!

This is how we do it:

Breakfast $15 if we do CS only

Lunch $20 if we do CS only

Snacks per day $20

Dinner at a TS $70

Total per day for 2 people $125

$125 x 8 days = $920

I know others are crunching the numbers for you, but I think of it this way. The difference is $724. You have to subtract about $146 for the value of the included one-day tickets. So, now you're at approx. $578 for the 8 days. For that $578, you get 8 CS meals. For two, we find CS meals generally run $20 - $25. At $20 per day, that's $160 in value. 1TS meals generally run not less than $60 per day for two. That's $480. Snacks are probably $8 per day. If you use all the snack credits, that's $64.

So, to eat one nice TS per day and essentially not have to spend anything for food, call the price $480 + $160 + $64 or $704. There is also good value, it seems to me, if you go to 2TS restaurants. If you like lobster, Narcoosee's is fun. The lobsters there are $54 each, which is seriously overpriced, but so be it. If you add appetizer and dessert and tax and tip, a meal for two at Narcoosees with two lobsters is perhaps $180. So, if you did that or something similar for four nights, that would be $720 right there, without counting any CS and snack credits.

Upshot, I think the DDP with "free" dining makes more sense than the AP room discount.

Just my calculations . . . Have fun making your decision!

I finally figured it out! You have the trip insurance too. That brings it up to the $1704. Now I can sleep tonight. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

One other thing the CBR $980 doesn't include travel insurance. So you should subtract the $140.00 for the tickets and $119.00 for the travel insurance from the $1704. So really when comparing just room rates you only have a $465 dollar savings by going with the AP rate. So can you eat for 8 days on $465 or $58.12 per day for the 2 of you? One TS meal will eat that $58.00 up really easy even at the buffets.

1704
- 140 (ticket)
- 119 (insurance)
-----------------------
1445 (price of the room and food at POR)

1445
- 980 (price of AP room at CBR)
-------------------------
$465 (amount you have for food)

You have better minds than mine working on this, so I have no opinion, I just wanted to say that that is an absolutely beautiful wedding picture!

I have a spreadsheet that can help you figure it out. All you need to do is go to allearsnet and look at the menu for where you want to eat and plug those numbers in. It's set up to figure out tax and tip as well. I have it for all meals (including snack) It will also help you figure out what meals you should pay out of pocket if you have the dining plan

Send me an email at hddanis@msn.com and I'll be happy to send it to you. I

Since you are an AP holder, do you have the DDE card? If you did it would subtract 20% frrom your TS. It also is good for alchoholic beverages and free valet parking at the resorts at which you are dining.:thumbsup2

I am doing a similar number crunch myself, trying to decide between the DDP and the AP rates. My difference is I need to renew my pass soon, so the one day ticket will help pay for my new AP.

Bill- I totally forgot about the Trip insurance until you mentioned it!

pospisil- thanks for the comment on the pic!

mrzrich- I do have the DDE.......I think it would save us some money especially becuase if we do the AP rate any of our possible TS meals would be at lunch.

Thank you all for your help! I haven't decided what I want to do yet but need to figure out something soon!! My due date for money is July15th!!!

I'd pick the AP rate.

After looking at the prices online & making a chart on Excel I expect DM & I will spend about $500 (with DDE discounts) in food over 8 days, all TS.
So I bet you can do it for less than that if you only plan 1 TS a day. We never order appy or desserts though, so if you plan to do that then maybe free dining is better.

Ok so we have decided to go with the AP rate and just budget our food. We are fine with doing that!

The hubby and I talked it over and decided that saving the 740some dollars was better up front and we would just watch out spending.

We have had the DDP before and it is just SOOO much food! I'm normally good with an app and dessert or JUST an entree.

So here goes wish us luck!
